Re: let's talk '20
Marjon Beauchamp & possibly Puff (if he doesn't reclassify) in Arizona, have to like the chances at landing one.The Johnson family experienced highs and lows last week. Things ended on a positive note with the Phoenix Suns selecting North Carolina’s Cameron Johnson with the 11th pick in the NBA Draft. Unfortunately, the week started off sour as Puff Johnson, the younger brother of the former Tar Heel standout, was ruled ineligible to play his senior year of high school basketball because he played high school ball as a 7th and 8th grader.
The Johnson family has appealed the ruling, but until the final word comes down, Johnson is exploring his options in case things don't work out. The four-star prospect is currently on campus at UNC working out with his brother, and it's possible that Johnson could receive enough credits to be ruled eligible to play college basketball this season. If that is the case, Arizona might be the team to beat, though Notre Dame, Pitt and North Carolina would definitely be options, too.
Prep school is also a possibility, as is Johnson moving to Phoenix with his brother and finishing his high school career in Arizona.
For now, Johnson will complete his travel career next month at the Nike Peach Jam.
Also another interesting note numerous future PG recruits say they like Mannion and want to see how Mannion is used by Miller. Hopefully he balls out and he goes high in the draft and leads to other top PGs and get the PG factory going again.

Re: let's talk '20
Sounds like that might be the case. If so and we are done (outside of Puff potentially) what are everyone's thoughts on '20. Going to have a lot of potential spots available. A LOT of early playing time. Likley not a single starter returning and possibly only 10% of all minutes.
Likely on the team:
1. Jemarl Baker
2. Ira Lee
3. Jordan Brown
4. Christian Koloko
Maybe on the Team:
5. Brandon Williams (hope springs eternal)
6. Devonaire Doutrive (who knows where his head will be at)
7. Josh Green (massive potential, but does he need extra seasoning?)
8. Puff Johnson (tea leaves seem strong)
Likely Gone
Nico Mannion (could he play his way into a top 5 pick?, we need him too)
Zeke Nnaji (Has stated wants to be 1AD and is growing quickly)
In a best case scenario we will need 5 and likely 7-8 and maybe 9!
Of the player’s we seem to have legit shot with, this is how I would rank want/need:
1. Beauchamp (impact defender, must have in every CSM class)
2. Nix/Love (heavy need for ball handler/playmaker)
3. Williams (versatile)
4. Christopher (buckets)
5. Burnett (seems like the tough kind of guard Miller likes)
6. Dawson Garcia
7. Any other big we are chasing
*Puff Johnson reclassifies to ’19 (hopefully w/ the Cats)
** the two Jalen’s are not possibilities, either would slot below Beauchamp
*** if BW is truly lost to medical… Nix/Love and Burnett become much higher needs.

In a perfect world you also return Doutrive and Puff (if he reclassifies). May have to go the grad transfer route at PG though, we won't land Nix (you won't like his landing spot) and the other PGs we offered are probably too far out of our zip code honestly.YoDeFoe wrote:Fuck. Depressing on the PG situation. I am sure CSM envisioned a healthy Jr BW leading that years squad when he signed 2 years ago.
What is Nix tie to the Bruins? Shoe Company/AAU?

Nico, Josh and Zeke...OAD.
Re: let's talk '20
Certainly anything can happen, but would seem more likely than not. There does seem to be a lot of international talent in 2020 which could shake up the lottery. I think Nico is gone but depending on Josh and Zeke's development, a 2nd year might benefit them. Hopefully they find the friendly confines of campus to be enticing.Beachcat97 wrote:Nico, Josh and Zeke...OAD.

Re: let's talk '20
I actually think, if Doutrive and Puff (fingers crossed) return in 2020, we would have the backbone of a pretty solid team. Baker, Doutrive, Puff, Lee, Brown, Koloko is a pretty positive 6 to start with. As Choo said, would likely need a high level grad transfer PG, but after that, we probably would need only one more wing and one more big from the freshman class to be a pretty high level team again in 2020. Beauchamp seems most likely at the wing, not sure about the big. Regardless, I think the pieces would be in place to be solidly in contention in the PAC12. And if any of the assumed 3 OADs from the 2019 class come back, we could be really good.YoDeFoe wrote:Fuck. That's a lot of turnover.

