Oddly UCLA seems to care that they’ve not won a PAC 12 title under Alford.

It's stupid. When you're winning league titles, you're pissed that you're not reaching the FF. When you're not winning league titles, you complain that your coach sucks.

Let this be a lesson to AZ fans: UCLA wants to be where we are. They obviously want to be *beyond* where we are, but at the moment, they'd be happy with a measly Pac title.

Don't know if Alford will still be there but UCLA could have their worst season ever and still manage to beat us.

Looking forward to the coaching search. Should be nice and amusing.

Arizona State might have the most surprisingly anemic history in men's basketball of any program that you might think is better than it is.

Musselman, Earl Watson, Hoiberg, Jamie Dixon. Whoever it is will need to be paid considerably more than $2.6 million that Alford was paid

Mussleman has too much baggage, Watson has no shot, Hoiberg is probably a panic hire, and Dixon is probably comfortable at his Alma Mater

No idea. Hoiberg is the guy we would get if it were up to DG. Bob Myers is on the search committee so that is a positive move. I'd back the truck up to Dee, bur he wont leave. Maybe Keatts or Beard and hope they are the rising stars for the next 2 decades but they are in good situations. Maybe Tony Bennett wants a challenge so.ewhere outside of the ACC

Bennett is not leaving VA for the UCLA job. UCLA has unrealistic expectations and coaches know it — what elite coach wound take that job knowing the school jettisoned Holland shortly after making 3stesight final fours?

Jamie Dixon was Ben Howland's top assistant at NAU & Pitt. Would he go down that rabbit hole? I don't think so.

Lazy take. Ucla holds into coaches way to long, not jettisons them quickly. Lavin and Alford were held onto too long. You are about 25 years too late with this idea

The problem for UCLA (and would be for us if we were stupid enough to be in the coach hiring business anytime soon) is that the only “sure thing” hires aren’t leaving their current gigs—despite what we may think of our respective programs, these would be lateral moves at best. Why would an Izzo, Self, Roy, K, Calipari, Wright leave their current institutions? Obviously they won’t. That leaves a bunch of coaches who are cross your fingers and pray hires. Maybe they get lucky, maybe they don’t. But anything is better than Alford, as I said from the moment he was hired. Talk about hiring a mediocre wannabe with no measurable success (beyond shielding his players from rape charges). So UCLA will presumably be better off unless they manage to screw this hire up just as thoroughly.

Of the coaches being bandied about as realistic successors, I haven't seen one yet that would clearly -- and relatively quickly -- put UCLA back on the national radar. Hoiberg? Dixon? Keatts? Earl freaking Watson? I suppose there are always new good coaches waiting to emerge (Eric Musselman), but I can't imagine UCLA alums are going to be pumped up at a Hoiberg news conference, unless they're just ecstatic to put the Alford era to rest.

There's talk of Billy Donovan, but does that make sense to anyone? He's not a west coast guy and could never make as much at UCLA as he can in OKC.

Matta's name is coming up a lot today too. I like Matta. Had a very nice run at OSU.

Does ucla have any money? I heard they fly coach on southwest airlines to most of their away games.

What the heck is that nonsense?

Is this U C Little sisters of the Abjectly impoverished?

God knows they probably pay their concessions and t shirt people more than they can make by selling 257 tickets at a basketball game.

If Larry Scott loves his LA schools so much he should work out a tv deal to get the schools enough money to pay a decent coach and charter some flights.

Are there really any Hurley fans? I havent seen a single mention on BRO and in twitterverse, he's mentioned with Watson, so it's not great company to be in. Wright was always considered a colossal underachiever until he wasn't. Winning two titles can do that for a person.

Unless they move on Watson or Hoiberg, which there really isn't much of a rush to, this is going to be at least 2 and a half months of idle speculation.

Didn't watch the video, but Steve Kerr has said he will never coach college due to all the NCAA rules, along with the grind of recruiting.

I only browse Bruinzone . . . and then only when UCLA fires a coach or travels to China or something like that.

Let’s not get crazy. The latter makes the former look like John freaking Wooden.

That list of possible UCLA hires seems pretty legit, but really, who knows what the coaching carousel could look like this spring? There could be some names out there by April no one’s even thinking of.
