McCall is a 6'2", 196, redshirt Junior safety from Tampa, FL. You probably still think of him as a cornerback since McCall has played there the last 2 years with 17 starts, but he was moved over to safety this spring. He had 49 tackles as a Freshman and 28 last year. Although his tackle number dropped McCall did lead the team in pass breakups last year with 5 and had his first career interception at the New Mexico Bowl.

Not sure if McCall will be competing for time at free safety or nickel. Shoot, I'm not even sure what the new safety spots are going to be called.

29 is the school record for tackles for loss in a season shared by Scooby Wright (2014) and Tom Nelson (1968).

Drake "catinfl" Horner with an interview with Jarvis McCall for SBN on his switch from corner to safety.
In addition to learning a new position, McCall has also had to learn the ways of the new defensive coaching staff.

"They put less responsibility and let us not think about things as much and just go out there and make plays," he said of the major difference in coaching philosophy this year. "They tell us ‘if you do your job and the person next to you does their job, then everything should go as planned’."
