Dinner Tonight

Re: Dinner Tonight
I made the Marcella Hazan three ingredient spaghetti sauce recipe, but I added a bunch of ground up Chiltepines and a couple of spicy Italian sausages. It's amazing, and required an extremely small amount of efort.

Re: Dinner Tonight
If you're making a Roman carbonara, Rincon Market carries guanciale now. Best pancetta in town, too (Salumi, from Seattle - $33 a pound). But they also have a "smoked pancetta", which no Roman or any other Italian would touch, but it's perfect with runny eggs and pecorino romano.ASUHATER! wrote:Pretty sure I'm gonna make a real Italian style carbonara this week

I've been eating a lot of "chopped" salads lately but using coleslaw mix. Spicy Thai chicken peanut, grilled chicken with tahini garlic dressing etc.
I find I like cabbage more than most lettuce.

Not dinner, lunch rather, at a place in Page Springs outside of Sedona: poblano, arugula, chipotle aioli cheese burger with chili powder sweet potato fries and a Barbera from Asti . Goddamn it! it's good to be an American with the juice of indulgence running down your forearms!

Publican restaurant on Fulton in Chicago. Delicious, leisurely happy hour with some Czech beer, Belgian lambic, and a plate of oysters, cheese, salami, head cheese, pate, pickles, mustard, sausage and more...

I love Publican. Great food. I’m not usually a fan of big restaurants but it’s perfect just as it is.

Haven't been there in a decade or more but every time was really good. Sumptuous veal is all I specifically recall, that and some bodacious babe/owner.

Grilled French bread, a hockey puck of Brie, blueberries, sliced yellow peppers, sliced cucumber, sun dried tomatoes, walnuts, dried cranberries, a red blend of questionable provenance......and now an equally pedestrian Merlot. Hope the Ducks struggle, look like shit and barely beat the Tigers.

I remember telling my daughter, 15 at the time, that guanciale was "bacon" in the amatraciana and carbonara in Rome last summer.

I need more things my kids will like. Right now we are in a stage where their preferences are very specific. One likes red sauce on his string pasta and butter & Parmesan on ravioli/tortellini while the other only likes pesto. One likes pizza and burgers, the other likes tacos and hot dogs. They both like sushi but I’m not making that at home. And they have to be eased into anything new.
Next week the wife is gone on business. Thinking about going nuts and whipping up some obscure shit they’ll turn up their noses at but I’ll enjoy. When they get hungry enough by day 3 maybe they’ll get more adventurous.

When in the Verde Valley, go to Oldtown Cottonwood's Bocce Pizza for the best crust around. Only open for lunch on weekends, though. The place literally prints currency.

I did everything wrong tonight in part due to an delicious huge sandwich that I had late afternoon.
Dinner: pea soup Anderson’s, canned pea soup. Just a small bowl. A tbsp or two of Hummus and half a tortilla.
2hrs later, 1/3 white cake with buttercreme frosting from a party yesterday.
1 hr later, Two hotdogs wrapped in a tortilla with mustard.

I'm making something between a Navajo mutton stew, a Scotch broth, and a Welsh cawl.
I browned some marrow bones, which I'm now simmering in some water before I add mutton leg meat, barley, celery root, carrots, onions, and leeks.
