Is this under the east side of the stadium? I lived in that dorm my freshman year (Sierra AKA East Stadium).
Re: 2020 Season Thread
Yea it's the zona zoo area, been like that for 2-3 years now. Sierra dorms haven't been around in ages. I started at the UA 16 years ago and the Sierra dorms were long gone by then.UAEebs86 wrote:Is this under the east side of the stadium? i was going to put the ua/asu records here...but i forgot what they were.

Whats going on?? Recruiting has gradually gone down the toilet since Stoops departure. Coaching may be a secondary issue but the primary problem is a lack of talent.Carcassdragger wrote:Fields transferring? Arguably our most productive linebacker for the last 3 seasons. WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON WITH THIS PROGRAM? ?????
It went downhill fast during the RRod era and continued into the Sumlin regime.
I'm not sure if this is a result of assistants who can't recruit, a head coach who can't recruit, or simply laziness across the coaching staff. The recent commitment from a 2 star kid (OL) that we flipped from NIU is a good example. What the hell are we thinking?? Its 6 months until signing day and we can't pursue better prospects??? I'm sure the NIU commit would jump ship in December if he were our only option. I hate to say it but the school built on a garbage dump in Tempe is doing a much better job at program building. They don't seem to be having the issue of competing with MWC/WAC teams for recruits.......and that puzzles me. its not as if Tempe isn't in a desert and isn't hot in September. We should be able to at least recruit slightly below asu's standards. It almost appears that Sumlin is just signing whomever is willing to commit just to get recruiting out of the way. Until we start beating out (at least) mid level PAC12 teams instead of the Wyomings/San Jose States/UTEPs of the world for recruits the situation is not going to improve.

Re: 2020 Season Thread
That's why I keep saying we should never hire head coaches who have been fired, although admittedly I was excited for both RichRod and Sumlin. Even excited for Mackovic since he was COY in 3 different conferences and knew offense, unlike Tomey.
Both RichRod and Sumlin learned that you don't need to work very hard if you get a fat paycheck for getting fired. $10M to Sumlin from aTm, and $6M to RichRod.
Just sit on your past laurels, esp. with one star player. For example, Pat White for RichRod at WVU, and Manziel for Sumlin at aTm.
Sumlin and RichRod are also big drinkers, and why RichRod wouldn't fire Casteel, his drinking buddy, even though Casteel wouldn't recruit.
Work really really hard, and make bank. Or just go through the motions and make bank.
Just hire young hungry coaches from smaller programs. Look how well Larry Smith (Tulane) and Dick Tomey (Hawaii) did, at least Tomey in the early years.

DMJ, I don’t disagree with your take on the talent and coaching/recruiting but that kid we stole from NIU is actually a really good prospect. Dude is a legit 6’6” and length. He will be a multi year starter and if he would have had camps this year he would have been at least a 3 star and had multiple B1G offers.

Re: 2020 Season Thread
Big Sky commissioner really upset about the PAC dropping non-conference games. Just a huge chunk of change for smaller conferences.
Getting almost a mil just to come and get beat down by 2 PAC teams. Not sure how these smaller programs can survive.
https://trojanswire.usatoday.com/2020/0 ... 2JzibTqGK8" target="_blank
“Portland State had non-conference football games scheduled at Arizona (Sept. 5) and at Oregon State (Sept. 19). Those two now-cancelled games would have provided $950,000 in guaranteed compensation to the PSU athletic department budget.
“Wistrcill said he was particularly frustrated that the Pac-12 and others canceled the non-conference games without offering a chance to meet Pac-12 COVID-19 testing standards.
“’I think a lot has been made for the different testing procedures for the virus and how teams are going to prepare for that,’ he said. ‘I think it was disappointing that we weren’t even given the opportunity to meet the standards they set (for testing). Set the money aside, those games are good for everybody.’”

IMO, we should have to buy out of those games or play 10 this year and 14 next. I really don’t understand how we don’t play 11 and have one OOC opener against say a NAU and let Oregon play Portland St. Or ASSU plays NAU Aand we play NM ST. Like a lot of these things it just doesn’t really sound well thought out on it’s impact

It is not about safety, it is about control. With the huge hits in the AD budget, not having to pay PSU $475K is probably the primary reason.PHXCATS wrote:It is not about safety, it is about control. Now PSU will need to cover it from their educational funding, or shut down many athletic programs.
When Stanford shuts down 11 athletic teams with a huge endowment, what is a smaller state institution supposed to do?
Re: 2020 Season Thread
Paying out Portland State for Arizona and other FCS or Power 5 schools for the other PAC-12 teams had nothing to do with the decision. 0.00%Merkin wrote:With the huge hits in the AD budget, not having to pay PSU $475K is probably the primary reason.PHXCATS wrote:It is not about safety, it is about control. Then PSU should sue for breach of contract. They should have to be bought out. These smaller athletic programs will really be hurt by this

Re: 2020 Season Thread
There are clauses in the contracts that should the games be cancelled due to a variety of reasons that special considerations will be made. I expect U of A will give something to Portland State but obviously not the full $450,000azcat49 wrote:Then PSU should sue for breach of contract. They should have to be bought out. Maybe they are planning two games with the rival? Have heard talk about that earlier to give an extra game.
Re: 2020 Season Thread
Does this mean play them twice or just play them early rather than last?

But I'm coming at this from a student point of view. These players are students first. If Universities are all basically saying students can not congregate due to fears of health and community spread... it is completely hypocritical to allow this to happen. They know the dangers... but are putting these STUDENTS in danger (and the community) because of $$$$.
End of story.
