Jay Bilas has an interesting and detailed proposal for the NCAA in the wake of the FBI scandal. Trigger warning: if you're really into the traditional NCAA/amateur dynamic, this is not the article for you. I tend to agree very much, but I recognize my viewpoint is decidedly non-traditional.

Re: Bribery Scandal - FBI Probe - Book Richardson Involved
Didn't want to create a new thread, but these suspensions have nothing to do with the FBI probe:
Mark Phelps for 5 days
Keanu Pinder for 1 game
I know the reason and can't share it publicly, but it's seriously so innocent and plum retarded. There's no bigger issue nor anything that ties with Book/Adidas here. Arizona just found it while doing their internal investigation. Once again it's seriously so stupid, innocent, and just overall silly, but hey we're under the microscope here and any little thing we find we have to be proactive, so there you go. Don't worry about this any more. I just feel bad for Phelps losing pay for 5 days, but c'est la vie.

No, because usually meaningless shit like this is never discovered, because it's never looked into, because it's meaningless shit. Unusual circumstances lead to unusual meaningless discoveries.Jefe wrote:Have we ever suspended an asst coach for 5 games? Strange its not related. I doubt any of you have been furloughed, but you'd be shocked how much pay and benefits you lose over five days.

Re: Bribery Scandal - FBI Probe - Book Richardson Involved
Am I reading into it to assume that Pinders and Marks suspensions are related? Like did Phelps let Pinder use the office phone to call Australia or something?
Re: Bribery Scandal - FBI Probe - Book Richardson Involved
Alabama getting risky...NYCat wrote: Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne announced just prior to tipoff that the Crimson Tide are holding out heralded freshman point guard Collin Sexton until he receives clearance to play from the NCAA.
“The NCAA informed us late this afternoon that Colin Sexton has not had his eligibility reinstated by the NCAA,” Byrne said in a statement. “We don’t have any further information at this time, but we will continue to cooperate with the NCAA and work toward a resolution that results in Colin’s timely reinstatement. While we are disappointed, the right decision was to err on the side of caution for tonight’s exhibition game.”

This is why I told Hank of SB you do a good investigation first. What if we jumped the gun and only did 4 days? The NCAA would be all up on us then.

Alabama won't win and therefore has nothing to vacate.
Re: Bribery Scandal - FBI Probe - Book Richardson Involved
This may have been mentioned before but wanted to throw it out there. Take it with a grain of salt, but my freshman year roommate works for TCU basketball and sent me this text:
"I was talking with our compliance office and they said it would be at least a year before anything happens with the NCAA. They don't have subpoena power (obviously), so they'll wait for the FBI to make everything public, then take action."

He is dead on. Most NCAA processes take at least a year, at the absolute minimum. The chances that the NCAA takes action prior to the end of this season don't exist.btfd16 wrote:This may have been mentioned before but wanted to throw it out there. The only thing would be self-imposed sanctions, but right now we don't have an eligibility issue on our current team unless there's some level of proof about the Dawkins allegation about this year's team.
Either way, play out this year, investigate, self-impose in the offseason. I think it's more likely we lose the 2018-19 postseason by a long shot as opposed to this year.

Inside info: Miller agrees that Pinder has no value on this team beyond deep bench depth so he made up a violation, Phelps took the L to play along, and that’s how we get 30 min of Akot and Lee.

Also, why would he be held out of an exhibition game like he was previously? Those games don't count so eligibility wouldn't be an issue.

Re: Bribery Scandal - FBI Probe - Book Richardson Involved
The conspiracy theory with Randolph is so completely stupid. Just square pegs in round holes, pound, POUND, POUND!!! SUCCESS!!!
Lemme guess...coach tossed Pinder his phone because Pinder ran out of data because he has Australian internet and they ration it.

Yes, every one needs to take off their damn tin foil hat in regards to Randolph. Arizona knows what they have in him and they don't want to even risk the kid for fricken NAU and whoever we just played. If he was a concern they wouldn't have played him in our first exhibition.NYCat wrote:Does Randolph really have a "concussion"
Re: Bribery Scandal - FBI Probe - Book Richardson Involved
So we were the only team that had an assistant coach fired that didn't have a player suspended. Plus Bowen for Louisville and Sexton for 'Bama were suspended, tho Sexton is back. Not sure about Miami.

We played him for like 2 min vs UMBC. Were we trying to risk vacating UMBC because those two first half minutes were super crucial?ChooChooCat wrote:Yes, every one needs to take off their damn tin foil hat in regards to Randolph. Like the other programs, we lost a player cited in the report. In our case it was a future player (JQ). Wow. That guy *has* to be following AZ hoops closer than he's ever followed UCLA, which is weird. He sounds legitimately paranoid in that thread, like AZ's ongoing dominance of UCLA has him in need of medication and rest.Statfreak77 wrote:http://www.bruinzone.com/b12/messages/3738.shtml

I mean, my guess is that Russ is over 65 years of age. He's gotta be old enough to remember UCLA being a legit elite program and simply pines for the past. But instead of paying attention to, say, this year's Bruins, he's utterly consumed by all things AZ hoops. When there's bad news for AZ, it must feel like Christmas morning for him. It's a crappy way to be a fan. I'll admit it: I got too caught up in UCLA for a while, but nowhere near the degree as this guy. His fine-tooth comb readings of those FBI documents reminds me of a conspiracy theorist looking for evidence of JFK's assassination plot or UFOs in Roswell.Statfreak77 wrote:Yeah, it is funny stuff.