My guess is:

1 will probably contract some random illness forcing him to miss most of the year.

Kinda sucks that we can't consistently land top PGs, almost pointless watching a team without a top flight scoring PG because it's going to result in early NCAA tournament eliminations.

Is Dalen a PG? I watched some highlights and he seems pretty unathletic but has a good shot. Then I looked up his stats and he averaged 11.4 assists per game last year. Some places have him as a SF and some PG. He kinda seems like a Kyle Anderson type player.
Re: let's talk '20
He had an almost 7:1 A:TO ratio. And a over 2:1 steal to to turnover ratio lol

I wouldn’t mind him playing point next season - he’s got great vision and IQ, he plays as a PG currently and trains as a PG. He’s so damn skinny I’m not sure I trust him at the SF either. And of course - who else is going to play it?ChooChooCat wrote:He can play the 1-3, I doubt we'd use him as a full time PG though.SunnyAZ wrote:Is Dalen a PG? To Choo’s note though... if someone else better suited to be the primary PG emerges, always great to have multiple playmakers.

Beyond the body composition (adding weight) concerns, worried about DT’s low shot release and seemingly limited athleticism. Also curious if he’s more athletic than he seems but just can’t offer it with his vulnerable frame.
Encouraged by his intention to get tougher inside, tenacious on D, and be a stud NBA player.
Also shoutout to the 2020 class... Jordan Brown, Jamarl Baker, and Dalen Terry. Fuuuuck yeah

Awesome to see that they got the commitment only what, a month after offering? I'm sure there was obviously some recruiting of him before Compton Magic gave the go ahead but this felt like a fast turnaround.
Miller continues impress me more and more, if you weren't impressed with him before the FBI scandal dropped, I can't see how you aren't by now. 2020 class will probably end up exceeding all of our expectations we had a couple months ago, Terry is a great start.

Dalen Terry: Arizona lands commitment from Top 25 2020 prospect
ByJosh Gershon 17 hours ago
Arizona has landed its first commitment of the 2020 class and it is a big one.
Dalen Terry, a 6-foot-6, 190-pound small forward from Phoenix Hillcrest Prep pledged to the Wildcats, he told 247Sports.
“I’m going to the University of Arizona,” Terry said. “It’s just the best opportunity for me.”
Terry is the 38th ranked 2020 prospect in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings, although 247Sports ranks Terry higher than that at 25th nationally.
Arizona’s all out pursuit of Terry moved fast. The Wildcats offered in June and quickly took control of the recruitment.
“They made up a lot of ground really quick,” said Terry. “They offered me and I’m already more comfortable with them than anyone else.
“The whole staff recruits me; they’re the only school that recruited me with their entire staff.”

I don't follow recruiting all that much due to "commit" being just a suggestion, but doesn't Duke and UNC also recruit with their entire staff?HiCat wrote: “The whole staff recruits me; they’re the only school that recruited me with their entire staff.”

Every staff does with recruits they really want. If you take anything from that comment take it that Arizona really prioritized Terry and showed him as much.Merkin wrote:I don't follow recruiting all that much due to "commit" being just a suggestion, but doesn't Duke and UNC also recruit with their entire staff?HiCat wrote: “The whole staff recruits me; they’re the only school that recruited me with their entire staff.”

He's a 4 star around 35 or so nationally. I think it's more that Arizona treated him like a top ten guy, which he probably didn't get from all schools.Merkin wrote:I don't follow recruiting all that much due to "commit" being just a suggestion, but doesn't Duke and UNC also recruit with their entire staff?HiCat wrote: “The whole staff recruits me; they’re the only school that recruited me with their entire staff.”
