UA Rec Center Men's Locker room, third stall down. There's a "blessed" sticker on the inside of the door.

I've probably taken more than 500 dumps here and that's no exaggeration.

German court rules that men can urinate while standing

A court in Germany has ruled in favour of a man's right to urinate while standing up after his landlord demanded money for damage to the bathroom floor.

The landlord, who was seeking €1,900 (£1400; $2,200), claimed the marble floor had been damaged by urine.

But the Duesseldorf judge ruled that the man's method was within cultural norms, saying "urinating standing up is still common practice".

There is some debate in Germany about whether men should sit or stand to pee.

Some toilets have red traffic-style signs forbidding the standing position - but those who choose to sit are often referred to as a "Sitzpinkler", implying it is not masculine behaviour.

Judge Stefan Hank agreed with an expert's report that uric acid had caused some damage to the bathroom's floor.

But concluding, he said men who insist on standing "must expect occasional rows with housemates, especially women" but cannot be held to account for collateral damage.

"Despite growing domestication of men in this matter, urinating while standing up is still common practice," he added.

My go to spot as well, and though I didn't have a choice stall, I preferred the one against the wall.

I used the top floor of the student union on the west side. Always v clean.

My last year there (09) my favorite place was downstairs in the ILS building. There was a stall all the way at the end that was dubbed "the stall of hate" for all of the racial remarks that were written on the wall. Staff would clean it and the next day there would be more. It was the most entertaining dump on campus.

Worst place during my time there (81-85) was the basement locker room in Bear Down gym.

It was just a row of toilets. No stalls. Looked like something right out of a WW2 army barracks.

Never could go there.

First floor in Sierra dorm (East Stadium) was the same way. Brutal. Glad I lived on the second floor that had stalls.

The troughs in McKale weren't just as bad to you?

There was a hidden bathroom in Bear Down on the second floor. I would use it whenever I had to in the building, but the whole experience was just like going in your grandparents' old house.

Something about that building gave me the creeps, a feeling which extended into the basement of Herring Hall and a couple other of the early-20th century structures. The outmoded bathrooms there in the '90s did not assist any in relaxing my bowels.

Had a meeting in the ENR2, a new building right next to the 6th Street garage. I went into one of the bathrooms on the first floor and it is probably the cleanest at the UofA.

As for the worst, the bathroom on the lower level next to The Cellar in the old Student Union. The toilets always seemed to be overflowing.

ENRB2 is the holy grail of shitters on campus. Plus there's loading and service parking right out front for easy access.

I've always wondered if top administrators like the chancellor or the Provost get their own office toilet to crap in. I know that deans don't, but I'm not important enough to have ever met with the top administrator in his office.

At least that many. Between students, staff, faculty and visitors there has to be at least 50-60 thousand people on campus during weekdays. I'd bet it's 20k dumps if not more.

There are various ways to tackle the problem. But personally I find the toilet in a closet thing that developer houses tend to have to be problematic on a number of levels.

First, they are claustrophobic spaces when you close the door.

And second . . . really, Americans, you need to step up your asshole hygiene. In one way or another, the rest of the world doesn’t walk around with skid marks in their underwear because they clean their assholes with something other than dry toilet paper. Japan has the robot toilets that whisk the shit away and then scrub your asshole for you. Europe has bidets. The Middle East has water sprayers next to every toilet. And when middle easterners travel to the US, they all come up with some mechanism to deal with our lack of butt-hole hygiene. Many will carry a water bottle in with them. Or they resort to plumbing-destroying wet wipes.

In the absence of any of the above strategies, it’s not the worst thing when the toilet is near a sink so you can wet some TP for final cleaning. The truly luxurious master suites usually don’t have this arrangement. Because Americans like to shit in a closet and dry wipe their asses. I guess?

The answer is to get rid of all those early morning flights to the east coast. Those are literally the only scenario where people don't have a chance to shit before they leave the house. At home, you don't even need toilet paper. The shower is right there.

The deplorable quality of toilet paper overseas is one contributing factor, but unfortunately OCONUS citizens spare watering the balance of the body in favor of watering the asshole, and it's obvious in the cloud of gagging ripeness that follows them around. If you put a gun to my head I'd much prefer the horror of knowing there's a ton of skidmarks wandering the streets unseen than to have no choice but to post up against a well dressed businessman who smells like roadkill cured for two weeks in a diaper. Americans are rude but we love our dogs and we let them do the asshole sniffing for us. I guess that's where rim jobs came from originally.

I’d rather not have to make the choice—I personally like clean assholes AND clean underarms. These things aren’t mutually exclusive concepts.

As a side note, the cliche of the smelly European dates back to the 70s. In the last 20 years, I haven’t experienced anymore deodorant-phobic people in Europe than I have in the US. And certainly not Japan. The Middle East is mostly the same. Sub-continental Asia is another matter entirely, but I also wonder how much of that is cultural versus socio-economic.

One of my brothers used to travel to 3rd world companies for a Tucson based company that put GPSs in mining vehicles. He said in Indonesia they had side by side toilets, flush toilets for westerners, and for the locals they just had a hole in the ground where they would squat over it. Only the western side had toilet paper. The locals side just had a tub full of water where you cleaned your fingers afterwards.

So I'd stay in my bedroom and squat over a gallon-sized sealable bag, and then stuff that in a paper bag and carry it out of the house in my backpack so I could deposit it in a public trash bin.
