Gonzales enters his first year as Arizona's Special Teams Coordinator and Linebackers Coach. He spent most of his career at New Mexico where he was a punter and safety from 1994 -1998. Gonzales stayed at UNM for 9 years after graduating working his way up to coaching safeties and special teams. He spent 5 years at San Diego State as the Safeties Coach before becoming the Defensive Coordinator for the Scum in 2018 and 2019. Gonzales spent the last 4 years as the head coach at UNM.
