Saw this on twitter.
We're any of you there? Exactly how loud was it that day? Also who were Lute's assistants then? Prob partly due to the graininess of the telecast but don't recognize them.

Re: Last time Hurley in Mckale
When I opened this thread, I thought it would be a bold prediction about how this was going to be Hurley's last trip to McKale.
Re: Last time Hurley in Mckale
That was my first game but I was like 6 years old. My Dad had seats 2 rows from the top. Got stopped by a man on Campbell and got offered $200 for the tickets and he told him no way! The only thing I remember was how loud it was. Everyone around us was so loud I started crying so my Dad sat me down on the stairs. He still says that was the best game he's ever been to

before my time too -- i was looking for KO in the coaches' huddle, but i guess he was gone by then.
someone help me out here, but i believe that's roz, jessie evans, tony mcandrews, and steve condon (head trainer) with Lute... no idea who the GAC is. harvey mason (trey's dad), maybe?

Totally forgot Keith Jackson used to do basketball. Whoa Nellie! (yes I know he never said that)

Two observations:
This was before Vitale became "Dukie V", and was still more about the game than his personality
This was when basketball players still wore shorts instead of cullotes...

I was at this game....just finishing college and still young.....was a wild one and recall not sitting much and leaving without a voice box......also remember how impressed I was at the older fans energy and enthusiasm level .
Awesome game! One of my favorite memories of my UA days!

December 2004
Already fed up with Duke's resistance at scheduling games with Arizona, then-coach Lute Olson said he received a call from CBS saying Duke agreed to face the Wildcats in East Rutherford, N.J. "I said, 'You know what? We'll play the neutral-site game in Phoenix or the Pond (of Anaheim, Calif.),'" Olson said. "'But other than that, you just call Duke up and tell them to go fly a kite.' "

Re: Last time Hurley in Mckale
I was there. Student. We had some fun getting onto Hurley for his, ummm, body control during the 1990 final. Ex Lax may have been part of the chants. Sean Rooks was unstoppable late. Just perfect footwork. Matt Muehelbach's defense actually turned the game late...he forced an errant pass and pestered the ball. The crowd was absolutely insane...I have been to somewhere over 100 games in McKale, and that was in the top 2 or 3 crowd wise. That was a McKale win...Duke looked to have the game in control late, but MM forced a turnover, and then every time we needed a score, Wookie went to the left block and was automatic. It was an incredibly high level game from tip to buzzer.
I actually never had my stub torn for that game...my roommate and I went to McKale to see if we could meet Dickie V., who at that time was a great national cheerleader for our program. The load in ramp to McKale was open so we walked down it, sat in some seats on the floor, and watched the set up. Eventually Vitale came out, and we went to talk with him. Slowly, people started trickling in and there was a crowd around him. We got our time and autographs (mine on the game program, my roommates on a "Dickie V Says Arizona is #1, Baby" t-shirt...Vitale signed the cartoon Dickie V on the shirt on his bald head), and Keith Jackson looked slightly amused, slightly annoyed. Eventually, we went to our seats...but never went through a ticket taker.
The point giveaway back then was a personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut for 100+ points. The 2OT allowed the game to go over. When my roommate and I went after the game, the Pizza Hut by our place tried to claim it didn't count because it wasn't regulation. We threw a shit fit, and eventually got their manager to call whomever they call in those situations. They finally gave in, and wrote in ball point pen "Void from Pizza Hut" on our ticket stub to make sure we didn't bankrupt them with free pizzas. I still have the ticket...with that stupid writing.
