The Cats are going to have to improve by leaps and bounds just to make it respectable.

Yeah it looks like we're pretty fucked atm.

Looking at the seat map on Ticketmaster, looks like the lower bowl is 75% and the upper bowl is 30% full. Knowing there are a number of tix sold to GCU folks, and Valley fans show up late, the stadium prolly will look less full than that. The FBI investigation and losing the 3 in the Bahamas sure didn't help to build up buzz or momentum around this team going into the game. An unranked Arizona vs Top 10 TAMU looks a lot less appealing than a #2 vs #10 matchup. My vote would be to put all early season, neutral court games in Vegas or San Diego going forward. Places where regular fans can get to via a small road trip. And if the CATS stink it up, hey, you are at least in a town where you can find something to do. Forget this Bahamas and Hawaii crap where it is too expensive and you have to plan WAY in advance unless you are a person of means. Also, I hate to say it, but Phoenix doesn't look like a good destination either if there isn't a brisk last minute or walk-up traffic.

GCU has promoted this big time. There has been very little promotion by UA and the location media just picked it up the last week or so

There's really no bad blood with GCU. Doubt ASU fans show up on a work night. There will be plenty of bandwagon A&M fans and probably some local St. John's fans. It should be a primarily UA crowd during our game but still have a neutral court feel like at a Pac-12 tournament game.Gilbertcat wrote:Just realized it will probably be hostile environment. “I enjoyed my year at the University of Arizona,” Justin Simon said in a statement from UA. “I would like to thank my coaching staff, teammates and the incredible fans here for all they did for me. My decision to transfer is centered on playing time. I would like a bigger role as a basketball player. Hopefully, I will be able to find this at my next program.”
Kobi, Rawle, Trier, Kadeem, PJC etc would be playing in his sophomore year. Also Arizona were about to land Ferguson.

Thanks RondaeShimmy. Sucks as we could use him in the rotation about now....especially as a Junior....one would expect he’d possibly could be an elite defender under CSM at this point in his career.

Re: Valley of the Sun Shootout
Didn't Tyler Dorsey decommit from U of A and go to Oregon because Justin Simon was recruited over him? That was a double whammy. We shot ourselves in the foot twice over that one. I vaguely remember that one or 2 established Wildcats were tight with Simon and preferred him over Dorsey. It may even have been Trier. It is nice to see someone as soft as Charmin rebounding as well as Justin is now.
At least Tyler never hurt us too much while he was a Duck. ;<.

Re: Valley of the Sun Shootout
We lost Justin Simon because he wanted more PT and he didn't want to play defense at Arizona.
Now he's a third year player getting PT and playing defense like his physical tools allow. Who could have seen that coming... well, everyone except for a bratty project player who transferred at the first sign of adversity.
Re: Dorsey, he left because we got Trier.

We are definitely the underdog. This is a major test for us on a neutral court. If we're better than we showed in the Bahamas, this game is where we need to show improvement.RondaeShimmy wrote:They're now ranked #7

Guys how the fuck are we going to match-up with DJ Hogg? He's 6'9" and plays the three and he's shooting lights out from behind the arc.

This is a good matchup for Dusan and Ayton to play together against Davis and Williams.

If Alkins were back, Miller could at least counter by making Hogg defend somebody. But since that's unlikely, Hogg gets a free pass on both ends unless Randolph gives everyone something to talk about.Spaceman Spiff wrote:If Akot was an option...otherwise, we're looking at Randolph unless Alkins is back.YoDeFoe wrote:Guys how the fuck are we going to match-up with DJ Hogg? I'm not necessarily hyped about Randolph, but process of elimination leaves him unless Rawle is back.

Maybe their guards will have enough easy layups so they won't have to kick it out to Hogg.RondaeShimmy wrote:Randolph is terrible defensively
Anyway, I'm just kidding. If you can hold Hogg to 20, which would be his season high, you can win the game in other ways. We're just afraid because the history of wings going off against Arizona.
Re: Valley of the Sun Shootout
You be aggressive and drive at him early hoping to get a couple of fouls and then bench time. I'd do this to any good player, attack attack attack. Foul trouble is the perfect defense. I know he isn't foul prone, but make him become foul prone.YoDeFoe wrote:Guys how the fuck are we going to match-up with DJ Hogg? I agree with the attack-mode philosophy. Gotta come out with an edge because it will be near impossible to dig ourselves out of a 10+ point hole.

I feel like Sean Miller does not attack guys that often in that aspect. Hope it happens.
Also I like a good hard clean foul on him. Let him know it is not going to be a stroll in the park.
