So Bug, give us the straight scoop - how do you see this game playing out and are you guys busting out the black unis again? Ucla has had Arizona's number the last 2 seasons but I think the difference in this game is Anu. He's not going to be intimidated by being on the road and playing at the Rose Bowl.

Looking at the stats the teams are pretty similar with the one big difference being sacks and sacks allowed. Arizona is 5th in the conference in getting to the QB with 19 while Ucla has 10. Arizona has given up the 2nd fewest sacks in the conference with 15 while Ucla leads the conference 26 sacks allowed.

UA's pass defense doesn't look good stats wise since both Goff and Halliday threw for a ton of yards but I thing the 4 down DL against wazzu and playing really just one LB the entire game with 6 DB's confused Halliday and didn't give him the passing lanes that he is used to being there. Parks could've had at least 3 ints just from being in the passing lanes.

Conversely, our rush D probably isn't as good as our ranking in the conference but if you've played Wazzu then it evens out for everybody at some point. Playing wazzu this week moved us up to 4th in the conference in Rush D. Ucla is #2 in the conference in rushing the ball so my guess is you come out and try to establish the run and keep the pressure off of Hundley.

Both teams want some balance on offense and it will be interesting to see who prevails in taking advantage of what the D is giving them. Should be a very interesting game.
LA Steel uniforms, which are slightly different from the midnight jerseys.

UCLA rarely blitzes and instead relies on the front 3 getting pressuring on the QB, which has limited the amount of sacks. Your guys old DL coach, Mike Tui, is currently the "pass rush/DE coach". I dont think he'll be here next year however. The LB'ers have been generally good. They are good at getting sideline to sideline, less going out in coverage, at least Kendrick struggles more than Jack in coverage, but Jack over-pursues more than he should.

As far as getting sacks, once you rattle Hundley, he puts his head down and takes off. He usually can get some positive yards, but occasionally he gets pulled down behind the LOS, which results in the sacks. It's been his flaw at UCLA, more Kapernick than Russell Wilson an will probably keep him from ever being successful in the NFL. The coaches havent been rolling Hundley out though, which is suprising because it would buy him more time or give him a chance to run more. He doesnt usually keep the zone read. The staff was able to see that Cal couldn't stop the screens and ran it to death against them. They didnt bother to run it vs CU, which I think was arrogance on their part. The OL is finally healthy, but how effective they are based on Colorado remains to be seen.

UCLA does get big plays on D, Special Teams, their WR's, and their RB's. If you can limited most of those, Arizona should be fine. UCLA can drive the ball down the field, but mental faux pas's by Hundley, penalties, or conservative play calling generally sinks those drives. Broken tackles by Perkins or the bigger receivers usually get us extra yards.

How UCLA responds defensively remains to be seen. Oregon notwithstanding, and probably Memphis, the D has been solid enough. Against Cal, Hundley gave them three scoring drives closer than the 35. I doubt Myles Jack plays all that much. UCLA blew a 17 point lead against Colorado so getting a lead doesn't mean much right now, especially against a team like Arizona. That being said, the D is tailored more against spread offenses than traditional offenses right now.

If good Hundley shows up, I think UCLA wins. If bad Hundley shows up, Arizona will boatrace UCLA.
My gut says that if Anu gets hot and in rhythm early like he did against Wazzu that Arizona will be in this game to the end. The wazzu game was the best Anu has played and that being said, there's still plenty for him to improve upon. Again, I think he's the key for Arizona as he has been for every game we've played. All the guy does is win.

Arizona changed things up on D vs Wazzu and Scooby was very effective rushing off the edge, it will be interesting to see what we do differently for Ucla or do we go back to the 3-3-5 stack?

Its going to be interesting to see how injuries play out, if at all. I know the general feeling is the next guy needs to step up and that’s all that can be done, but starters are starters for a reason. Cam Denson is going to grow up quick if McCall is limited or can't go.

I know its very early to start worrying but I still wonder what the status of Bondurant, and McCall will be?

I still get the impression that Nick Wilson is not 100% and may not be all year. Ankle injuries can be a bitch to heal up.

It was nice to see Bundage back in action, he is huge component in the run game.

Given UCLA's rushing game, I can't see playing in a dime as the base set. It would be interesting to see Casteel mix it in on occasion, though. Confuse Hundley a little to make him put his head down, like Bug says.

Mr. Bugg: I'm curious why you feel like Coach Tui won't be there next year? Is he being scapegoated; not doing a good job or what? I always thought he was a heck of a recruiter for us but I think Joe Salave'a is probably a much better DL coach when it comes to technique. But you guys have a really good DL coach, don't you?

My own opinion after watching the drive is that Mora would wear on you after a while.

He's not involved that much with recruiting. We have gotten some Poly's, but we also have Kennedy Pola at RB coach. Tui is responsible for pass rush and we aren't generating that much of a push and certainly not getting any sacks either. I think there will be changes on the defensive side of the ball this offseason, and I expect Tui to be one of those

"What are you looking at, porn??" No, i'm reading the Arizona message boards. "Why is she bent over with an F Me look on her face". I don't know, but now that you mention it....

If I'm going to be busted for it, I want to see more of her!! What's her name, and where can more pics be found?

