I remember being in tears when my cardinals blew a 3-1 lead. I hated Lolich for a long time LOL. Liked that tiger team though, especially Kaline. Loved that he cane to bat one time with a leg from a chair against Nolan Ryan and told the ump it didn’t matter because no one would hit him that day and he was right

^ Fantastic series! Never thought the Tigers could beat Bob Gibson. Or if they did, Denny McClain would do it having 30 wins that season.

My memory is fading for sure.

Forgot Willie Horton, not sure how, and it was Stanley who played SS, Dick McAuliffe played 2B. Don Wert was at 3rd. Jim Northrup played RF.

Yea game 1 Gibson struck out a World Series record 18 tigers. We got to 3-1 and had two at home with one left for Gibby, I thought we were a lock

I won $50 from one of my teachers on that series and he actually paid up! That was a great series.

I moved to Australia in 84 and was really looking forward to a Tigers - Cubs series that year. I almost rescheduled my move so I could try to see some playoff games live - but just couldn't get it done. I was living in San Diego at the time, so I did go up to Anaheim a couple of times to watch the Tiges destroy the Angels.

It really is a shame that the Cubs choked against San Diego that year. The Tigers and Cubs were really evenly matched and I swear it had the makings of one of the great series ever. It was almost pointless to play the Tigers/Padres series - the Padres were over-matched from the get-go.

Edit: Oh, yeah. Al Kaline is one of my all-time baseball heros. There's Al Kaline, Willie Mays, and much distance to everyone else. Maybe Hank Aaron.

Reminds me of an old Mary Tyler Moore episode where she was home writing obits for famous people in the event they do pass they will be ready. They were super giddy, and wrote some silly ones. Then of course someone dies and Ted Baxter reads the joke obit on the air.

Loved Unseld. Dude averaged like 20 and 18 got Louiville for a career and averaged 15 a game in his NBA career. Back when kids became men in college and teams got better through the draft, he improved the bullets from 36 wins to 57 in his first season. Just don’t get why teams don’t do that today? RIP big fella

Report: Famed author Rudolfo Anaya dies

An Albuquerque TV station reported Tuesday that author Rudolfo Anaya — among the state's most respected, influential and well-known authors — died early Sunday.

KOB-TV, quoting Anaya's niece Belinda Henry, said the author of Bless Me Ultima was 82 and had been in declining health.

Anaya, who was born in the small village of Pastura and spent much of his childhood in Santa Rosa, wrote Bless Me Ultima in the 1960s and '70s. Published in 1972, the book — which described life on the llano of New Mexico through the eyes of a young boy and his mentor, the curandera Ultima — is considered a seminal work.

The book was a vanguard of Chicano literature and later was made into a movie.

Anaya was honored at the White House in 2016 as a recipient of the National Humanities Medal. Among his other honors is the National Medal of Arts.

Anaya, who for a time taught in Albuquerque Public Schools and later had an elementary school named in his honor, was a graduate of the University of New Mexico and also taught there.
