Don’t care about takeoff.
Landing terrifies me to the point of closing my eyes, holding my breath, and telepathically telling my children goodbye and I love them.

It's understandable. But why die stressed out over the conclusion of a decision made days beforehand?

I'm the opposite, it's take off that freaks me out. I get more stressed about flying the more I do it. 10 years ago it was all fun and fascinating. Now I'm uncomfortable and stress out.Chicat wrote:Don’t care about takeoff.

Re: The Random Thoughts Thread
I had a band landing once. Crosswind hit as soon as we touched down, kicked the right wing up and I thought the left wing was going to dig into the runway and we were going to start cartwheeling. The pilot pulled us up out of the landing and successfully aborted. People were screaming and crying. It was horrible.

I've been flying for many decades. But now matter how long, nor how frequent, nothing has made the experience of flying natural for me. I look around the plane and everyone is languid and bored. They all seem oblivious to everything that fills me with wonder and dread.
When I fall asleep on transatlantic flights, I invariably wake up from a dream that we're crashing into the ocean.

The older I get the more stressed I am about flying.
Re: The Random Thoughts Thread
Hit a wind sheer into Denver and we bounced like a basketball off the runway. The pilot pulled us up and we all wondered why and we circled and had to land again. I can tell you that was very uncomfortable

Re: The Random Thoughts Thread
Never have had an OMFG moment in fixed wing flight but my very first chopper ride was mind-altering. Four crew plus pilot in a Bell 206 trying to stick a rock outcrop mountain top LZ in midsummer Idaho 1976. After the fourth abort I asked the pilot if something was wrong. Dude was dripping white as fucking pasta and took a full 20 seconds before he answered...."We're. just. barely. in. the. air." He stuck the landing on the next pass, but I thought my own mind would destroy me first.

I once jumped off a tall cliff into a lake. On my way down, it hit me that I hadn’t determined in advance how deep the water was. My emotion: just embarrassment. All I hurt was my arm, which wasn’t straight enough on entry.

Also I'm sure being older and fatter makes me more uncomfortable in general. So I have a higher likelyhood to despair about anticipating an engine fire on take off where we nose over and explode.

True.
For some reason though the plane always feels like it loses lift and drops 100ft on final final approach into ohare when it gets hit by wind and I always freak about hitting the warehouse roofs on the southern approach.
And yet 2 seconds later wheels touch. It’s crazy.

Should be a capital offense:
Phoenix man arrested for threatening victim, stealing burrito

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -- A Phoenix man has been arrested after police say he stole another man's burrito.
Court documents state that the victim called police when 29-year-old Timothy Bell took his burrito from him while threatening him. The victim stayed on the phone with police and followed Bell until officers arrived at 12th Avenue and Van Buren Street.
Police stopped Bell and found the burrito wrapper on him. He was taken into custody and booked on one count of felony robbery.

If a really edgy hard rock band named themselves 'Luncheon' and then got an enormous following, would restaurants have to stop using the term because it would no longer appeal to old ladies?

One of the founding members of the indie band Girls was so pissed off that the writers and producers of the HBO show Girls didn’t give him proper credit for inspiring the show that he broke up the band. Beyond the name, there really wasn’t any actual connection either way.

Instead of UArizona they should go by: THEE University of Arizona.
If ASU gets penalized they should forced to be called "Tempe Normal" again.

Sadly almost all the WW2 vets are long gone. Only 2 survivors left from the USS Arizona.
What's even sadder is that many Americans now prefer a fascist government here.

The Italians voted in the Fascists in, with along other reasons, is that they were tired of the strikes. People wanted their garbage picked up. Don't recall that problem here, outside of a booming economy, a black president and more people getting healthcare.
