Take the Walton quiz

Post by gumby »

Bill Walton covered a lot of topics tonight, though the pesky game would sometimes interrupt. Let's see how closely you listened.

1. How much money did President Jefferson allot for the Lews and Clark Expedition?
2. What is the longest river in North America?
3. What are the three largest river systems in the world?
4. What two cities are equidistant to Columbia, Mo.?
5. Name four players on the 1972 Milwaukee Bucks.
6. Only school in the UC system on semesters (rather than quarters)?
7. True or False. We're very fortunate to have Larry Scott as commissioner.
8. Who is the premier health care provider in Arizona?
9. What college did Dave Cowens attend?
10. What is the subject of the Mark Twain quote he recited?
11. Where is the Mark Twain house?
12. What highway do you take from Columbia to Jefferson City?
13. Who won the Tour De Tucson?
14. Name the broadcasters who are Mizzou alums.
15. What pop singer went to Mizzou?
16. What is George Gervin's hometown?
17. Where are the headwaters of the Missouri River.
18. How many Chinese students attend Pac-12 schools?
19. How many states border Missouri, according to Walton?
20. How many reps of 185 pounds were Korcheck and Anderson able to do?

Bonus question: Within 5 minutes, how much game time elapsed before Elliott Pitts was mentioned?

I remember all of those covered but half-tuned most of them out and was a poor pupil. But I think this is absolutely my favorite game and will take notes next time and win.

4. What two cities are equidistant to Columbia, Mo.? Kansas City and St. Louis
12. What highway do you take from Columbia to Jefferson City? 55, the most historic highway in America
13. Who won the Tour De Tucson? John Howard, age 68

He said a different highway. Correct on the other two.

Rewatching this on DVR right now (no cheating--not going back for any answers!), here's what I retained:

1. How much money did President Jefferson allot for the Lews and Clark Expedition?
$2500.

5. Name four players on the 1972 Milwaukee Bucks.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Junior Bridgeman, Lucius Allen and Oscar Robertson.

7. True or False. We're very fortunate to have Larry Scott as commissioner.
True. Bonus point if you can name what Pac-12 athletic director he said "we love."

10. What is the subject of the Mark Twain quote he recited?
Kindness is the language that can be heard by the deaf and seen by the blind. Or words to that effect.

11. Where is the Mark Twain house?
Hartford, Conn.

12. What highway do you take from Columbia to Jefferson City?
The U.S. 50, which is also the Loneliest Road in America. Bonus point if you heard what state and what state route number.

16. What is George Gervin's hometown?
Detroit.

Never heard Pitts mentioned on the broadcast.

Junior Bridgeman was still at Louisville. Other three are correct. Bridgeman was one of the players the Lakers traded to get Kareem.

Not the right highway. Pitts is mentioned.

Rest are correct.
Right where I want to be.

C. Blinding flashes of brilliance whose very essence is a reminder of the beauty of the human spirit.

Technically the latter would actually be the driver of the former.

Well, Bill is a pretty proud UCLA alumn, so I can understand why he loves Pat Haden.

Precisely. Isn't DVR great? Cowens is a Seminole. Jim Lehrer and John Anderson are Mizzou alums. Bobby Dandridge is the fourth Milwaukee Buck he mentioned.

Doing a little research on Kareem, I see he demanded a trade to LA or NYC, because they were better fits for his religion. So Laker fans can thank Islam for five of its titles.

He is to me. I enjoy what I like, and tune out the rest. I remember all of those comments, but many of the answers escape me because I consider him Mr. Hyperbole and would not trust his answers even if I had previously thought they were true. Once he said it, I would have to do a double check.
