For me, it's all artificial and created for entertainment. James Naismith didn't come down from the mount with rules chiseled on a tablet. Why have 1 and 1 after 7 and 2 shots after 10? Why alternating possession instead of a jump?

Why advance the ball? It's more exciting. If a team is within 3 points after 39 minutes plus, let's see the most fun end. Buzzer beaters are fun.

I want them to keep the shot clock at 35 even though taking it to 30 GREATLY benefits Sean Miller's teams. I agree with the coaches who say it will not improve offense; more early chucking, more hero ball with players whose offensive games arent even close to being developed, more zone, bleh. They need to fix the charging/blocking. This year was a step in the right direction but it still needs work. I do like them moving the restricted area out like they did in the NIT(?).

All I know is that the NBA moves much faster than college ball and my biggest gripe with CBB is that it feels so slow.

At the end of the day you have to remember these are still amateurs. Watch a CBB game and then go down to your local high school and try to watch, or even watch an Oak Hill or Findlay prep on TV, still ugly and sluggish by comparison. You got to appreciate the amateurism, David vs Goliath matchups, rawness, and competition of CBB.

The NBA is just a big soap opera/movie. It can be very entertaining, but I see the NBA as an ensemble of A-list movie stars given a really crappy script and making a summer blockbuster. I see CBB as C-list and B-list actors given an unbelievable script. I can truly only stomach the NBA for the first few weeks to see how my team is shaping up and how the rookies do, and then again in the playoffs (as long as it is an interesting series or will be close).

Yep! I also like the reduced timeouts although CSM may really struggle with it.

Brought my wife to A game this year and even she said something about all of the stoppages. It was the cal game and I think the refs went to the scorers table three times that game to review fouls, making it even worse

Well, Pac-12 refs' runs to the scorers table grind an already slowing game to a halt.

If the conference was better about apportioning its new revenue streams, it would just have a replay guy courtside during games who would act as a fourth official and arbitrate the 50/50 calls. But that's an utter pipe dream with this conference.

With potentially more fouls called, it pays to have a team with depth (and players who attack the rim rather than settling for jumpers).

UCLA outpaced Wake Forest in practically every statistical category except free throws.

Scoring is up. Teams playing faster AND more efficient. Fouls up a smidge, but foul shots per possession are down.

That's a big win, so far, for rule changes. Fear was foul-fests and teams jacking up bad shots with the loss of five seconds. Turns out, coaches and players can adapt.

The NCAA released an updated look this week at scoring numbers that continue to support the notion that rules changes are speeding up the game. Overall, scoring is up 5.5 points compared with mid-February last season, while fouls and free throws attempted are both up 1.1, and field goal percentage is up 0.56.

Miller said he felt the shot clock change from 35 to 30 seconds has been particularly significant.

“I don’t know if any one of us could have predicted that it would have the scoring increase like it has,” Miller said.
