Nice to see PAC players doing well, outside of Burfict anyway.
That safety almost ran him down though, also impressive.

Re: 2019 NFL Season Thread
The fix was in!
(WXYZ) — Detroit Lions fans are raging Tuesday morning against the referees in Detroit's 23-22 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football. The main focus of the calls are two hands-to-the-face penalties against DE Trey Flowers.
The first one came with about 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter and Detroit comfortably ahead 22-13. The flag negated a sack of Aaron Rodgers that might have sealed Green Bay's fifth straight loss to the Lions and instead led to Allen Lizard's 35-yard TD catch that made it 22-20.
The second one came on a third-down incompletion by Rodgers which would have forced the Packers to kick a field goal with about 90 seconds left, plenty of time for Detroit to respond with its own field goal drive. Instead, the Packers ran the clock down to 2 seconds before Mason Crosby kicked the game-winning 23-yarder as time expired, then did his very first Lambeau Leap.

Re: 2019 NFL Season Thread
The NFL is having a real moment here because they have an unfortunate mix of refs who are too old to follow the action competently and refs who are too inexperienced for the game to have slowed down enough to see everything they need to see.
Unfortunately, there’s no fixing that with personnel changes. Are they going to fire refs and hire people with even less experience? The only option might be to coax some refs out of retirement to be in a booth above the action watching replays as they happen.

how a league as prominent, profitable, and popular as the NFL does not have full time officials is still one of the great mysteries of our time.

I realize many people think professors only work four hours a week because they only teach two classes, but I already understand why that's wrong.

the same thing the rest of the people in their profession do - prepare, prep, and study the game so they are informed, educated, fit, and on point with all the rules, regulations, all new standards and intimately involved with each weeks assignments, participants, conditions, and specific tendencies.Longhorned wrote: What would they do the other six days a week? Judging by twitter and talk radio, Mitch Trubisky should probably not show his face at any hot spots around town.

I feel bad for Trubisky in a way. Nobody in the world expected the bears to be morons and trade draft picks to move from 3rd to 2nd and pick him at a spot in the draft he shouldn't have gone at.Chicat wrote:Judging by twitter and talk radio, Mitch Trubisky should probably not show his face at any hot spots around town.

As bad as Tate is reading the RPO, Tate could have found at least one of the 2 wide open receivers.
Just terrible defense leaving 2 guys wide open like that.

The Bears 100% went into that draft already in panic mode. Trading three future picks to move up one freakin’ spot to draft a guy who had started only one season at a mid-level program was by far the dumbest fucking thing ever.PieceOfMeat wrote:I feel bad for Trubisky in a way. Who was available at 3? Christian McCaffery and Leonard Fournette. “But we don’t need a running back. We’ve got Jordan Howard!”
Ok fine (although Howard is no longer a Bear). You really want a QB then take Patrick Mahomes or Deshaun Watson. “But we can’t take them that high! They’re fringe first rounders at best and don’t fit our system.”
Then trade down to the middle of the round and hope they are still there. “Nope, this guy has a real Chicago type name and all the fans will be yelling Troooooooobisky so let’s trade up and really fuck ourselves in the chocolate starfish.”

holy shit the refs in the bears/eagles game are bad enough to be pac12 refs.
apparently eagles WR's are allowed to shove off the defending corner's face mask to create separation.
wish i could find a video clip but at the moment I can't

The “if this happened off the field he’d be facing assault charges” trope is an interesting one to me.
You know what else would get you an assault charge if you did it outside of a football game? Tackling someone.

Tackling is an expected part of football. Swinging a helmet at an unprotected head as a weapon is not.

Ok, so what about helmet to helmet hits? That’s an action intended to seriously hurt someone outside of the rules and expectations of the sport.ASUHATER! wrote:Tackling is an expected part of football. Swinging a helmet at an unprotected head as a weapon is not.
15 yard penalty and a police escort to the station to be brought up on charges?
No fight is “an expected part of football” but when two idiots start punching each other’s face masks no one talks about assault. Hell, Kyle Long pulled a Myles Garrett in the preseason against his own teammate and no one talked about assault. But let it happen on national television...

So Lamar Jackson is the MVP right? As of now during this Rams game he is 200/299 passing (67%) for 24 tds and 5 ints and has run 124 times for 876 yards (7 yards per carry) and 6 tds.

Right now, sure. Some tough games coming up for him though starting next week against San Fran and having to go to Buffalo and Cleveland. Apparently the Bengals caught the Patriots filming their playcalling during the Browns game Sunday and tried to disguise it by saying they were filming their advance scout for some team video feature. But when they played the tape it was the Bengals coaches.

Re: 2019 NFL Season Thread
someone will have to explain to me why the nfl allows some flags to be reviewed.....but the "kick catch interference" call can't be.
cause the refs just had a huge impact in the packers/bears game. took away a forced fumble and recovery by the bears with a bull shit call that was wrong in live speed and egregiously wrong in replay. then they give green bay ridiculous field position with the penalty yardage, that of course packers use to their advantage for a td drive.
don't get me wrong. it's not gonna affect the outcome of the game cause....well.....bears suck, but still. that's bad.
edit:
turns out it actually did affect the outcome. never thought the bears would make a game of it but they certainly did. and instead of being down 8 they would have been down 1 with a final drive that had a chance.
well good job ref$
