FALL RIVER, Mass. -- Former New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez was found guilty Wednesday of first-degree murder in a deadly late-night shooting and was sentenced to life in prison, sealing the downfall of an athlete who once had a $40 million contract and a standout career ahead of him.
Hernandez, 25, looked to his right, pursed his lips and sat down after the jury forewoman announced him guilty in the slaying of Odin Lloyd, a 27-year-old landscaper and semipro football player who was dating the sister of Hernandez's fiancée. He was formally sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for murder.

Re: Aaron Hernandez sentenced to life in prison
I only hope that the verdict was correct. I would have hated to be on a jury with such a heavy burden...a mans life in the balance. That said, even without all the info, I tend to think that they probably got this one right. Sad if/when someone with millions can't leave their past life behind. What a waste.

It's at least 8 if the victim wasn't his wife. A full 16 if he was smoking weed during.SCCats wrote:"The NFL announced a four game suspension to run concurrently."
He's drawing closer to OJ's record.

Can you imagine if they find he was on weed when he killed the guy?Spaceman Spiff wrote:It's at least 8 if the victim wasn't his wife. A full 16 if he was smoking weed during.SCCats wrote:"The NFL announced a four game suspension to run concurrently."
Better hope that test comes back negative. Or he can at least get it thrown out. Or for some reason the NFL just says his positive weed test isn't important for determining if he broke his weed substance abuse program MLB style.

He made sure his life sentence was a short one.

Has a window and his own cell? For prison life, that's good living. Besides being the strongest guy in his ward.

Re: Aaron Hernandez sentenced to life in prison
Saw an opinion piece on CNN.com where the headline was something about him not being a bad person. Just troubled. As if being troubled excuses you from shooting someone in the face.
EDIT: okay, I just went and read the column. Bad headline. It basically said that instead of criticizing Hernandez we should spend the time to look into our own relationship for signs of troubled people and reach out to them. Kind of hard to argue with that.
