It feels like nothing good has happened to Arizona Athletics since that damn bunting fiasco in the World Series.

Grades would be good news, as that would likely only be a suspension through the Fall '16 term. He could be eligible by January.

How would grades even make sense? This issue arose like a month into fall semester.

Re: Allonzo Trier
Trier has had one of the more notorious high school careers ever. He may never have stayed at ANY school longer than than a year starting in fifth grade. The New York Tines published an article about Trier, his mom and his travails focusing on his academics as much as his basketball.
It would make sense that academic problems would show their face--for Trier-- at any public institution during his second year, especially given that the second year was one Trier had never seen himself undergoing as he assumed he'd be in the NBA.
Academics is also an area that the Athletic Department might think they'd be able to "navigate." Of course that depends on the exact problem, the school's integrity, and the like.

"Covered?" Well maybe. However, that's not the word I'd chose.
Still seems possible--academics, that is, especially since it was brought up--and especially since we've been told the AD and Miller feel they can navigate/mitigate/backstory the issue.
Like all of us I've wrestled with this issue; if PEDS were the problem, as in performance PEDS, then I can't see a way forward.
Hence, maybe just maybe it's a university problem, like a serious academic issue.

Re: Allonzo Trier
UNC doesn't have a problem "navigating" their academics for basketball.
Maybe Trier didn't do so hot in some summer school/remediation, and now its coming back to bite him. Just speculation on my part with no context/contacts whatsoever.

Re: Allonzo Trier
I thought it was pretty well accepted that it was a banned substance that he took that came up in a drug test, potentially an internal UA one but seemingly most likely an NCAA one. There is an appeal process and that's likely where we're at. That's what I've been able to piece together thus far.

Have we covered receiving improper gifts/improper amateur contact? Would make sense for a person who may have had one foot at Arizona and the other stepping toward the NBA, or people around him who assumed as much. Something that could be navigated/mitigated, etc. Trier is a big time shoe head. Given some exclusive limited edition Jordans in the summer by somebody who expected him to return the favor and assumed he would be in the league?Beachcat97 wrote:So not PEDs, not grades, not criminal...what does that even leave?

I don't know what Miles said in referring to Trier, but Simon had grade issues while a student. That was released by the school, so therefore Miles sued the school as grades are protected under FERPA.

The Miles Simon reference from ChooChooCat was in relation to his earlier post asking "would we be happy with a half year suspension?"UAEebs86 wrote: I was referring to ChooChooCat's comment on Miles' 96-97 season.
Which is what happened to Miles. That's all that was...no inference they were the same thing.

He went to Mills Mall because he heard there would be a good basketball scrimmage in the parking lot. After witnessing the game, he approached the teams coach and called him a "Chicken Sh*t". The coach ran off crying and later filed a grievance with the NCAA. Nobody knows was to do since the truth hurts.ASUHATER! wrote:so not drugs, not criminal, not academic, not PEDs, not improper benefits...that basically leaves nothing.ChooChooCat wrote:Wow this thread went off the rails. Re: Allonzo Trier
I only see one comment that possibly infers it wasn't a PED?
I see someone misunderstanding ChooChooCat's question about would a half year be good and the subsequent comparison of punishment to Miles Simon. Then the "well, it's not a PED" comment with no follow up or attempt to establish that other than some PGU denial followed by a total thread derailment...
