Wilner
Former Star basketball writer Jon Wilner wrote a column, which was mostly an opportunity for him to say what a bad football job this is. Then, he concluded that UArizona just HAS to "keep it in the family" and hire Brennan or Salave'a. (Not much of a news flash there, but at least he isn't claiming any non-existent sources with secret information.) However, I do feel a little like Rhett Butler in GWTW smirking and bowing at the waist to Charles Hamilton and "apologizing again for all my shortcomings." Arizona has had more winning records than losing records in the Pac. The worst of it was when Tomey was fired after a down slope of his perpetual sine wave, followed by the horrific hire of Mackovic, followed by Stoops digging out from Mackovic's recruiting, player revolt/exodus and APR issues. That was a nine year stretch from 1999 through 2007 that otherwise doesn't reflect how Arizona has fared over 42 years. I agree that you need somebody with the personality of a grinder. But, while someone "in the family" is aware of what's required here, if otherwise isn't a requirement. Mackovic was "in the family", and look how that turned out. And for those of us born before 1987, "the family" doesn't exclusively consist of Tomey's coaching tree.

Re: New Coach Hot Board
In hindsight, NCSU should have hired Shay Binion. He was a nice guy with a can do attitude, and he probably wouldn't have gotten them sanctioned over Dennis Smith Jr. in a sub .500 year.

It'll be so funny if the worst thing ASU ever did, was win 70-7 and unite generations of Arizona football

Charlie Brown’s favorite baseball player? No wait, that was Joe. Must have been Harvey’s cousin.
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

Re: New Coach Hot Board
If we hadn’t shit the bed against ASU to the tune of 70-7, would even 50 of these guys care enough to get involved with the direction of the program?
Embarrassment is a powerful motivator.

Ha! So thats where the name came from! I just knew it as a name people might put as a return addressee when sending questionable things in the mail.Chicat wrote: ↑Tue Dec 15, 2020 4:34 pmCharlie Brown’s favorite baseball player? No wait, that was Joe. Must have been Harvey’s cousin.

Zoom is one of the top reasons I retired this year! Man I hated it.
Much less trying to control 300 athletes all trying to speak at once.

This is what I worry about too.Spaceman Spiff wrote: ↑Tue Dec 15, 2020 4:48 pm Hopefully this turns into collaboration, not a bunch of people trying to tell Heeke what to do. Primarily because Heeke seems like the type of guy who would be easy to bully like that.

Scheer posted that one candidate has been confirmed for an interview. Any idea who?

At this point it looks like Brennan or Niumatalolo and it probably doesn’t go further than there.

Re: New Coach Hot Board
Does the search firm just do a background check or does it uncover the "hidden candidate"? Really, how many contenders are there for Arizona's head football coach and shouldn't this be our AD's job to have a list and choose one? What does the search firm do that he can't?

If it’s Brennan or Ken N, I’d rather it be Ken. That way I can either be vindicated, or eat so much crow I’m ecstatic.
Re: New Coach Hot Board
The AZ Desert Swarm article about Heeke tonight doesn’t sit well with me at all. Already pulled my donations this year. Glad I did for now while he’s here.

I’m sure they do both, but then what the fuck are we paying Heeke and his staff for?In re UofA wrote: ↑Tue Dec 15, 2020 11:57 pm Does the search firm just do a background check or does it uncover the "hidden candidate"? In reality, this is to provide Heeke and Robbins cover. If the guy that gets hired ends up being a piece of shit or a total failure or both, they can say “Don’t blame me. We even went so far as to hire a search firm to turn over every rock.”

Good chance that once this hire is made, Heeke will be dismissed soon after. At least that is my hope.Chicat wrote: ↑Wed Dec 16, 2020 6:21 amI’m sure they do both, but then what the fuck are we paying Heeke and his staff for?In re UofA wrote: ↑Tue Dec 15, 2020 11:57 pm Does the search firm just do a background check or does it uncover the "hidden candidate"? Re: New Coach Hot Board
I actually hope not, unless the new coach is made aware of that plan and it’s a “soft transition” (ie - Heeke is moved to a position of less authority with the idea he looks for a new job). I’d also want Miller and the new football coach to have some say in the process so that the new AD isn’t coming in looking to replace one or both of them with his people.MountainCat wrote: ↑Wed Dec 16, 2020 6:28 amGood chance that once this hire is made, Heeke will be dismissed soon after. If we can’t do that, might as well keep Heeke. Yeah, he’s a waste of space, but he’s not going to rock the boat.
