I haven't seen 97 post much over at Scout either. Maybe there isn't much to say, or maybe he's busy with his own life.
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

That is really wrong. That's also not the sort of allegation you toss out as a casual fan. On the whole, I would advise ceasing to beat the drum about Rabb and JJ. It's not a good look for you.Beachcat97 wrote:He used to be the most in-the-know insider, but it got to be less so recently.KaibabKat wrote:That is not the reason he doesn't come around very often anymore.

Re: let's talk '17
Left and right, guys are declaring their "favorites," trimming their "lists," etc. So '17 is very much upon us. Most likely, we're not "leading" or likely to get commitments from some of these top 20-ish guys. Miller will get a few, but they probably won't be AG or SJ level talent. We'll see.Jefe wrote:Our roster is set and its too soon for '17Beachcat97 wrote:He used to be the most in-the-know insider, but it got to be less so recently.
And as for 97, I wish him well and pray he's healthy. Lots in life more important than hoops. Or maybe he just feels the discourse level here has sunken so low that he's lost interest.

Re: let's talk '17
Bashing 97 after we didn't land Rabb or JJ is stupid BC. 97 gave us great info that we'd be right in the mix up until the end for both of those guys, and we were. These are teenagers getting pulled in a hundred directions...knowing early on that AZ is going to be there right until the final decision is made, with a damn good chance, is good enough info for me. 97 isn't a fucking oracle. He never said they were locks to us.

So why isn't 97 posting as often as normal?? Why all the secrecy and vague implications? Is this an Ace related thing?
I always valued his info even if it was vague and repetitive and some of his takes (PJC, York, etc) were kind of "dig your heels in" even when they played well.

Nope. No. He chose us first because we were his top school, so you can't really say they beat us, especially when we ended up with a better player in LM. So we beat them for his services even though he'll suit up for them this year?
That is some impressive logic, even for you.

I don't really get how we didn't lose a recruit to UCLA when he committed here, decommitted, and wound up going to UCLA. I am a huge fan of Lauri's, but hey, we lost Leaf.Beachcat97 wrote:No. He chose us first because we were his top school, so you can't really say they beat us, especially when we ended up with a better player in LM. BC must consider himself married to his college sweetheart even though they broke up and she married some other dude.
"Look, I didn't lose her to that guy . . . we just consciously uncoupled . . . but I still won in the end. See?"

Jaylen Hands
Jalen Hill
TJ Leaf
Ike Anigbogu
All Compton Magic guys, but yeah...
Trevon Duval likely added to this list soon, but that's an UnderArmour thing.
Now that ASU is the only west coast Adidas school I'm sure they'll land a guy over us that they absolutely shouldn't due to shoe politics in the near future.

The Leaf/Lauri thing is why it's silly to be freaking out about '17 recruiting early. Here's the timeline:Chicat wrote:BC must consider himself married to his college sweetheart even though they broke up and she married some other dude.
"Look, I didn't lose her to that guy . . . we just consciously uncoupled . . . but I still won in the end. See?"
Leaf commits to AZ. We are super happy. We start threads about him being a stud.
Leaf decommits. We are devastated. We lose our respective minds.
Lauri commits. We don't really know him, so we kind of note it and move on.
Lauri starts displaying the talent Miller saw. We get really happy and start threads. Certain fans recast TJ decommitting as a happy thing where we moved onto something better.
Recruiting is a volatile world. Miller doesn't consistently land top 5 classes by accident. We need to let the man work.

I stand corrected. UCLA isn't just beating us recruiting-wise. They own us and it isn't close. It's surpsing how few players prefer AZ to UCLA.

Re: let's talk '17
I really don't get this "not getting his top target" bullshit...because that really is what it is...
Should Miller only make offers to 30-80 level players he knows he has? Would that make someone happy because he is then pulling in his top target?
The absurdity of this is really staggering...he made a run at the best player or top 5 player the last couple of years, and he wound up in the final race but didn't win it. So he is supposed to pull the top player in the country any time we are among the final 5? What about the teams that didn't get Josh Jackson and weren't even among his final schools? Did they fail even worse? Or do they get some weird pass from this line of thinking because they weren't even in the mix?
One school got JJ. Others didn't. Some big time names. Are they failures, or is this insane line of thinking only applicable to our head coach? We have a roster full of McD's AAs, top 5 national classes, and I am supposed to think lesser of the coach because he didn't get his top target along with about 100 other coaches?
Maybe I am not even expressing this right, because the absurdity of the entire concept is one I cannot even properly put into words. You are a failure for being successful, and successful if you don't even play, and despite the program having top 5 classes year in and year out, they are failures because the coach who did that didn't get the #1 overall player that also didn't go to 99% of the other schools, including 80% of the schools in the top 5?
It is just, absolutely the worst thing about today's college hoops fan and this masturbatory obsession with recruiting...

5-star guard Lonnie Walker has cut his list to 5 schools. Villanova, Syracuse, Kentucky, Arizona and Miami (FL) remain in contention for Lonnie Walker per the Reading Eagle.
Walker has previously said he plans to make decision in the early signing period in November. The Reading (Pa.) product had a productive summer playing for Team Final (Pa.) on the Nike EYBL circuit which led to increased interest from the traditional powers in college basketball.
Now we wait for Walker’s official visit schedule, which should begin sometime in September. Villanova’s annual Hoops Mania event will likely be on Friday October 28, so that’s a good bet for when we might see him visit.
