I'm calling it. One week without a post. On 15 Oct 2014 MAO's free boards for football and basketball are officially dead.

I haven't been back. Was curious from time to time but honestly - that whole thing really pissed me off more than bummed me out. I was a subscription member to both GOAZCATS & Scout & all I wanted was good information/discussion as soon as possible. It's still all I want.
They totally butchered the handling of everything over there - which is a shame. Feel a little bad saying it since I had so many good times over there but - good riddance.

Re: TOS Discussion
This website, even with its funky (current) url...is already rated higher than TOS is.
according to alexa, TOS's current U.S. rank is: 253,429
and this site rank is : 220,322
...
p.s., I find it hilarious that TOS (still) feels the need to have the board metrics lie about currently active users. As if there are really 1500+ people browsing that site right now. mm hmm, sure.

MAO once told me that unlike other sites, TOS's "currently active users" logged on some time in the last 4 hours. He said that other sites pad their stats by taking the total number of log-ins over 24-48 hours, or more. Looks like he learned his lesson.

I wonder just how wide mao's window is now for active users. 24-48 weeks? months?Chicat wrote:MAO once told me that unlike other sites, TOS's "currently active users" logged on some time in the last 4 hours. I very much doubt that there are 1300 visitors to that site within 24-48 hours.
A very honest window. I don't think there's anything wrong with even a window of an hour or two (only cause it's about the length of a basketball game or a little longer than a football half, so people who post before a tip can come back and post again). but TOS is obviously pushing the bounds of incredulity with whatever sized window they're using.UAdevil wrote:Our currently active users here is based on a 30-minute window fwiw.

Since I would always check the checkbox to stay logged in on both of these sites, I never did figure out when I would drop off the active user list on the site if I hadn't logged off.
As far as I know, there, I was always listed online.

I wondered that too. Plus I would log in from multiple devices (iPhone, iPad, work laptop, home desktop) so I was likely logged in even when I wasn't actively looking at the site.catgrad97 wrote:Since I would always check the checkbox to stay logged in on both of these sites, I never did figure out when I would drop off the active user list on the site if I hadn't logged off.

Re: TOS Discussion
What admin failed to realize is in owning a domain and profiting off the traffic he never owned the community. He owns the links to our previous content, but he's fast learning (or ignoring) that without those who fueled his business, what he "owns" now is empty history, empty forums, and foot traffic where once we supplied a freeway system.
I told him. He may have thought owning a message board made him an authority, but I've been a part of dozens of communities over 15 years. I know how they succeed, and I know how they fail. I warned him he'd be left with a meaningless future if his once-proud domain if he didn't heed my attempts at improvement and peace.
It's like what LeBron recently said about the differences in Pride and Progress.
I offered my expertise free of charge. I had a legitimate and workable vision that I've helped implement at other boards, or have seen work at other boards. It was legitimate and workable progress. I was willing to let his backhanded treatment of the forum members slide because of history and my vision for the site's future.
But he was too proud, and if it couldn't be done his idiotic and outdated way, nothing would be done.
So he has what he likely wanted all along: an empty forum free of needing care, attention, or administrating.
He also has what I promised, a nothing site, premium included.

Hot or Not has been taken to an epic level. So that's good.
Game thread for the Cal game was fairly mind-blowing. I think there was a lot of typing & crying.
The Goat announced himself as the only person outside of St. Louis and Baltimore who didn't want to see the Royals make the World Series.
Oh, and Mystery Admin Overlord at GoAZCats went into full blown meltdown mode and after getting rid of PMs he then made up all these visitor messages from JMark and others talking all kinds of crazy shit. Like a child...
Other than that, things are about the same...
