I don't follow NBA at all, so had no idea what that arena was. Nice to see it holds 18K+

I think we last played there in 2006 against the Illini. A high school senior named Jerryd Bayless sat near court side showing more fire than any Wildcat on the floor, but we won.Merkin wrote:I don't follow NBA at all, so had no idea what that arena was. Nice to see it holds 18K+

I remember in 2003 it was easier to get a ticket on the road than at home. Might be the same this year and Talking Stick Resort Arena will have beer.

I remember going to a double header there back in Dec. 1993.
We beat Okla. State and ASU lost to Boston College.
Good times.

Tickets are up, $30-200. $75 right next to our bench
Re: Valley of the Sun Shootout
Looks like ticket sales are not that great for this game.
This will be U of A's second best OOC game. Why are people not buying tickets.
By the way, GCU is a force now in terms of attendance and atmosphere.

Watch out, GCU will definitely be the new powerhouse in the state soon. Multiple final 4s and championships. all because of their good fans.

Maybe U of A's Phoenix fan base isn't a powerful force worth catering to?PHXCATS wrote:Looks like ticket sales are not that great for this game.

But I am really surprised that there are so many tickets available still. No one in Tucson wants to go? Just because it is a weeknight? Ticket prices too high? No one knows about it? People not excited about Texas A&M?

Re: Valley of the Sun Shootout
For me, being in Tucson, it's mainly with the game being on a weekday.
There should be enough alumni in Phx to move more tickets. You know, the ones that ask for games to be played there.

Yeah, I was thinking about going but just now realized it's a weeknight. At least it's the early game, maybe doable.

Re: Valley of the Sun Shootout
Extremely disappointed in the response by Phoenix for this game. I do think it somewhat messaging and somewhat it being a weeknight. No real buzz anywhetr in Phoenix or Tucson since the presser for it. That said Phoenix alumni should have stepped up bigger to date.
There should be a huge U of A party before the game at the Coors Light Cold Zone. (all ages welcome) I set it up but then was asked by Tucson if they could take control of it so we will see.

Weird, I thought that Phoenix had such a great fan base that they deserved some games up there. You know like they thought they were better than the Tucson fans. And now they aren't interested in going to such a great basketball game? Strange

I thought Tucson was jealous of Phoenix too or something? Dont think it was ever said Phoenix fans were better. Just that a lot of fans were in Phoenix who deserved something but I guess not anymore with this poor support thus far.
Mini packs for the holiday games in Tucson haven't sold out yet, maybe just the December time is not good for games.

Re: Valley of the Sun Shootout
Same day UCLA football shit the bed vs Edgerrin James and Miami and cost us that Rose Bowl back in. Seemed like there were 500 fans crammed in a reception room in the concourse that was showing the game. They were showing it on the arena screen between ASU and UA games and the players were starting to watch it...with 10 minutes or so before tip, the feed shut off and people went pouring into the concourse to find that TV. There was one, up in the corner mounted from the ceiling, and a bunch of ASU and UA fans packed in like sardines. When UCLA's last Cade duck fell to the ground and Miami secured the win, the ASU fans had the only win that day they cared about. Sucked.UAEebs86 wrote:I remember going to a double header there back in Dec. 1993.

Re: Valley of the Sun Shootout
If we draw 7500 to Phoenix on a Tuesday night for an out of conference game, that is pretty solid.
We'll still outdraw a weeknight home game in Pauley. Perspective...the U of A is not in Phoenix, and the hardcore Phoenix fans have tickets by and large and would rather go to McKale than a sterile whateverAWAiscalledtoday environment for a Tuesday OOC on TV.
If you expected a sellout, your expectations are all wrong.
And, yeah...this FBI bullshit is going to keep a few Cats fans not looking for a night of bullshit from ASU fans from going. That's reality, whether it is deserved or not.

Two separate groups of guys said last night they were going but haven't got tickets yet. Wish sales were a lot better to date but ultimate judgment should be held until the game date

Re: Valley of the Sun Shootout
Plenty of time. Let's see how tickets sales go after the real season starts and the sports news starts talking about basketball and the marketing kicks in. You have to forgive Phoenix, we don't talk college basketball until college football starts ramping down. Not like Tucson that talks college basketball 24/7/365. It is still football season y'all...can you believe that!

If I wasnt a big fan and knew about this for a while I wouldnt know about it at all locally. No advertising or anything. It might pickup as basketball season starts and people watch to see the headlines. But this game was more about A&M not wanting to do a true home and home and do neutral site games.

Non conference neutral site games out side of the thanksgiving week tourneys are lame IMO.
Vastly prefer the home and home model. Yes I understand why that is difficult from a scheduling perspective

I prefer it as well. But it is largely going the way of the dodo for programs like Arizona. No one wants to play us in Tucson. And Sean Miller probably doesn't want to play in Lawrence or Lexington either.CalStateTempe wrote:Non conference neutral site games out side of the thanksgiving week tourneys are lame IMO.
