Puerto Vallarta

Post by CalStateTempe »

Been a blast. Met TONS of UofA folks due to a wedding going on this weekend.

But...

Now a Category 4 hurricane due to hit tomorrow.

For those who have been through hurricanes, how screwed am I? Should I expect flights to be grounded on Sat?

Any advice...

Normally weather doesn't bother me, but this one really has me scared. We are at a beach resort too, but fortunately on the 7th floor. I just hope the Marina Vallarta doesn't flood too bad.

Stay away from the windows. And make sure you know where the nearest US consulate is in case you need help leaving the area after the storm.

I fucking love Vallarta. Hoping it spares the people and the town.

My First time here. We've had a blast at the CasaMagna and exploring the downtown. Would come back in a heartbeat. Part of the trip was looking at condos with my in-laws as they are looking for a place to spend maybe 4-6 months out of the year.

Thanks for the advice. We changed our flight and lodging till sunday so I'm hoping no mudslides and the grid going down. If those don't happen, then I'm sure the airport will be open by then.

Small world. We aren't here for the wedding, but again, my wife is always amazed how Arizona people are friendly with the "Bear Down's"
Been a blast and a bit of unexpected excitement at the tail end here.

A small portion of the wedding group last night. Everyone was loaded on buses and sent 190 miles east to Guadalajara. Luckily the wedding was 2 days ago

Update 7 hours ago said they were there in Guad camping out in a ballroom

Is that Devin Supertramp's brother? Hope everyone is safe. I have a friend's mother who has lived in Puerta Vallarta for years and they are absolutely freaking out.

Marriott got us got a room in Guad, but now they are saying we are going to get "Trish, as a category 3, tonight/tomorrow.

Airport's closed, so we could be hunkered down for a while. We have food and water for 72 hours.

Marriott went above and beyond with their evacuation and contingency plan and we are completely impressed with how they handled this thing on such short notice.

Bear Down.

It looks like PV may dodge the worst of it. We will have to watch the path that it takes. 175 mph winds when it hits land fall & rain through Sunday.

There is a really good periscope from the weather channel that is really breaking everything down.

Marriott got rooms all over Gaud.

They hired 5 huge tour buses. Got us all together and sent olds and kids on buses 1 and 2, and the wedding party on 3 and 4, and the rest on 5. Lucky for us, I have a 14mo old and two in-laws greater than 65yo so we were on the first bus out. Got in the Guad at 3, into the room by 3:10.

I'm counting my blessings we didn't run into narcotraffickers in the hills and am praying for the individuals whose hotels decided to evacuate at 11am this morning. Feel terrible for the residents of PV who couldn't get out despite the Government coming on today saying for everyone to get as far from the water as possible at 12pm.

We are hearing those that remained are in a concrete storm shelter in the hills and that the road to Gaud is now gridlocked.

It appears PV made it through ok. Had the storm been only 40 or 50 miles north it would have been really devastating

You back? My friends some how got back Saturday.

Yeah, I switched my departure from GDL>SFO, Sat departure, prior to being evacuated thursday.

GDL only got heavy rains overnight, no wind, and the airport was open. Got back to SFO Sat night.

Sunday, wife and I are already planning our next trip to PV.
Awesome awesome town.

Glad to hear your friends got back safe.

Yeah, no, that video is not Gaud.

Thats sad. I wonder if the hotel/site is going to make a contingency for them, if they even want it.
