We'll get hit, but there's actual evidence of KU's head coach asking these Adidas guys for help and basically having knowledge of the shenanigans. None of that exists in regards to Sean Miller. KU was an easy choice to get slammed hard regardless of the media's lack of spotlight on them.

The outrage will be that it's not Arizona getting knifed, since we're all anyone has heard about.

Kansas City Star probably gave Vitale a heads up the article was coming out and asked him for a comment on AZ

Yeah our hit will fall under ethics, no question. How much of a penalty that will amount to is truly the question.

I am beginning to think Vitale got tipped to the KU accusation and that’s why he suddenly took the stance of no more comments until after the NCAA weighs in.

Please no post-season ban...I think this has been brought up before, but is there an element of "time served" that we can argue with the NCAA? Considering how our entire 2018 class was blown up, team struggled as a result of the distraction in 2018, team sucked in 2019 largely as a result, etc. I think we have a compelling case in that regard, certainly moreso than any other program.

I'm not sure what the grading curve is for "ethics" in the NCAA rulebook but the fact that Book was terminated post haste and UA has been fully cooperating, Miller has strong records of compliance and our own investigation, the FBI AND the NCAA came up with no institutional wrongdoing makes me wonder at the level of outrage that we will see from the pundits and EatShitPN's spin machine...

I fully expect words like "travesty", "He got away with it", "cheater", "miscarriage of justice" and of course the ever popular "The NCAA is corrupt and useless"

We should go ahead and make out our sports reporter bingo cards now, Pat Forde/Jay (not a fucking lawyer)Bilas, Dick (senile shitpile) V, Andy (I hate UA) Katz and Dana ("can I make up more shit about you now?") O'Neil can be the vertical lines and the phrases above can be the horizontal...

I can already get bingo from past articles.

Yup. Arizona is the media face, but KU was the focus of that first trial. The actual evidence with them dwarfs us.

Of course, now that one of Vitale’s precious blue blood programs is getting hit, he is going underground. He probably assumed KU would skate like UNC did a couple years ago..

I'm honestly not sure that people are aware of the evidence here.

NC State has text messages showing their coach and assistant coaches directing payments and benefits to recruit Dennis Smith Jr.

Kansas has Bill Self and his assistant Kurtis Townsend coordinating recruiting with Adidas consultant T.J. Gassnola, and connecting Gassnola's ability to deliver recruits with Kansas's contract with Adidas :!: . They put Adidas into contact with the guardian of Silvio De Sousa and signed an extension with Adidas once they received De Sousa's commitment. KU found wire transfer payments between Gassnola and recruit Billy Preston's mom in Oct '18 and the FBI found texts where Gassnola and the Preston family coordinated testimony to lie to investigators.

Bill Self is still the coach at Kansas and Kurtis Townsend is still his assistant.

Yes. There's a disconnect between people who followed the trials and people who receive their info from the news and don't look further.

The actual evidence is (unsurprisingly) much more about Adidas schools and their connections.

No there's not. But you have an Arizona coach who would have direct knowledge accuse Miller of paying recruits.

WHICH the FBI deemed NOT CREDIBLE...what part of that are you failing to comprehend????

One part (KU) has actual evidence, the other part (Books testimony) was determined by the nations leading evidence collecting agency to be NOT CREDIBLE...

You keep pretending like Books lies are truth, do you get there's a difference yet?

No, you don't get it because you refuse to accept facts.

Why can't you just accept the fact that Book Richardson LIED about that?

There is no evidence at all that he told the truth...none...nada...it was investigated and found to be a lie.

Book said it so it must be true. Self said it in a text transcript but it’s false? Wow that is some major rationalization and self deception

“During closing arguments in a federal criminal case in New York last October, an attorney for former Adidas executive James Gatto told a jury that his client approved a $20,000 payment to current Kansas player Silvio De Sousa's guardian only after Self and Jayhawks assistant Kurtis Townsend requested the payment through Gassnola.
"The evidence, I submit, shows that Kansas' head coach knew of and asked for a payment to be made to Silvio De Sousa's handler," attorney Michael Schachter told the jury. "More than that, Coach Self requested just the kind of help that Mr. Gassnola arranged as a condition for Coach Self to permit Adidas to continue their sponsorship agreement with the University of Kansas."

