PAC 12 in CHina

Post by CatFanOneMil »

Not sure if this is a good thing, probably more LA centric than anywhere else but the Pac 12 just extended its contract with Alibaba through 2024 to live stream stuff...

Which is ironic since they can't seem to live stream anything anywhere else...

Just wondering if this would be a benefit or not to Az, surely not a lot of "Linns" out there...China???

Maybe the huge population gets something but who in China is going to pay to wake up at 4 am to watch one of our games?

This only makes sense if your name is Larry Scott...

But then again I still haven't figured out why I hate Larry Scott so much...been doing it so long I forgot the reason...maybe this brings money in...I dunno

It's not about if there is anybody watch the game at 4, it's about bring Arizona to the table, and do someting like help recruiting good Chinese stuudent.(academic)

you probably have no ideas about how boys in China crazy about BB. We don't have many fields for palying other games like soccer and FB, so BB is our first option. Diehard chinese NBA fans also concern about college recruting, and they are familiar with schools like KU, Duke, NC, ect.
But, None of my firends have heard Arizona before, even they certainly know there is a PG in 76ers called TJ, Terry the Jet, Lakers and warriors' head coach. Aron, a dunker in magic

This is definitely a good thing for Arizona, not only for the athletic program, but for the University. People around me are like, "Duke, wow, that's a prestigous university", some people even think Duke is a Ivy school, just b/c they heard duke before.

This will bring a notice to Chinese high school and college students that there is a University in US called U of Arizona. They go to the net and find out Arizona is tranditionally a BB school (no more? haha), have excellent geo, optical science, space science program....

btw, i dont think we can watch any NCAA games without alibaba, except in March madness... Stream should be included in the NBA package, so no additional pay out for anybody...

China is always interesting because of the insane population size. Basketball has done well in China, especially since Yao. Guys like Marbury, etc. are having substantial pro careers in China.

Look, I don't exactly trust Larry Scott to pull this one off without a hitch, but creating an overseas market for the Pac is far from his worst idea. China is a good place to start, as they've proven interest and had a massive base of support.

From a business perspective it makes great sense.

From an optics perspective it's terrible. There are people who live in the same states as their favorite team who can't see that team play, but if they move to China they can?
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

^^^^This...THIS is my only complaint about J-ina...^^^^

I'm all for increasing our viewership but at some point the local peeps should get access as well.
