Re: Who's staying? Who's going?
If Rawle's back, we certainly have the best backcourt in the Pac, and probably one of the top 5 nationally.
Re: Who's staying? Who's going?
You can't have a top back court without a top point guard. We might have a top-5 set of wings, but not back court.

We'll see. It's one reason I keep preaching patience. These are 18-20 year olds. Things certainly can change minute to minute.ChooChooCat wrote:I certainly hope common sense came into play and this is the case. It's not just the 18-20 year olds that are making this decision though, lots of guiding going on both good and bad. This is really no different than the recruiting game in that regard unfortunately.Spaceman Spiff wrote:We'll see. It's one reason I keep preaching patience. These are 18-20 year olds. Nice to see Kadeem get some love
Re: Who's staying? Who's going?
This. Which is why I keep saying the insiders have, no doubt, access, but they only have access to whatever the kid is feeling at that moment or wants the insider to know. Unlike recruiting, where there is history to evaluate, and ongoing visits and contacts to assemble to make an educated assertion, there is no such thing as solid information in this situation until a decision is made, because you can't report a decision that has not been made. "Leaning" isn't committing, which is why the insider stuff for the kids who are in this limbo is useless unless you have real information like "we have learned Rawle Alkins has made a call to agent Joe Smith with the intent of signing tomorrow."Spaceman Spiff wrote:We'll see. Short of that...the "insider" information is just closely sourced speculation

Re: Who's staying? Who's going?
Agreed, although the only thing that gives me pause this year as opposed to other years is the introduction of two-way contracts and more open slots than normal. It adds something else to this that usually isn't there, hence why a guy like Rawle or Chance who would most likely return based on their prospects were even leaning to stay in from the get go.EVCat wrote:This. Either way that's very welcoming news about Rawle and let's hope he continues to see the light.

Re: Who's staying? Who's going?
Yeah, that's what I had been trying to say a bit back. This is (likely) not a situation where the decision is done and inside sources know more than us normies. He may be leaning some, but until/unless it goes final, things can change.EVCat wrote:This. I'm sure Miller and Romar are re-recruiting, his friends and family are talking to him and hopefully he is getting NBA feedback too. When he gets an agent or withdraws, it's done. Until then, it may be a lean, but it will be final when it is final.

PJC may never be a top PG, but he really grew up last year. I expect this trend to continue and for him to have his best season at AZ as a senior. So PJC plus Rawle, Trier, Randolph, and Barcello...that's a pretty damn good backcourt if you ask me.Puerco wrote:You can't have a top back court without a top point guard. The combine invite may change everything however.

2. Not happy Rawle got one for selfish reasons only of course

No, just that he is unlikely to get drafted. Chance may want to take a chance overseas in Finland or Poland.Beachcat97 wrote:I mean, so what? Does not getting invited mean a guy will automatically return to school?ChooChooCat wrote:In other news water is wet.

There is going to be a second combine hosted by the IMG Academy May 15-17. Not affiliated with the NBA, but pretty big chance for a lot of these guys who dont receive an invite to Chicago.

If he is going to get drafted in a reasonable spot, good for him. I just don't want to see Rawle leave to go UDFA to low level pro forever.

PJC, at least all conference honorable mention next year.
Also why hate on a kid who tries his hardest and wants to be there? Why not hate on the coach for not bringing in a better option in your eyes?

Whoa, whoa, whoa...PJC played very well in the Pac tourney in wins vs. UCLA and Oregon. TJ McConnell he isn't, nor will ever be, but it's impossible to deny that he made strides in the second half of the season.
Would he take a seat immediately if Duval came to AZ? Of course. But I still like our group of guards for next season. This assumes Rawle is back. If he leaves, and no other guards are added, that's a problem.

i 100% disagree with this -- but even so, why is a senior PG who is honorable mention good enough at Arizona?PHXCATS wrote:PJC, at least all conference honorable mention next year.

its not hate, this isn't AYSO, everyone doesn't get a god damn participation trophy or ribbon, im telling it like it is -- Cartwright has no business being the starting PG playing 25+mpg during the season and 30+mpg in March at a program like Arizona.PHXCATS wrote:Also why hate on a kid who tries his hardest and wants to be there?
none - zilch - nadda
which is exactly what i have done since the end of Cartwright's Soph season -- 100% its not the kids fault and 100% the coaches fault (Sean Miler) not only for putting a kid in a position he wont be successful but also compromising what is a Final Four roster around him by having said player man the most important position on the floor.PHXCATS wrote:Why not hate on the coach for not bringing in a better option in your eyes?
its a crying shame that next season Arizona and one Sean Miller has put all their eggs (barring something totally unforeseen) in the Cartwright and freshman combo guard basket at PG.
its not a recipe for the Final Four

go stick your head in the sand and ignore the problem, but if nothing changes at PG for Arizona we will be back in the same spot the third weekend in March of '18, bummed out buy the same shit, and you and the other ostriches can make up some more excuses why Arizona didnt advance to San Antonio.

I've been advocating for a grad transfer PG for months now and for good reason, yet not even a single rumor or blip that we're looking that route at all. Sigh.
