Re: Tiger Woods
My wife did her residency at that hospital. She said if someone is taken to surgery straight from a crash that is as serious as it gets.
Re: Tiger Woods
I saw that both his legs are broken
i was going to put the ua/asu records here...but i forgot what they were.
i'll just go with fuck asu.

Re: Tiger Woods
He is in serious condition not critical so he should be ok.

The Need for Speed! He was conscious when the cops arrived. Alcohol is not suspected.
Re: Tiger Woods
No brake or skid marks in -that- accident????
Hmmmmmmmm
Hmmmmmmmm
Re: Tiger Woods
I've driven down this road dozens of times. This particular portion of Hawthorne is curvy and people drive really fast on it. If you aren't from the area I could see not totally understanding how to handle it.
Re: Tiger Woods
Sure. And when you realize you’ve created a problem for yourself, you brake. Eventually. At some point. Before all those huge trees completely destroy you.
Or he’s still loaded up on pain killers from his last back surgery a month ago.

A billionaire can’t hire a driver to get him to the airport? Needless accident but thank goodness no one else was involved

I was just going to say that. Hire a fucking driver.

Just not a helicopter pilot.
Kind of surprised these billionaires don't have live in chauffeurs like they do in the old TV shows and movies.
Re: Tiger Woods
Not only does he have a compound fracture to his leg, his ankle is shattered, https://www.espn.com/golf/story/_/id/30 ... olls-crash.
His back must also be screwed up. It's going to be a long road for Tiger.

I can't imagine he golfs professionally again.
Glad he's going to be ok, but this is a shitty way to end his career

Re: Tiger Woods
I imagine due to his huge popularity the PGA might give him an exemption and let him use a cart like they did with some golfer a few years back.

This does not sound good at all

Although the public is focused on the multiple fractures in his right leg, ankle and foot, the real worry is the associated soft tissue injury. The ability for the bones to heal is not the biggest concern here.
The statement acknowledges the “trauma to the muscle and soft-tissue,” and this is what needs to be watched carefully. Even complex comminuted (multiple fragments) fractures can heal reliably. However, if the covering around the bone is not viable, that creates an even bigger problem of infection.
The statement acknowledges “comminuted open fracture” where bone fragments punctured through the skin in two different places on the shin. It also indicates there was enough crush injury and force that there is significant worry for swelling such that “surgical release of the covering of the muscle” (fasciotomy) was performed, which means Woods currently still has open wounds to his leg. Thus, the story is not over.
Woods will likely have several additional surgeries, at least to keep the wound clean, to debride dead/damaged tissue and eventually to close the wounds. In such cases, the damage is often so great that there is not enough healthy muscle or skin to cover the bone, and therefore a flap or tissue transfer is needed.
All of this is not to discount the significant bone injury. By report, Woods has a segmental (broken in two separate areas) tibia fracture that is shattered in many pieces. The possibility of further definitive fixation of the bones in the leg/ankle/foot also exists.
The statement does not indicate the presence or absence of nerve or artery injury, and the hope is that this implies there was none. It also makes no mention of the left leg, despite early reports of both legs being injured.
There is no question there was more force and initial damage here than when Washington quarterback Alex Smith suffered an open fracture that needed 17 surgeries and two years of recovery. The hope is that early action for Woods prevents an infection and the resultant complications, but no question this will involve more upcoming surgery and a long road to recovery.
Let’s get Tiger out of the hospital and walking before we discuss his golf future. He has beaten long odds to return before with his five back surgeries and spine fusion, but his odds are even longer now.

Didn’t Ben Hogan have a major car crash and came back and won a tournament?

Right, but we're talkin' Ben Hogan. I don't know how to distill what makes Tiger Tiger, but Ben Hogan he's not.

Are you saying Tiger is not in the same company as Ben Hogan? I find that hard to believe statistically.
Don't get me wrong Ben was one of the greatest of all time but Tiger is arguably the greatest golfer to ever pick up a club.

Re: Tiger Woods
I'd also say he's got to be one of the most ferocious competitors across all sports. Put him up there with Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Kobe Bryant, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemeiux, Roger Clemens, Pete Rose, Bob Gibson, and maybe a handful of others in their unwillingness to lose at anything.

Re: Tiger Woods
Statistically Tiger is everything equal to or beyond Hogan. But Hogan was an obsessive of a different order and era. He came at a time before the big money when golf had a different ethos. Sam Snead used to say he hated traveling with and having accommodation next to Hogan because he paced all night in his hotel room wearing out the carpet before tournaments. Tiger's drive is his own, but with this setback it will be tested in ways that will further bring out the difference between him and Hogan. Just my opinion.EastCoastCat wrote: ↑Fri Feb 26, 2021 7:04 amHuh, what?dovecanyoncat wrote: ↑Thu Feb 25, 2021 8:42 pmRight, but we're talkin' Ben Hogan. Re: Tiger Woods
Like someone said, the PGA needs Tiger more than Tiger needs the PGA.
Often think about the glory days of boxing with Ali and Frazier with Cosell calling the fights. Can anyone even name one boxer now?

Re: Tiger Woods
I think this was true about golf 10+ years ago.
Right now though.... there are many really really good young golfers on the tour. Sure excitement goes to another level when Tiger is contending... but it's not like is was several years ago when no one watched a PGA event unless they saw Tiger's name at the top of the leaderboard.

If he comes back from this and wins a tournament, no less a major I am going to truly genuflect...
Re: Tiger Woods
Sounds pretty irresponsible. Maybe needs some jail time and at the very least a ticket or two
Re: Tiger Woods
My wife says she isn't entirely buying this. She thinks he might have been detoxing or coming off Benzos. He looked like a mess a day or two before the interview. There were stories of him being very irritable when he got his car out of valet before the crash. Driving erratically in and out of traffic and nearly hitting someone as he left the hotel. Those are all signs of benzo withdrawal. She thinks he had a sezuire while driving and that is why there were no brake marks or anything. It would also explain why the Sheriff initially said it would be breaking Hippa to release the cause of the accident.

Most of us learned through mistakes in our teenage and college years (I know I did ten fold), Tiger did not have that luxury.
