Would You Rather....
Miller gets us to the Final 4 and maybe beyond this upcoming season and then bolts for another program
or
Miller stays for the next 15 years and keeps us in the top ten every year but is continually snakebit in the elite 8 game, never getting us to a Final 4.

Re: Would You Rather....
I'm gonna go with the first one. I think Miller has built upon and expanded what Lute did. It's true that there are very few genuinely good coaches out there, but I like our chances of drawing another young, talented coach to Tucson.Alieberman wrote:Miller gets us to the Final 4 and maybe beyond this upcoming season and then bolts for another program

Also, if the first one happened, Miller wouldn't go anywhere. Just sayin.

I hope for neither. Seriously. And since I can't make either happen with my choice, I will stick with neither.
But for his sake, I would rather he have #1 than #2. The second option would literally kill him.
Re: Would You Rather....
#1 without a doubt
Hearing from people if he doesnt get to the final four before Roy retires and UNC offers he is gone for sure

I am so ready for a Final 4.
Re: Would You Rather....
#2 would be an utter failure, even if that failure is more success than the majority of programs.
Take #1

It wouldn't surprise anyone. But I can't help but notice how UNC likes to keep it in the family. When was the last time they hired a non-Tar Heel?PHXCATS wrote:Hearing from people if he doesnt get to the final four before Roy retires and UNC offers he is gone for sure

Like on this board? Repeatedly? But there is no "doesn't get to a Final Four" qualifier. Just he is gone if offered.
yeah...no secret UNC is his dream job, and likely the only college team we could lose him to. They have to want him, though, which makes us getting really successful right when that opens up a catch 22 of sorts.

Re: Would You Rather....
Briefly because I owe hicat and the board an explanation as to my certainty on the issue:
Was getting an MPH at UNC in school of public health 2013-2015 while completing my fellowship at Duke. Through some grad school contacts met a UNC law student who was also has a job with booster AD relations within the UNC AD. As expected, he is a rabid college bb fan and we hit it off. We're game watching buddies for the time I was there and he fronted tickets to duke UNC at UNC 4rows behind the duke bench.
Anyways we would talk about life after Roy and he said that miller has the youth and the intelligence that per the boosters he is number one. Within the AD they wish to keep it in the family but would be open to going outside for the right person. He alluded that Miller would be that right person. But the booster pressure for miller is huge.
Now I know I'm just a guy on the internet so take it as much or as little as you'd like. Also this was 2015, so things obviously could have changed, but at that time, Roy was going through some health issues and that is where they stood, per my contact at the time.

Re: Would You Rather....
Wow. Well, if UNC is really Sean's dream job, and it's offered to him, that's wonderful for him. Anyone would leap at the chance to take their dream job. And besides, Sean has earned it. As much as it would suck to see him walk away, he's had a wonderful run at AZ. I actually think he's exceeded expectations, particularly with recruiting.
That said, I really think AZ to UNC is pretty much a lateral move at this point. They may be able to pay more, and he may prefer the east coast, so there's that. But AZ hoops is every bit the juggernaut that UNC is. Miller has brought AZ into the current era of NCAA hoops as one of very few truly elite programs. This is his baby now. So I'm not sure he'd have an easy time walking away.

Put me in the camp of either since no one has said it & most are saying 'no'. It's a great question actually...for fun's sake.
Feel like both are pretty great options.

If option two were to happen....Miller goes down like Marino & Barkley & a list of other Hall of Famers who never cracked it. Right?Bear Down Vegas wrote:Put me in the camp of either since no one has said it & most are saying 'no'. It's a great question actually...for fun's sake.

That's my point. Hypothetically/fun speaking....he'd be the greatest ever to not.
Re: Would You Rather....
I get it, but other than Miller I can't think of a great coach who didn't make one, so I am not sure it would be the same level as Marino and Barkley etcBear Down Vegas wrote:That's my point. Hypothetically/fun speaking....he'd be the greatest ever to not.

Trick question. Forks haven't made their way to Lincoln yet, so it's an easy choice.Longhorned wrote:Would you rather never use a fork again or have to move to Lincoln?

that's a good one. would you be happy with:
A:
- 8 years of lottery picks and recruiting championships
- 2 seasons with an nba PG
- super dee duper awesome defense (1 type only)
- plodding offense featuring 3 fast breaks a game
- resulting in: 2 wins against higher ncaa seeds (7 yrs ago) vs. 3 losses to lower ncaa seed
- (overall 13-6 record / avg sweet 16)
OR
B:
- same postseason result as A
- 8 years of top 20 level classes
- freewheeling offense that pushes tempo wherever possible
- defense that compliments the offense tempo
- multiple defensive looks used to suit the situation

The contrast of serious to not remotely within this thread is pretty funny.