What a joke. Like you.

While Schlabach and the other ESPN media personalities were busy chasing ghosts with Arizona, this evidence was out there on the public record. Amazing that they’ve only just now written the damning article putting it all together.

Why hasn't ESPN plastered its website with giant photos of Bill Self and damning headlines? You have to click on a little link with a benign-sounding title on the right side of the NCAAM page, and then read through all the damning details presented with the light tone of an article about how rabbits make a fine pet for a little boy.

It's a different flavor from the substance-free articles about Sean Miller, heralded with condemning headlines and big photos of Miller carefully selected to make him look like a cold-hearted crook.

All of this. Also, while it pains me to say it, KU is a higher profile program than AZ at the moment (more recent FF and NC); too many league titles to count. After Duke, UNC, and UK, there is arguably no bigger college hoops program than KU, so not seeing this covered as a major story is some crazy shit.

ESPN is not in the journalism business.

They are in the advertising revenue sports entertainment business.

Kind of hard to say “watch this bunch of cheaters on the ESPN family of networks 30+ times this year”.

As a "journalistic" entity, ESPN is no more, or less, than the FoxNews of the sporting world. Propaganda for the moneyed ruling classes; entertainment and commentary masquerading as serious BS.

I hope Kansas doesn't get the official word for a few more days. Watching enfuego act like this is no big deal is too damn entertaining.

The University of Kansas has received its notice of allegations from the NCAA today, which includes potentially devastating allegations toward the men’s basketball program, according to multiple sources.

Kansas has been charged with lack of institutional control, three Level I violations in men’s basketball and there is a head coach responsibility charge against coach Bill Self, according to multiple sources. There also are allegations against football, sources added, although those are Level II violations. The football allegations include charges of allowing an extra coach to work during practice under former head coach David Beaty.

The Level I violations are tied, in part, to the recruitments of Billy Preston and Silvio De Sousa. Court testimony and documents tied to the federal basketball corruption cases over the past two years included details of veteran adidas consultant T.J. Gassnola having “conspired to illicitly funnel approximately at least $90,000” to the mother of Preston. Gassnola also testified in court that he paid De Sousa’s guardian $2,500, although he denied arranging a $20,000 payment that had been discussed on wiretaps.

The charge against Self will potentially prove a compelling and high-profile application of the NCAA’s head coach responsibility bylaws. Evidence tied to the case included Gassnola and Self talking openly in text messages about adidas helping Kansas recruit players. “I’m happy with adidas,” Self wrote Gassnola. “Just got to get a couple real guys.”

Later, Gassnola texted about keeping Self and Kansas happy with lottery picks. Self responded: “That’s how (it) works. At UNC and Duke.”
Of course the football allegations are Level 2. That program doesn’t try hard at anything. But kudos to Bill Self for going for the gold...
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

Well, you can't charge a Level 1 violation when your football team belongs in Division 2.

This KU basketball thing...it's what people following the trial would expect. The texts from Self to Gassnola were pretty blatant.

They ought to be super fucked. Lack of institutional control... Self personally directed an Adidas fixer to bring him more basketball recruits and he tied Adidas bringing him recruits to the contract between Kansas and Adidas. Self didn't lack control, he put the violations in motion.

The texts from Self to Adidas are a level we lack in our case. Book said a lot of stuff, but Self straight out encouraged Adidas and Gassnola to help him.

If Self wants to claim the "help" was something else, well, it seems like deliberate ignorance.

If I'm Self I know my line of defense is that I wanted to make sure Adidas was getting kids into their AAU pipeline so they'd develop an affinity for the brand, and thus the flagship Adidas school would be more appealing to them. It's clearly not what he meant, but I'd try to make the NCAA prove me wrong.

"We outsourced our recruiting to Adidas and it's not our fault that they broke the rules (and law) to get the job done" ...should be a really top shelf defense.

Maybe he meant help ensuring their sneakers had ample support so they wouldn’t have ankle issues prior to them choosing Kansas over other programs because of the culture, diversity, and academic prowess of the Harvard of the Central Plains?

Sure, let’s just go with that...
