The reffing is brutal in this game. The best you can say is that it's equally bad both ways. Touch fould, weird double technicals. No consistency in charge/block calls.

Michigan State has just as big a complaint as we do. Start with a showcase game and crazy reffing. Super.

The call on Rawle driving to the paint was totally lame. Might have changed his (RA's) mindset about going hard to the paint after the call.

Yes but keep in mind this game is being played in Vegas...gotta protect the casinos...keep the over/under legit...

The fouls on Markennen are pure sewer dregs though...

My thought is that if a big hedges, the ball handler should ram into him. Foul on the big even if he's planted and keeps his hips motionless.

It draws a block call every time. That dude from Butler basically just ran face first into Lauri's genitals and got a whistle. I blushed watching that play, it was so forward.

They shot ten free throws in the last two minutes. That is not an exaggeration, that is a fact from ESPN's play by play.

That plus taking out Lauri...I hate people who complain about the refs, but that was 5 on 8.

Beyond that there was simply a different threshold of contact allowed. During one of PJC's drives my wife asked "how come that's not a foul when they do it."

Kobi's floater in the lane towards the end, he got bodied. They would have gotten an 3 point opportunity.

No point going over the missed calls. There were simply too many. Oh well. The great thing about CBB is this doesn't really matter. But this was one of the most one sided officiated games I have ever seen. As opposed to the Elite eight game against ILL, this wasn't the moment getting too big and the refs swallowing their whistles. This was 40 minutes of getting bent over. Quite rare to see something like this.

Just plain terrible tonight. Out of Lauri's 5 fouls...maybe 2-3 of them were actually fouls. Butler kept jumping into people or diving and getting the calls. Im not one to blame the officiating, but they definitely impacted the game tonight. It's a shame cause our guys fought hard.

I don't think Rawle even touched that guy. I think it was a 3 point opportunity, but because the other defender hit him on the release. From the replay, it really didn't look like any contact.

We had our opportunities too, but that was horrible.

Here's how I see it tho. If we are good enough we should be able to overcome the obstacles. We learned that if Lauri fouls out we are in trouble without Trier at crunch time. Chalk it up as a learning experience to the freshman.

The spread was Butler by three right at game time...fast forward to the last 2 minutes...

We are up 4 with 2:18...in the next 120 seconds they shoot 9 free throws we shoot 2...

Now I've seen games where the last 2 minutes was a free throw festival, but that was intentional...these were "make up the spread" calls if I ever saw them...and notice they only went one way...

By the way the foul "disparency" started by calling a charge on Lauri which took him out of the game...oddly enough they difference in total fouls was us by +4...which is friggin stupid because as a rule these guys play without fouling...

This is what drives me nuts about college BB...the refs feel like they need to keep it even...but there are teams out there who do NOT know how to defend without fouling, tell me they should keep those guys even...

I agree it looks like a total fix but we could and should have still won this game. A TO when they went to the 131 matchup zone could have made a difference.

Lauri had 13 points when they took him out of the game on what shoulda beenna no call when a dude lowered his shoulder and dove into him on a hedge. There was what, 9 min left in first half? They completely took him out of the game and still bent us over and we were still gonna win. Then they bent us over and fisted us. It was blatantly obvious all game and the end removed any doubt. Im furious,not for the loss, for our boys. That game was decided before the tip.

Could we have still won the game? Who's to say that we wouldn not have faced an even more egregious call if it had needed to come to that. I can't believe that we're actually talking about this, but between the odd spread, the bizzare officiating and the game being in Vegas, it does seem suspicious.

This foul was a real head scratcher. I guess I don't know the rules anymore because it sure seemed like a defensive foul.

Agree with most of the posts here. I thought Lauri was give 2 - 3 phony fouls. The officiating made little sense to me.

Allen got a foul on a breakaway where he made an effort to stay out of the way.

The calls on LM and Rawle (just to name a couple) affected the outcome of the game. Lauri didn't commit at least 2 of the fouls he was called for, and Rawle's as mentioned should have been a score plus FT.

Cats should have had a chance in the last 2 minutes to win it, but hey it's done. I'm guessing Butler sees it differently.

