I am giving facts. And the fact is, that U of A is still really good.
I never once said I was okay with losses, but I am using reason to see that U of A is not a bad team. They werent blown out except in the 2nd half vs Oregon State

Two bad losses, and another where they were completely outclassed (Gonzaga) where the final score is no where near indicative of the game.

If the season plays out as I have suggested (3 more road losses and 1 home loss) we won't be anywhere near the top 10 by 3/15........and we will have a very bad Quad 1 record.

This episode of "Everybody Loves Machina" has been brought to you by:
Preparation H Ultra, for that hemorrhoid whose burning and itching shuts down all conversation no matter what you're trying to type about on a message board.
And:
You Thought You Were Rational?!, the board game to enjoy with friends, where every landing space draws a card reminding you that you're emotional and wrong, and where no player reaches the end! You just keep rolling the dice for days, weeks, months, and years until you hurl your body through a window and hope to impale yourself on a bicycle kickstand! Ahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Does anyone have a bottle of grain alcohol, a funnel, and a lighter? I think I'd rather explode my own rectum than deal with this hemorrhoid for another round!!!!

It's long past time to bring this back to the court, let's do it with a small update:
Re: The 2019-2020 Season Thread
What lie? Miller blamed the alumni association and fans for taking too much of the players time and that caused the Cats to lose. Too bad he cant use that excuse for the last four losses at assu.PieceOfMeat wrote:Oh, really?PHXCATS wrote:

In rational factland, Arizona's only even technical shot left at a Top 4 NCAA seed is winning out through the P12 tourney title.
And, as you allude to, Stat, if the Cats drop even one more of those non-Q1 road games, kiss that Hail Mary goodbye.

I really truly hate comparing the past Arizona teams from a different generation with an entirely different head coach and different players with different mentalities to this current generation with its current head coach and its current batch of players with entirely different mentalities. That 2005 team was led by 3 upperclassmen. This 2020 team is led by 3 true freshmen. There's really nothing similar about the 2005 Arizona team and the 2020 Arizona team except the name on the front of the jersey.pc in NM wrote:So, here's a suggestion: BEAR DOWN!!!!!

And, I do think about it, and no that senior-led team offered more optimism at that time, because we had a guy who could singlehandedly take over any game in Salim. We don't have any thing resembling that on this team.
Can we please stop trying to compare every damn team to the '97 team? That's been hashed out ad nauseum about how the make up of that team was superior, they already had ridiculously good wins at that point and the conference was infinitely better than any year that Sean Miller has been our coach. Also that frosh PG is the best PG in Arizona history. I like Nico, but he's not even in the top 5 of our program history at the moment.

Don't forget Kerr, Simon, and Arenas. Nico has talent but he's young. He has a lot to work on. I'm not sure rushing to the NBA is the right move when he can do the same work in Tucson and actually see minutes here.Beachcat97 wrote:BibbyTatetheGreat wrote:Nico is below Bayless and McConnell for me. Nico's nowhere near cracking the top 5, imo. He'd need a HUGE March.

Re: The 2019-2020 Season Thread
Kerr was before my time; thought he was more of a SG, no? Simon was definitely not a PG, nor was Arenas. If we're just ranking guards, that's one thing. But if we're ranking PGs, I stand by my ranking.TatetheGreat wrote:Don't forget Kerr, Simon, and Arenas. Nico has talent but he's young. He has a lot to work on. Agreed he should stay and work on his strength and d. But if he stays he could have what happened to Chase go from being a top 10 pick to not. If hes being projected to go top 10 he should go.TatetheGreat wrote:Don't forget Kerr, Simon, and Arenas. Nico has talent but he's young. He has a lot to work on. Yeah, I don't expect him to stay. I just think he will ride the pine unless the team is actively tanking. His defense is bad as Trae Young's and his offensive game is nowhere close.Lando05 wrote:Agreed he should stay and work on his strength and d. Distinction without a difference imo. Guards/wings/bigs (centers if they can't shoot).Beachcat97 wrote:Kerr was before my time; thought he was more of a SG, no? I think you're looking at Kerr through the lens of modern hoops. We're in the age of "positionless" basketball. Kerr's era still had positions. It was part of the culture of basketball until fairly recently.TatetheGreat wrote:Distinction without a difference imo. Guards/wings/bigs (centers if they can't shoot).
Still, I really couldn't say whether Kerr was more of a PG or SG. I see that he never averaged more than 4 assists per game, which is on the low side for a great PG, but it's also possible Lute's system allowed guards a lot of flexibility to move from a distributor role to a catch-and-shoot role. Not sure.
If we're going to call Kerr a PG, then yes, he's absolutely top 5 in program history.

Re: The 2019-2020 Season Thread
You're right about that. You see a lot of two and three guard lineups in college and it's not clear who is the primary initiator. I think of singular positions like C as kind of a rim protector and rebounder. A SG as more of a shooter and less of a facilitator. But it's much more positionless these days.Beachcat97 wrote:I think you're looking at Kerr through the lens of modern hoops. We're in the age of "positionless" basketball. Re: The 2019-2020 Season Thread
Kerr was the starting PG alongside SG Craig McMillan his junior and senior seasons, after the graduation of Brock Brunkhorst and the transfer of Michael Tait.
Every time this topic comes up, Lute's voice rings in my ears from "Memories '88" (with Dana Cooper): "Before that change, if I heard it once, I heard it a thousand times: 'Steve Kerr is NOT a point guard!'"

Gotta win a couple on the road first.
Arizona State might have the most surprisingly anemic history in men's basketball of any program that you might think is better than it is.

That is crazy that we are so high. With the highs and lows of this team there's no question they could do it, or fall flat on their face. I have irrational confidence in them though lol.TatetheGreat wrote:Sixth best odds to win the natty! You gonna bet on it?PHXCATS wrote:Fifth best team in the nation per Vegas
