Any chance they could get Dino Babers out of Syracuse?

Someone on radio today mentioned a Packers assistant. Nutcracker or Nantucket or something like that.

Seems like it will be hard to pay 3 HC at one time.

How much do they still owe RR?

How much of Stoops’ issues were related to his coaching ability and how much was due to his marital problems getting in the way of coaching?

And how much to his psychotic nature? {hence my caveat about not hiring psychotic assistant coaches}

But was his psychotic nature caused by his marital problems or the other way around?

I liked how Stoops looked like he’d literally stab a ref if only he had a knife. That kind of rage is rare.

Obviously not. But you don't really fire a second year coach right BEFORE the last game of the season. I keep coming back to this thread hoping his departure after the ASsU game has been announced.

I guess it’s no surprise that when we sent out feelers that interest in our job was very little. We are who we are. Sounds like even an up and comer coordinator doesn’t want this job right now.

WTF are you talking about?

The message was loud and clear. The President knows it, the AD knows it and certainly Sumlin knows it. They would fire him if they could.

For one they would have $5M less to pay Sumlin, and more for the new coach and time to put out feelers.

Although I imagine the UA would get more coaches turning down the position than UCLA did for their basketball program.

UA football is a career killer, and has been right after Larry Smith left for USC.

Who knows? Imagine you're a booster and Dave Heeke calls you and says he needs money to move on from a train wreck and hire a better coach and then shortly after Heeke tells you that he doesn't have confidence he can hire a good coach. Wtf do you tell Dave after that?

2022: $1 million
I heard it from Scheer and on this site: https://tucson.com/sports/arizonawildca ... c92.html#1" target="_blank
Buyout: Arizona must pay Sumlin $10 million if he is fired without cause in the first two years of his deal. The buyout figures drop to $7.5 million in 2020 and $5 million in 2021. Similarly, Sumlin must pay the UA $10 million if he leaves in the first two years of his deal, with those figures dropping to $5 million in Year 3, $3 million in Year 4 and $1 million in Year 5.
I wonder if they post it over at Arizona's official site.

How about "No" Jody?

https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/c ... 157241002/" target="_blank

If it were to happen, however, Oehler brought up a name that could be a possibility: Former ASU coach Todd Graham.

"There are a few options, like this is a name I think every Arizona Wildcats fan is going to dry heave when I mention, but honestly I would be curious to know whether you would make this decision," Oehler said. "You know who is available, who has got a career record of 95-61 and a familiarity with not only the state, but the conference. Todd Graham would probably work for free. Todd Graham would probably sign up for $1.5 million a year and I think at this point Kevin Sumlin has orchestrated this program to fall behind Oregon State. That is not a place that he is likely to come back from."

This guy is touting Joe Salave’a as a possible candidate, but his #1 choice is Ken Niumatalolo

Good thing we just gave him a raise and extension.

ABOR's executive summary of Sumlin's contract.

https://public.azregents.edu/News%20Cli ... em%208.pdf" target="_blank
The contract may be terminated by UA without cause. In that event, UA will pay
Sumlin liquidated damages for each year remaining in the contract, calculated as
the lesser of: (a) the full amount of the base salary payable through the
remainder of the contract term, or (b) $10,000,000 if terminated in Year 1;
$10,000,000 if terminated in Year 2; $7,500,000 if terminated in Year 3;
$5,000,000 if terminated in Year 4; $3,500,000 if terminated in Year 5. In no
event will payment exceed the full amount of base salary that Sumlin would have
received if he were still employed at UA through the end of the contract. These
payment amounts will be offset by any and all amounts Sumlin receives if he is
employed at any other university or professional major league team in a coaching
capacity, or in any television capacity, at any time during the original contract
term.

Yeah I don't see how he gets fired. We're stuck with him for another year. But next year, anything less than 7 wins, preferably including a win over ASU, should mean firing. Also, any kind of bad start of the season should lead to a mid season firing. Like if we start 2-4, he should be out.

If we lose tonight (most probable) and he isn't fired, it will take UA (NOT UArizona) possibly a decade to recover just the loyal fans who bailed this year. And longer to lure back all of the "bad fans".

I totally agree with this. This has been a disaster and it is not working. Not as bad as Mac but look how long that took to dig out of just to be competitive

That football scoop story doesn’t make sense unless Heeke is extremely bad at his job. If weeks ago Heeke knew there wasn’t any good choices and wouldn’t make a move, he should have voiced his support for sumlin right away. Now, If Sumlin isn’t fired, the players, recruits, potential DC, and fans know next year is a waste with Sumlin being fired mid season.

Also, why would Heeke get a raise if all he did was find that there are no choices?

Fuck off Heeke. If you don't have the balls to be the AD at a big boy university, then get the fuck out of town.
