I think Kerr is the better player vs Baker, but his frame is going to hold him back from starting (off the bat at least). Terry is just a guess over Mathurin, that could go either way, with the possibility of both starting next to each other as the season goes on as well. I’m pegging Terry there as he’s a great passer to compliment Akinjo’s ball dominant style. As far as reserves go Kerr, Brown, Mathurin, Lee, and Koloko. I have no idea how Batcho can get minutes on this team.
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

Jinx!
I imagine a medical redshirt is in order for Batcho, or a regular one. Maybe he can opt out at no penalty due to Covid.

It doesn't look like he'll be reevaluated until Jan/Feb, and I doubt he's back this year under any circumstances. I think you have to wait until after the season to apply for a medical redshirt, but I doubt it matters. He's on the 5 to play 4 track regardless of how it's done.

With his history of knee problems, I wonder if it wouldn't behoove him to take the medical redshirt, since in the event of another injury, he may get a 6th year. Who knows though with the Covid-19 world though.

This is no insider info, but I have a tough time imagining a guy from France building a contingency for 6 years at an American college. Again, I have no real world info, but it's hard for me to imagine Batcho not wanting to move on somewhere after 5 years in Tucson.
Heck, I worry more he would just go home for a pro career to maximize his earning potential before injuries derail all of it.

Re: The 2020-2021 Season Thread
Per the Pac-12 website, all of our games in November and December will be on P12N. For those who've complained about our schedule (despite the Covid issues), you get a few data points of validation. UCLA has a neutral court game in Cleveland against Kentucky on CBS. Also, ASU replaced Michigan when they pulled out of a tournament in Connecticut. So, they'll play Baylor on ESPN, followed (probably) by Villanova, also on ESPN. And Colorado will play at Kansas St on ESPNU. But, that's pretty much it non-conference. Other than that, teams are either playing local small-fries on P12N, or they just don't have many games scheduled, period. Once we get into conference play, I'm pretty sure there will be wider exposure. The Oregon at UCLA game at the end of December is on ESPN2.IndianaZonaFan wrote: ↑Thu Nov 19, 2020 6:47 am Is there anything that at least has what station each game will be on?

Re: The 2020-2021 Season Thread
Some talking head pointed out recently that they thought Arizona would be a sub-top 50 team and pointed to the non-con schedule - that if we thought we were tough shit we'd play tough opponents... looking at it myself, I can't say I disagree that our opponents are trash. I'm sure Miller wants to give these guys time to gel given the turnover, but our resume will look like booty until we get into the Pac-12. And then we're relying on the Pac-12 being quality and winning those games. Fun stuff.TheCatInTheHat wrote: ↑Thu Nov 19, 2020 12:03 pmPer the Pac-12 website, all of our games in November and December will be on P12N. Re: The 2020-2021 Season Thread
It's hard to play a decent OOC schedule when you're doing it all at home. I'm not sure it's anything beyond coronavirus. Zaga pulled out on us, the Preseason NIT imploded, and those were the majority of our good opponents.
It does hurt SOS, but I don't think it was super possible to fill those spots at this point with particularly good teams. Our tourney hopes are pretty Pac dependent, but the Pac has some teams that will get respect.

Re: The 2020-2021 Season Thread
West coast teams were always going to be hamstrung by Covid due to travel difficulties. If you're Villanova there are any number of high quality teams within 250 miles of your campus to go and play. If you're Arizona? That's a big fat nope.
Anyone involved with ranking teams needs to keep that in their consideration. In a normal year our non-con schedule would be shit. But what are we supposed to do?

This is not the year to give a shit about your team's weak OOC schedule.

Re: The 2020-2021 Season Thread
I would typically agree that "it's just COIVD + west coast" but comparatively we've got one of the weakest OOC in the Pac-12. Maybe just coincidence.

We had Gonzaga and Illinois Plus the preseason NIT. Lost all due to covid. Not our fault.

Re: The 2020-2021 Season Thread
I think our desire to play at home is the third factor. A lot of the other Pac teams kept decent games by committing to travel, which we did not, citing Covid.
Colorado going to KSU and UCLA going to SDSU are a few examples. Zaga was our big true away game, and they would have pulled out regardless. It's just a bad year. Hope the vaccine(s) come and work soon.
Edit: the way P12 football is going, I'd be ok if we wind up playing all our games without suspensions due to Covid.

Fudge. That's why I can't get too worried about the SOS of our nonconference slate. I'll be happy if we get in the required # of games to be tourney eligible. Beyond that, it's icing on the cake.ChooChooCat wrote: ↑Mon Nov 23, 2020 10:20 am Welp first game against NAU has been postponed. NAU has a positive COVID test.

Re: The 2020-2021 Season Thread
College hoops doesn't seem to be doing things remotely similar to how the NBA did their bubble, and now we're seeing the result. Student-athletes presumably can't be isolated/quarantined and subjected to the same degree of safety protocols as the pros, so it's reasonable to expect plenty more cancelled/postponed games.
Still think they should've skipped the OOC schedule, set up conference-only mini bubbles in the nearest large city (Pac could've been Phoenix or Denver), played a round robin style league tourney, and then taken the top two from each league for a scaled down NCAA tourney.

This would have been a good idea, but it would have required acknowledging that things need to be done differently amid a massive pandemic and that my friend is a bridge too far.Beachcat97 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 23, 2020 11:14 am College hoops doesn't seem to be doing things remotely similar to how the NBA did their bubble, and now we're seeing the result. I know. I live in SoCal where cases are skyrocketing amid seeming indifference by most people. We still put our masks on for walking the dogs, whether people are near us or not. Just feels like some small gesture we can do to show kindness towards our neighbors.YoDeFoe wrote: ↑Mon Nov 23, 2020 1:31 pmThis would have been a good idea, but it would have required acknowledging that things need to be done differently amid a massive pandemic and that my friend is a bridge too far.Beachcat97 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 23, 2020 11:14 am College hoops doesn't seem to be doing things remotely similar to how the NBA did their bubble, and now we're seeing the result. Anyway, it's a shame that this college hoops season has been planned so poorly, and it's a shame that so many coaches and players are testing positive. Didn't have to be this way.

Just when I thought the NCAA couldn't do anything else, they take forever to clear Kerr...
Not that we'll have much of a season at this rate, but geez just clear everyone for this year anyway.

It takes some intestinal fortitude to ask/tell CSM that you are taking a long weekend and going back to Estonia to play some hoops.