Butcher, too funny. It came from sports avatars I googled. She is just a cheerleader and I thought that would be a good one since my wife is blond and is sexy as hell (at least to me)

HERE'S WHAT WE KNOW:
• She was a (NFL?) cheerleader
• she was (faux) blonde
• she was bent over
• she had tanned skin

According to Google reverse image search

https://www.google.com/search?tbs=sbi:A ... mUOyzelozE

she is apparently synonymous with a Daddy issues image macro, pictured below

No luck in finding who she actually is,

Has to be NFL. Team would seem to be either Cardinals, Falcons, or perhaps Bucs. Natural grass would appear to eliminate Falcons. As a Cardinals fan I don't ever recall a getup like that, so I'm voting that she's a Bucs cheerleader.

Bug what was your take on Mora's comments in yesterday's presser:

http://www.latimes.com/sports/ucla/la-s ... story.html

UCLA's only losses this season were to No. 5 Oregon and No. 18 Utah. Mora felt Sunday was a time to defend the program.
"We're still growing as a team," Mora said. "We're two years into our tenure and we have a 75% overhauled roster. We're 25-8 [in regular season play] with a completely overhauled roster."
Factoring in the turnover, Mora said, "As much gloom and doom as there is out there, I challenge anyone to find a UCLA team that has done better than this group." He went even further, saying, "Let's not forget, the last game before we got started was a 50-0 [butt] kicking"

Odd to see a HC get so defensive after a win. Certainly could work in the team's favor if it ends up becoming an "us against the world" bunker mentality - or it could be an indicator that they're too worried about what people think of them.

She's an ex-tennessee titans cheerleader

Image

I say "ex" cause I don't see her on their current roster. I don't see any links to past rosters on their website though...so no idea what her n ame is.

:::edit I found their rosters back to 2009, but don't see her.

so must be older than that.

Bug, in your opinion did your boy's just underestimate the Buffs or have the Buffs improved that much?

I've been telling the guys on this board that the Cats better not think Colorado is going to be an easy win or you may get your ass a "L" as in loss before you know what hit you.

I don't know anyone who didn't have huge respect for Terry Donahue. Bob Toledo was the first of many "Guerrero hires" (yes, I know he was Dalis, but it was a Guerrero-type hire), and it just went sour from there.

And the Terry Donahue era was eons ago. I mean, even in basketball they hate their coaches after time. They ran out Howland just to get Alford.

The past UCLA teams post Donahue tended to be soft and were finess teams that didn't like to play against Arizona's physical style. We used to beat them up. Now with Mora they have become much more physical and generally have the second best talent in the conference.

This is what scares me about them. If we can't out physical them and if we don;t have as much talent the only thing left is to out scheme them. That may happen this year but it's a crap shoot

I didn't listen to the end but I noticed Mora didn't discuss the extra coaching on how to grab and hold receivers in a manner the incompetent PAC12 refs do not catch. Also, no discussion about the coaching about driving the receivers into the ground without being flagged by the same incompetent refs.

Only one way to blow up this mindset, which I'm afflicted with after 30+ years. Remember an important game there in the early 90s. Parked on the nearby golf course. Cats got blown out. We left early, but couldn't find the damn car. We searched the front 9. We were on the back 9. By the time we found the car, the game was over and we were stuck in traffic with jubilant Bruins.

Another time, we were up 18-7 at the half, but it should've been much more. In the second half, they converted a third and forever, when a DB went for the pick and didn't get it. Lost.

On the plus side, I was there for the game Daryll Lewis won with a Pick 6.
Right where I want to be.

If UCLA was to win by 7 then I would suspect that the post game comments will reflect that we did not contain Hundley as needed and he finally had one of his long awaited and overdue Heisman Trophy type days.

We are so much better as a team when we attack, and attacking Hundley and keeping him under pressure is exactly what we better be game planning to do.

Letting him complete long gainers through the air and allowing him to run open in the second level means that there will be some pretty sad faces and cranky feelings on this blog.

I think we'll be ready. The team knows they can hang with anyone.

I think we win by 3 on a late field goal and stun the Bruins.

I am too lazy to read these posts, are UCLA's offense line injuries and woes a thing of the past now? One would think we could do to them what we did to Oregon from a pressure standpoint if their line is still as bad as it was a few weeks ago. I haven't watched much of UCLA since the Utah game.

I think we win by 3 on a late field goal and stun the Bruins.

That would be the bestest ending ever if Skowron can redeem himself.

As an aside, I'm hearing more and more that this UCLA team plays dirty. It appears they love to come in late and punish the ball carrier and receivers when they are effectively down. We're already limited with injuries and depth issues with Bondo and McCall.

It was appearently so bad in the Cal game there was a write up on the missed PF's not being called and it was published in a paper in Cali. I don't have a link.

Just some food for thought and what to look for. I'm sure RR and the staff are aware of this situation.

A 48 yarder right down the middle as the clock turns to double zeros.

In all fairness, Mora is right. The expectations of a Pac 12 championship in year 2 is pretty unfair to the players and coaches to say the least. They are still inconsistent. He has a lot of work to do to make sure the players don't quit on him when the media has crowned these kids so prematurely. That's kind of the curse of the big market and how badly Larry Scott wants UCLA to become a premier athletic school again.

Larry Scott has a funny way of showing it.

It's Mora's third year FYI

Yeah guys, I expect the winner to do it on a FG. This is going to be a brutal hard fought game.

One more loss and UCLA is done. Their backed into a corner and will respond accordingly.

We better be ready.
