Re: Cubs
Not really. It would be Cubbish to come within a few outs of advancing only for something flukey to happen.ASUHATER! wrote:Would be very Cub-ish if they were now swept by San Francisco or the Mets.
But I don't see it from this team. If Arrieta can string together a couple of good starts, the rest of the team is just so solid that I can't see them losing a series prior to the World Series.
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

Well it looks like the Cubs will get the Giants in an even year. At least they won't have to face Baumgartner unless it goes 5 games

I really didn't want to play SF.
And it looks like Baumgartner will pitch game 3.
Winning game 1 is really really big for this Cubs team.
Re: Cubs
Yep Ari, must win game 1. That first series, best of 5 is tough. You think the Giants run him out in game 3? I would think at the back end unless they have there backs against the wall (hopefully, sorry CST)

Lol no worries, I LOVE playoff baseball only second to the NCAA tourney.
I thinking bumgarner in game 4 unless the Giants are facing elimination.
Blocked the afternoon at work for Monday, gonna take a nice drive down the road a bit to a stadium by the bay.

Re: Cubs
I have been looking forward to this for a long time. I started following the Cubs when they had Ernie Banks and Ron Santo. The Cubs have three ace pitchers. The fact that Arrieta is their #3 starter speaks volumes. Even though Kyle Hendricks has the best ERA in the majors, he still hasn't been in the majors for long. But an ERA of under 2.00 is special. He is a Greg Maddox type pitcher. The Cubs are solid on defense. Probably the best defensive team in the majors in the infield, not to mention Heyward in right. And Baez, their 5th infielder is probably better than Bryant and Zobrist. Now that they picked up Chapman their bullpen is solid too. Lester, Hendricks, Arrieta, and Lackey is a pretty good starting corp.
I think Baez should play second and move Zobrist to left field. Russell and Baez would be lethal up the middle. I am so impressed with Addison Russell at SS. In only his second season he has 95 RBIs and already one of the best SS in the game. Kris Bryant will probably win the MVP and he is also only in his second season. Hendricks is in his third season. This is probably the best Cubs team in over 100 years.

Re: Cubs
Honestly wish the Giants weren't playing the Cubs in the NLDS.
Certainly want the Giants to win, but if not I'm rooting for the Cubs to go all the way. Chicago will cease to function for a few days if they can bring home a championship, and knowing for experience, it's tons of fun to live in a city when that streak is finally broken. (2010 SF)

Re: Cubs
Trying to coordinate with work and driving and getting to the game/parking/leaving after the game etc...
Does anyone know when the MLB will announce start times for Game Three and Four for the NLDS? I know they'll be competing with game four if necessary for the ALDS, so maybe we'll know after tomorrow evening?
You'd think they'd give more than 48hr notice of a start time.

Have two in the 300 level on the 1st base side on Monday night. Should be fun.

Re: Cubs
It's the way the Cubs are winning. Their last 3 RBIs were by 2 pitchers. Travis Wood's homer was the first for a relief pitcher since 1924. I now think this could be the best Cubs team of all time, and the best team since the 98 Yankees. Of course that doesn't mean they will win. SF has won it's last 9 elimination games. They will have to pull 3 more now. With Chicago that is a very big hole. Arrieta vs Bumgarner ought to be another classic pitching duel.Alieberman wrote:2-0!!!!

Re: Cubs
Well said CITH.
Thanks sf25. I've got two in the 300's 3rd baseline. Will be my first game of the year. Win or Lose, it will be good to be back in ATT park watching a classic pitching duel.

Re: Cubs
I'm so convinced I'm the real Cubs' curse, I turned off the game and went to sleep when the tying run went to the plate. So bummed I won't get to watch the end of Cubs games this post-season.
Re: Cubs
Disappointed that the cubs could not get it done last night but Kershaw was nails. I have been very impressed by Roberts the Dodgers manager. That team has taken on his toughness. He never quits and it looks like he keeps them focused yet loose. He makes a lot of pitching and other baseball moves (maybe he has been criticized with over management?) but they seem to be working.
Cubbies need to get a couple in LA and shut these guys down. Hopefully Arrieta has a gem in this next game.

Re: Cubs
3-2 heading back to Wrigley for the chance to clinch a trip to the World Series.
Now where have I heard that before?.......
Kershaw on the bump for the Dodgers, which should be awful news, but apparently his ERA has gone up over a run and a half the second time facing a team within a short period this year, so that might be a glimmer of hope for the Cubs.
Keep the game close, hopefully chase Kershaw in the 6th, then attack that suspect bullpen and it's on into uncharted waters for the Northsiders...

I have plenty of hope for game 6. Entire Cubs team seems to be swinging the ball better and Hendricks only gave up 1 run last time vs Kershaw.Chicat wrote:3-2 heading back to Wrigley for the chance to clinch a trip to the World Series.

Yes... this is the closest we've been to the World Series since Bartman... but this time we're gonna get there.

What is up with Kershaw? I was expecting him to pitch a great game, but he seems really off. The Cubs hitters are eating him up right now.
Re: Cubs
Toles dropping the routine flyball isn't what Kershaw could control. Bartman must be feeling good right now.Catintheheat wrote:What is up with Kershaw? I was expecting him to pitch a great game, but he seems really off. The Cubs hitters are eating him up right now.

Somewhere I have a postcard with a photo of the 1945 National League Champion Chicago Cubs I inherited from my dad. Looks like they might finally get that pennant again.

Why bring Chapman into the game in the 8th? That makes no sense. He has struggled every time he enters before the 9th. I really think it is a bad move.

The curse started in 1945. I've always thought the curse was that the Cubs would never reach the World Series again as long as they played in Wrigley Field. However Wikipedia says that the curse could also mean the Cubs will never win the World Series. In any case I am happy the Cubs are playing in the World Series and believe this team has a very good chance to win.CalStateTempe wrote:Congrats Cubs fans! Now go win it all!
