Cal State Bakersfield predictions
Sh*t kickers by 20!
I'm afraid our team will be Haggard, and CSUB will Buck the odds.

They won the WAC tourney, and have an experienced squad. Better than Chico State, I would imagine.
Quick, name all the teams in the WAC!

Close first half, pull away in the second. Feel like that's going to be a theme this year.
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

Re: Cal State Bakersfield predictions
Didn't one of Miller's first recruits go to CSUB? Forgot his name, local kid, Miller told his mom that he would have a 4 year scholie at Arizona. Tall kid, averaged a double double (rebounds/blocks) but really wasn't UA good. When other recruits came in he left.
Maybe it was CSUSB, one of the CSUs.

Merk, I think you're talking about Daniel and he went to Colorado State. What a mess that was.

Wasn't him, this kid wasn't a problem like Bejerano who wouldn't play defense, although of course that is a CSU also.cats101 wrote:Merk, I think you're talking about Daniel and he went to Colorado State. What a mess that was.

This kid was a Tucson product, and a center.

Ah yes! Thanks Eebs.
Didn't make much of an impact at CSUSB did he?
But playing in the D league? What?

Always thought Shumpert would have been a great 4th or 5th year player.

Not sure about this one. I could see a post-MSU letdown with a young team. We win by 12, but it's less smooth than it should be.

Re: Cal State Bakersfield predictions
With Kobi tweaking his ankle, and Allen his knee, I imagine we will see a few walk-ons getting significant minutes.
Re: Cal State Bakersfield predictions
Hope you're right. CSUB might be a cupcake, but they're the kind of cupcake that could keep it close for a lot of the game, which would suck for Kobi and Kadeem.Merkin wrote:With Kobi tweaking his ankle, and Allen his knee, I imagine we will see a few walk-ons getting significant minutes.

Re: Cal State Bakersfield predictions
Only if we're up big. I don't feel so confident that will be the case. I'm not sure about protecting Kobi or Kadeem. They both played after their injuries against MSU.Merkin wrote:With Kobi tweaking his ankle, and Allen his knee, I imagine we will see a few walk-ons getting significant minutes.

Vegas opened at -18.5
Re: Cal State Bakersfield predictions
They have 2 guys over 6'10" but they didn't play last game or really at all last year. Starters are 6'4", 6'7" & 6'6". 2 guards off the bench, Briggs and Durham, scored 21 and 20 respectively last game
Re: Cal State Bakersfield predictions
I like us much better against tall/slow than the MSU model. I'd rather face their 6'10" guys...I am looking for Markkanen to be straight murder this year on regular 4s, kind of like how AG was so deadly when we could move him around and put him up against slow 4s and go to work, but it wasn't as good when he was limited to just being a 4. Ristic looked lost vs MSU, but I think some of that was Sparty was an awful matchup for him defensively, and without his offensive game working, he was dead weight.
Seems like we got a real burst from the bench vs MSU, but I imagine lineups are still fluid. Interested to see who gets the minutes, not the start. The starting lineup will likely be identical to MSU, but where the minutes go will be more of the story. Comanche and Pinder off the bench vs Ristic will be telling, as will whether we play Lauri and Pinder together with Comanche, and when Kobi gets in.

Re: Cal State Bakersfield predictions
These "weaker" OOC opponents haven't been that bad and are definitely coming into McKale hungry. And hitting some ridiculous shots. We are thin and filled with young guys who havent learned the art of stepping on throats. I like that though. Rather than 2 cookie cutter exhibitions, a tough test away from home against MSU, and a steamroll of a CSU Bakersfield, we have been tested and pushed and even "worried" in everything but the first exhibition.
