Ok. Fine. Utah is a mighty basketball school. How can Arizona possibly compete with them? I mean, they went to the Final Four the same number of times Arizona has. And have the same number of titles. And have a larger arena.
I can't think of a single reason why anyone, anywhere, would ever even think to choose a school over mighty Utah. Rumor has it that the players of the Utah Jazz are currently trying to figure out ways around their ineligibility just to play for the mighty, powerful, Utes.

Salty moving the goal posts again, I never said Arizona wouldn't be able to compete with Utah.
All I said was you were full of it talking about Utah when you clearly had no idea what you were talking about.

That's the coach. Not the program.
A football or basketball school transcends one coach. For example, Boise State is a "football" school because their success has been sustained over a relatively long period of time regardless of who was coach. Same could be said for Louisville basketball.
Labeling every school out there as a football or basketball school is a waste of time. There are probably 10 programs in the country that are legitimately basketball only programs. Kansas, Duke, Kentucky, and North Carolina come to mind. As well as programs which don't have football programs, and so are basketball schools by default, like Villanova, Xavier, and Gonzaga. Most other schools typically spend the most energy and money on their football programs because football is far more lucrative and popular.
Getting upset that basketball isn't as popular as football is ridiculous. I see no reason as to why a school can't have both a successful basketball and football team. It doesn't have to be one or the other. Hell, Arizona had very good football and basketball teams this very year!
Most schools gravitate towards one major sport over the other, largely on the basis of historical success and tradition, but often other factors only somewhat related to that, and not necessarily having met a minimum threshold of success either, like Final Fours or Bowl games.
It's not pointless, it's observational. There are 351 Division I Basketball programs, and 244 Football programs at the FBS or FCS level. No one is saying it HAS to be "one or the other"; Being slanted towards one sport doesn't always or necessarily preclude being successful in the other, but it goes directly to knowing the expectations for each program, and the relative pressure that flows from it. Relying only on recent events is not the most accurate indicator for that either, which is why you are all wet on Utah.
So, like I said before, stop speaking in absolutes, especially when there's a good chance others on the board will a.) know more than you about certain topics, and b.) will likely respond. Learn "IMO".
If you believe him, several classes in fact. That doesn't wholly explain his myopia though.Harvey Specter wrote:Because judging from his posts he does not know shit about much of anything... Mostly agree with that, although it isn't too hard to label the Texas and Miss St hires homeruns, or to raise questions about the St. John's or DePaul hires.
But this bit about Bobby Hurley cracks me up:
ASU is a big-time coaching job? Since when? He also said fans will have to wait ... what fans? The one's who donated a can of beans for a free ticket? But is he ready for a big-time coaching job?

Man I would LOVE to see Archie at FL schooling the SEC. It would even better if we played them regularly. I know the brothers don't want to play each other but if they are both top 15 programs then it would only help both of them with tourney seeding.

Well, it had to happen sooner or later. Multiple NBA teams have tried to lure BD, and this is arguably the best opportunity he's had. Even if he fails, he'll be young enough to come back to succeed K at Duke or Roy at UNC or Izzo at MSU. Donovan and Stevens will eventually coach college teams again. You can count on it.

Just reading where the last 2 under age 50 coaches to take multiple teams to the Final Four are:Beachcat97 wrote: Donovan and Stevens will eventually coach college teams again. You can count on it.
Brad Stevens and Billy Donovan.
Forgot who wrote it, but he was lamenting the poor condition of the future of the college game. Average age of the Final Four coaches this year was 63.
