Chris Sale is 0-4 with a +8 ERA. The Boston starting staff as a whole has a 7.18 ERA.*

What would it take for you to give up Albert Pujols' 2,000 RBI ball?
Pujols' statement:
"He can keep it," Pujols said. "It's a great memory for him. I mean we play this game for the fans, and it's a piece of history that he's going to have for the rest of his life."
Guy is all class.

Nothing. If he wanted to give me a signed bat or something that would be cool, but I’d just give it to him if he wanted it. Or to the Hall of Fame.azgreg wrote:What would it take for you to give up Albert Pujols' 2,000 RBI ball?
Now, if it was Derek Jeter’s 3,000th hit? I’d ask for a whole bunch of stuff. Bats, balls, jerseys, Minka Kelly’s phone number, the use of his yacht for a party, a bunch of tickets to games, the chance to punch ARod in the junk, etc...

Rays got permission from MLB to explore playing half the season in a new, smaller stadium in Tampa/St Pete and the other half in a new stadium in Montreal.

It would probably be like 28k and no dome.
I do have questions...
What are the labor/economic implications of an organization shifting entirely from one country to another every year?
Would players be ok with a double life? As someone pointed out, every game where your wife and kids are in a different city is a road game.
If they make the playoffs, are they coming back to Tampa? The plan as being discussed is for them to finish the season in Montreal.
If games are rained out in Tampa, would they be made up in Montreal? Even only playing into June in Tampa, there will be plenty of rain.

You would think someone would have noticed it was the weekend the Yankees & Dodgers were playing and nixed it. Or that when the umpires reminded them that pitchers can’t wear white caps, there might have been some re-thinking.
But nope!
Had professional baseball players out there looking like a beer league softball team. Disgraceful...

I went to the Braves game tonight. Incredible atmosphere. Really wasn’t expecting just how crazy and loud their fans get.
If you get the chance to see an MLB playoff game, don’t hesitate. Just go. It’s awesome.

Gerrit Cole is probably the best pitcher in baseball and is a free agent after the season ends. He is 29 and making $13.5 million. He is probably not going to resign with the Astros and receive a huge long-term contract from one of the big market teams after the season is overChicat wrote:The Stros are on their way to repeating what the Cards did to the Braves.

Orange County kid, grew up in Villa Park about 15mins from Angels stadium, Orange Lutheran & UCLA grad - its been talked about the entire year that everyone here expects him to come home...and the opportunity to now live in Newport Beach on the relo aint too bad either, or better yet upgrade even further to Irvine Cove next to Mike Trout.
might be the only thing in the Yankees way.
hey, i know a guy

Yankees drafted him out of high school but couldn’t sign him. They want another shot at him BAD.
By the way, how terrible are the Pirates at developing and keeping pitchers?

Re: 2019 MLB Season Thread
its easy to see why - hes so dominant, and is a rare true front-line ace in his real prime at 29 - history shows he has 6-8 more great years ahead of him if he stays healthy.Chicat wrote:Yankees drafted him out of high school but couldn’t sign him. They want another shot at him BAD.
hes hit the 200+ inning mark four of the last five years
the fact that the fate of the AL divisional series last night was decided by two former Pirates says it all - and as a Pittsburgh native, thats all i have to say about that.Chicat wrote:By the way, how terrible are the Pirates at developing and keeping pitchers?

Sorry to pick at that scab Jon.
Talk radio here in Chicago has the Cubs & White Sox backing up the Brinks truck to get him too. Kid might end up getting an NBA-style contract when all is said and done.

Re: 2019 MLB Season Thread
He is definitely going to a big market team. As far as the Cubs go, to get Cole they are going to have to get rid of some high salary players and not resign others (like Cole Hamels). Theo Epstein says there is going to be a lot of changes this season. Personally, I think the biggest need for the Cubs is to spend money shoring up their bullpen. Of course the Hamels and Quintana are free agents unless resigned, and Lester is getting old. So they may need starting pitchers to go along with Darvish and Hendricks.Chicat wrote:Sorry to pick at that scab Jon.

again i think he is well worth it too, and a month ago i woulda said he was a commodity but likely to come home - now after this legendary October showing he is basically writing his ticket.Chicat wrote:Sorry to pick at that scab Jon.

i do believe whats transpired here in October will push him above the $30m annual clip joining Kershaw and Price wherever hes does end up signing.

I think he gets close to $40mil per - like 6 for $240. That's how crazy it will be in the offseason.
On a separate note my high school - Harvard-Westlake - got a ton of pub during the Braves-Cards series. Flaherty & Freid were pitchers there.

Re: 2019 MLB Season Thread
The Nationals are looking unstoppable right now. When your #4 starter throws a one hitter to start the series against the Cards, and Scherzer follows up with no-hit ball for most of the game, you know Washington is in the zone. Scherzer, Strasburg, Corbin, and Sanchez has to be the best starting staff left. Rendon is the best 3rd basemen and maybe the hottest player in baseball right now. Kendrick is on fire too. The Yankees and Astros are top notch teams but don't sleep on the Nationals. They are rolling.

Re: 2019 MLB Season Thread
my least favorite player in major league baseball is Bryce Harper - he goes about ALL his business (top to bottom) in the exact opposite way i feel a player is supposed to go about his business.
Rougned Odor is next in line on the dislike train but thats because hes a dirty POS.

Nats looking like a team of destiny. So much easier to root for them with Harper gone.
3 of the first 6 starters are all ex-Dbacks. FML
Wildcats Kevin Long and Chip Hale coaching for the Nats as well.
And the Astros GM is a douche

Astros dont have a single left handed pitcher. Last team to win the World Series without a lefty was 1903.
Also the Nats used their #1 and 3 pitchers last night as well as 3 key relievers. Won by 1. This is going to be a great series

Giving Strasburg a 2 run lead in the first isn't a good way to win ball games.
