2019 New York Yankees

Post by Chicat »

What a way to start the year with Mo & Moose going into the hall. Two of my all time favorite players.

Mo certainly...Mussina more of a hmmm for me but maybe it's because I'm more old school when it comes to HOF's (i.e. stats augmented with eye test).

So if my team was playing and knew Mussina was the opposition pitcher would I have said "oh shit, little chance of a victory?". No, I would say we were facing a tough starter but that's it.

Mo getting 100% of the votes is certainly well deserved but moreso due to the media culture we live in today. Can you imagine the instant abuse a voter would have taken if he/she did not vote for him? Social media would have blown up. Lol.

I like DL because the word “Disabled” conjures images of a muscle strain rendering a multi-millionaire a paraplegic.

Three game sweep at Baltimore.

38 Hits
14 HRs
2.45 ERA

Still a total hodgepodge of talent in unfamiliar places but they looked a fuckload better this weekend.

We will see when they play a real team like the Astros coming up.

Same B’more team that took 2 of 3 from the Yankees in the Bronx and 2 of 3 from the Jays in Toronto to start the season. Sweeping them on the road was a good sign.

You got admit Greg Bird on the IL is the least shocking news in baseball.

Having said that, the Yanks need to fire the trainer.

At least you have the "lowly" Red Sox to beat up on the next couple of days.

But now he’s dealing with a shoulder injury.

Training staff should all be fired tomorrow.

Oh, and Clint Frazier is going on the IL too. Fucking hooray...

Although I’m excited that these guys are playing over their heads, I’m also a firm believer in the law of averages. Going to need Sanchez, Gardner, Gleyber, and LaMahieu to step it up otherwise things can go sideways quickly.

Winning 8 out of 9 with essentially a spring training travel squad ain’t half bad. Takes some pressure off guys to come back too soon.

Another win.

Another couple of players having to leave the game early due to injury. Pretty soon they're going to have to call up some kids from Double A. This is crazy.

It doesn't hurt when the quality of opponents are sub-par - and I'm talking about around the league.

There are a lot of shitty teams this year.

Andujar back to the IL with the labrum tear and because he couldn’t get back on track. Wondering if they’ll shut him down for the year. Jonathan Loaisiga also just went on the IL.

With Urshella and DJ emerging as solid infield options and Didi making his way back, I’d like to see Andujar get surgery and come back ready next year.

Feels like a dream that this team is just a half game out of first. Getting Hicks back tonight and Stanton, Tulowitzki, and James Paxton back later this month. If Judge and Didi can be back in June, this team is going to be scary good.

Yep, that’s been the season.

But they are playing way above their (current) talent level. They’ve won 7 of their last 8 series, including one against the Red Sox and one versus the Rays. So for as frustrating as all these injuries are, watching these rookies, journeymen, and AAA players put on the Pinstripes and play like Stars has been pretty awesome.

Miguel Andujar will undergo surgery on his torn labrum and is out for the season.

I’d be more upset at this except Cashman went out and got Gio Urshella last season and DJ LaMahieu in the offseason so when Didi gets back DJ can move to third if Gio comes back down to earth.

This team will be scary good when even moderately healthy.

Yankees keep winning ... and keep getting hurt.

2 games ahead of 2nd place Tampa and 5.5 ahead of Boston.

CC Sabathia likely headed to IL with right knee pain. Giancarlo Stanton’s IL stint just got 5 days added to it (at least) with a calf strain from being hit by a pitch in batting practice of all places. What in the actual fuck...

Heard about this on the radio today. Crazy.

https://www.nydailynews.com/sports/base ... -1.2138703" target="_blank
(Originally published by the Daily News on Tuesday, March 6, 1973; written by Phil Pepe)

Fort Lauderdale, Fla., March 5 - Yankee pitchers Fritz Peterson and Mike Kekich disclosed today that they had exchanged families several months ago, Peterson moving in with Susanne Kekich and her two daughters, Kekich moving in with Marilyn Peterson and her two sons.

The pitchers, in separate talks, said they had decided to reveal the arrangement because too many people knew about it. They thought it was time to clear the air and, the 31-year-old Peterson confided, they hoped that "you won't make anything sordid out of this."

According to Kekich: "Unless people know the full details, it could turn out to be a nasty type thing. Don't say this was wife-swapping, because it wasn't. We didn't swap wives, we swapped lives."

Clint Frazier is optioned to AAA. He’s going to mash there and get traded for MadBum and I’m going to be pissed when he destroys Yankee pitching as a member of the Giants.

The Yanks are hot (5 wins in a row) heading into this Houston series and the Astros are most definitely not (just got swept by the Reds). Up 3.5 (4 in the loss column) over the Rays who they just swept, and up 7 over the Red Sox.

Oh, and they’re getting everyone healthy.... :D

Currently 6.5 games ahead of the Rays and 9 games in front of the Red Sox who they play in London this weekend.

Coaches from both teams said breaking balls didn’t break and thought it may have had to do with the aerodynamics of the stadium.
