4 Jamardre Cobb

Post by ANGCatFan »

edited from day 30 which was Cobb's original number this year.

Cobb is a 6'0", 262, redshirt Sophomore fullback from Los Angeles, CA. He played as a full back/h-back last year and was primarily used for an extra blocker. Cobb didn't have any carries last year, but did have 2 receptions - 1 for a TD and 1 for an 8 yard loss. Cobb moved back to linebacker in the spring and is by far the heaviest guy at his position if the team weights are accurate. Will this be the year the former 4 star recruit makes an impact at linebacker? I hope so because we need him. I expect him to be battling for playing time at inside linebacker.

Since my original post Cobb has moved back to fullback. This is for 2 reasons. He wasn't going to make the 2 deep at linebacker and he is a really good full back. Cobb is 3rd on the depth chart at tight end, but he will be primarily used as an H-back or fullback. He should see a lot of action as a blocking back for short yardage and goal line situations. Cobb can certainly open holes, but I would love to see him with the ball in his hands a couple times this year and he has already proven he can catch a pass.

30.1 yards rushing per game is what the Desert Swarm allowed in 1993 to lead the Nation!

Bump because Cobb changed his number to 4 when he was switched to fullback.

4 is the number of Arizona players in the College Football Hall of Fame - Ricky Hunley, Chuck Cecil, Rob Waldrop and Tedy Bruschi.

Seems to me that this guy needs to end up at DE. Any opinions from someone who knows? He's got the size and should have the mobility if he's played at LB and FB...

Seems he still can't shake coming into camp overweight and possibly out of shape, but you think DE would be natural for him, especially with all the losses on defense.

One thing with Cobb that always concerned me was his testing results were pretty average in high school. 4.72 shuttle time is slow and his vert was small. No add some more fat and I just don't think he is the athlete maybe we all thought he was coming in. Also heard him and Ware also just have not picked up our defenses well.

For Comparison sake look at Scooby Wrights testing results in high school, much stronger in both the shuttle time and Vert. 40 times about the same but for a LB, the shuttle time and vert is more important as it speaks to more of this fast twitch muscles.

I've kind of thought that myself. For all we know the coaches have already tried him there too.

I thought he looked great at FB last year when he was in and IMO he should have been used more. Happy to see him back on the offense. He's a beast
