787 Total Yards - A new (ANU) Arizona record!!!

Pretty impressive. 6 of the 10 times we've gone over 600 yards in total offense RichRod has been the coach.

787 total yards is a new Arizona record, beating 769 in 1969.

I wasn't overly impressed with our defense, but at the end of the day they gave up 13 total points.

Would love more pressure on the qb, but who wouldn't.

Congrats Cats and congrats Anu!!

434 yards passing and 353 yards rushing. Fantastic balance.

just like last year. they gave up some big plays to unlv..but still limited it to 13 points.

that's just how our offense will be. we'll never be a michigan state or a team like that that holds people to 230 yards a game. we'll give up 400 yards regularly, but we get stops when it counts.

Although Jacksonville State couldn't run the ball, MSU still gave up 222 yds through the air, only 30-ish less than we did to UNLV. Only difference is that we gave up 119 yds rushing to 25. And of course we don't keep the ball for 40 minutes, plus we scored more points, plus we were facing a better opponent. Basically what I'm saying is that, while I agree, when one team is blowing out another team, the other team always gets lots of garbage yards, no matter who they're up against. Since that team's getting dominated, they're throwing more, but since they're bad, they usually can't sustain drives, and sporadic, incompletion-littered drives don't usually result in points. Only yards.

Anu is the name of the ancient Sumerian sky god.

Anu exceeded my expectations. The kid is a natural at QB. He clearly has ice in his veins. He avoids defenders so well it's like he's in slow motion. If the officials called roughing the passer like they did on unlv's touchdown, he would have picked up 4 of those calls as well.

The great ones make it look easy. That was what he did last night. He made it look ridiculously easy, and it was only his first game.

Also, our receivers are going to run secondaries ragged this year, which will open up huge gains for our backs. Mix in a veteran offensive line and this QB? I think this will be a very entertaining year, people!! Some concerns with the d, but field goals cannot beat this team. Opposing teams will have to gets td's and lots of them.

Go Cats!!

I am optimistic, great game for Anu and a good game to build on. Granted it was against lesser competition but I still like what I saw from him. WTG GATOS.

Guys were running open all night long. Like DC said early in the preseason, teamms just can't cover everyone. Our slot guys abused there safeties and linebackers trying to cover. Just need Anu to find them.

Was a fun game to watch last night. Anu had some poise for sure, with the obligatory 'we were playing UNLV though'. I really like what I saw. The receivers were studly and the RB's were solid and running hard. We're lucky to have RR leading this program!

Props to the O Line too. Anu was better than expected, but their experience gave him the extra time needed.

Things I learned (besides how to make a .gif).

Our QB and receivers are going to be really, really good this year.

If you want to drop back in coverage we will run the ball down your throats.

and Willy from Philly is going to be a playmaker. He can hit and he can cover.

Love it.

First time in a long time when I am going to carve out some time to rewatch a game.

Bravo bravo ANG. Any chance you can either 1) teach us easily or 2) make a GIF from that huge hit early in the game? I think that was Parks as well.

Same score as last year with 300 more yards. Inefficient!

Best hit on the highlight film, Tevis and McCall bringing it. I'll keep an eye open for Park's hit.

Had more to do with turn overs last year.

We left some on the table too. That's a really weird thing to say with 58 points and almost 800 yards.

Not too many on this board saw the top 2 games on offense for the cats. Yes I was at that New Mexico game in 1969 with Bill Demory at QB

Nice addition to the PAC 12 60 min replay this year, on some of the big plays they have it sinked with player/coach commentary from the press conference.

Great gifs, ANG!

With a healthy Solomon all season long, we win 10 games. Mark it down.

And teams better not think they can beat Arizona sending the ball down Scooby's or Parks' lanes. Ain't happenin'...

From the ESPN blog:
Arizona at UT-San Antonio

Arizona's 787 yards of offense against UNLV was the most in the country in Week 1 and would have been a school record at every Pac-12 school except USC. The Trojans had 978 yards of offense against Pomona in 1925. Only three other schools eclipsed the 700-yard mark last week: Nebraska (784), Western Kentucky (708) and USC (701).

How's this for balance? The Wildcats currently rank No. 9 in the country in rushing (353 yards) and No. 7 in passing (434).

Anu Solomon was one of 12 quarterbacks that started in Week 1 having never appeared in a game before. Among those players, he was the only one that threw a touchdown (four, actually) without throwing an interception.
