I'm going to start a petition to turn off the soundtrack in supermarkets. What purpose does it serve? Other than to lodge into your head the worst adult light pop song from the 1980s. It's the first thing playing in your brain as soon as you wake up for the next three weeks. If not for supermarket soundtracks, you'd never encounter that music ever again.

I've pretty much banned Nutella from our house after reading and verifying that canned Betty Crocker Cake Frosting is more nutritious that Nutella.

We use it occasionally as a chocolate sauce short cut, but that's about it.

The pre-ticket sales are beyond ridiculous, every retailer from J.C. Penney to Wal Mart has their own merchandising deal cut, and Disney has already anointed the first trailer as one of its "classic Disney moments" in its new World of Color show before it tears up Disneyland to shoehorn a 16-acre Star Wars land.

Not to mention all the clucking about the white genocide Tweet.

Not joking or lying: As anyone who has lived in Italy can confirm, the purpose of Nutella is to provide essential nutrition. Italians believe that sugar is the healthiest food, and that high concentrations of sugar should be the focus of breakfast, la prima collazione, the most important meal of the day. They've seen the science that contradicts this notion, and they believe that science in an abstract way, but they can't internalize it in the same way we can't internalize that you don't catch a cold from being cold (which Italians also believe, and to the point they fear and avoid fresh air). Sugar packaging in Italy still presents the product as a health food.

As though cookies and pastries didn't provide enough sugar at breakfast, Italians spread gobs of Nutella on those cookies and pastries. And because they regard it as necessary for their health, they do so with about as much enjoyment as we approach whole grains or spinach. It's kind of weird to see people eat dessert with a stoic look on their faces, and an air of virtuous meeting of one's responsibilities.

Cookies and pastries are marketed as breakfast foods. TV commercials show mothers serving them to their families in sunlit rooms around the table, with children dutifully doing their best to eat them before starting their big day. Similarly, a cappuccino would never be consumed after 11 AM. Italians are baffled by north Americans who want to eat cake and drink a cappucccino after dinner.

When Nutella was introduced to the U.S., it blew people's minds. Since it appeared in the peanut butter aisle, it gave consumers license to regard Nutella as a food, as in Italy.

That was Ferrero Rocher's explicit strategy over which it has been sued and forced to 'mend its ways' (oh, sure).

It is close to 60% sugar and the number two ingredient is Palm Oil. The deforestation much of Malaysia and Indonesia for Palm Oil plantations is destroying the habitat of orang-utans and Sumatran Tigers, to say nothing of the livelihoods of the local human population .

What is a four lane highway? I hear it stated both ways - the four lanes counting two directions going in opposite ways, or conversely, since the opposite direction doesn't mean much to a driver, four lanes meaning the four you have going in your direction.

I've always known a four lane highway to be a road with two lanes going one direction, two lanes going the other, a median, and usually no stop lights.

1) To give the impression that technology as related to emergency services is a half-century behind the times;