That was a game changing bad call. Im lucky i didnt get thrown out of the arena for the shit i was yelling in the stands. But its UCLA so you cant expect that call and the officiating isnt why we lost

I think I prefaced my post by stating UCLA deserved to win, BUT if Lonzo sits when we're up 5 do you really think the final 14 minutes go down like that. I'm not trying to blame the refs, but I also think that if we're being honest with ourselves rather than being focused on being good sports it's really not cut and dry as to how much that non call effected the outcome.

Btw, it's kind of ironic for this situation to unfold given how much the Jason Williams no call (which was clearly more egregious) was talked about leading up to the game.

UCLA is off the charts good. Londo Ball is good health away from being a hall of fame NBA player IMO. They we're by ever measurable measure the better team tonight.

If I am evaluating officials, the center ref who didn't have the balls to call Balls foul would never work a big game. He was totally gutless. That was as blatant as could be. Miller should have gone bat shit crazy and got a T.

There we 3 blown goaltending calls that cost the cost 6 points. The 1st was when Kadeem had his teardrop blocked by 13 of UCLA I am going butcher his name onibagu? The second was on onibagu when Rawle was going for a layup and onibagu hit the rim while the ball was on the rim and then Thomas Welch had a put back when the ball was still on the rim! The no call on ball was not worst of them all his elbow was in Parkers throat. The other calls were normal call I think. But these 4 blatant miss calls changes the momentum in the game but did not cost the cats the game the lack of defensive rebounding lost this game. I love Kadeem and it was senior but trier needed to demand that ball at the end of the game and go Dillion Brooks on UCLA.

The one that hasn't been mentioned is on that late possession where they got 2 offensive rebound and killed 90 seconds off the clock. The second offensive rebound was a blatant over the back. That possession was huge for the game (despite them not scoring), and that call would have drastically changed the time/score dynamic.

Also, not the reason we lost, but they were absolutely atrocious tonight.

That's debatable. But one of the things about home court is home cooking, which isn't about blatant favoritism (like the T-up on Simmons at Pauley after he made a 3-pointer), but rather about the pattern of calls or no-calls that could go either way. Was that really a foul on PJC last night when he was pesky on defense? The one that got whistled only after Ball pushed PJC for what could easily have been his 4th foul? What about questions of offensive and defensive goaltending? With the way debatable calls went last night, you'd think UCLA was the home team.

The first two calls on Lauri changed his game. Both looked iffy. LM never got it going after that.

How many games in a season can we honestly say the game was called fairly? Every team has games when they get the home/"Lakers" whistle. You can take off your homer glasses and still see we are nowhere near 50% combined. Which is ridiculous, the best teams should all be very comfortably over 50%. Where else in basketball do you see the best players and teams not get the calls more times than not?

Begs the question, is the Scott/Rush stuff still lingering and they are just being very careful about the overt stuff? Pac 12 refs are shitty in general, but evenly shitty on both ends is not what we are seeing a lot of the time. The Ball no call was clearly a "we cant do this to UCLA" call. I was sitting in the upper level and could see Lauri get slapped in the face multiple times on that corner trap before calling a timeout. The ref was standing four or five feet from that and looking right at Lauri, u know he saw AND heard it. Refs have no problem saying, call it like it is even if it takes Lauri out of the game, but the same cant go for anyone we play.

We have a lot of issues ourselves, but it would sure be nice to win some games because of officiating like everyone else. Add up the goaltending calls, at least three no calls on inside looks that should have been six free throws, at least three bad calls on great defense and no or minimal contact that led to six UCLA free throws, thats a 20 point swing. There was an offensive foul call on Kobi that looks suspect to me, Balls fourth no call, that are two more possessions lost. There was a ball that looked like it was clearly on the sideline but I was high up (someone please tell me it stayed in bounds).

We would have won the game. Without Ball, UCLA 's offense did not look half of what it was.

The sum total of the reffing wasn't as abysmal as it can be, but that single call may have been the worst of the year. They whistled PJC to avoid having to send a star to the bench for an obvious push off.
