Chicago Bears

Post by Chicat »

Bears hire the Ryan Pace as GM. He was the Director of Player Personnel for the Saints for the past two years and supposedly has a real eye for talent.

I like it.
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

My like / dislike of this or any GM for the Bears depends 100% on what they do with Cutler.

Well, they can't kill him . . . . or can they?

Anyway, I really really hope they hire John Fox. Instant upgrade right there.

I'm guessing the Bears haven't made a hire yet is due to no coach wanting to hog tie their career to Cutler

Is Ted Phillips still involved with the organization and has any power/decision making responsibilities at all? Oh he is and does? Yeah, sure, that sounds like a good idea.

As for the coach, sure, Fox is an upgrade, but that's not saying much given the guy he's replacing. Also he's still saddled with cutler, so, yeah we're still screwed.

on a side note, I really gotta get zebra to post more on this site, he has some real....colorfully stated....opinions on this matter

Bears fans: Cutler plus the seventh overall pick for Titan's second overall pick?

It's not clear to me that Cutler with his contract is a net positive at all so I would say in a general sense it's a pretty easy call, but at #2 overall you're taking a very specific person so it might depend a bit on your perception of Mariotta and what kind of offense you want to run.

That's another good point. Get Cutler off your books. Get Mariotta on your books. Trade the very valuable Mariotta to get something closer to what you want.

That is a very good idea. I think that idea makes it a no brainer.

How did Carey end up 4th on the depth chart?

What is going on with KDC in Chicago?

Every RB had a great preseason. Carey definitely looked good, but not as good as Langford and Rodgers.

Just saw on Twitter that the Bears punted every possession (10) and Seattle scored on every one, until the final kneel down.

Jimmy Clausen is an NFL QB? What?

Don't think that's true. Seattle only had two field goals in the first half. Only two possessions? Doesn't seem likely.

No no. Bears played very solid defense in the first half. I think at one point late in the second, Seattle only had one first down, Wilson had like 14 passing yards, and the running game was shut down. Bears gave up a TD return to Lockett (eventually teams are going to figure out kicking to him is suicide). Second half, Seahawks opened things up. Lynch was out of the game due to injury, and the backup Rawls looked Lynch-like, he had over 100 yards on the ground in the second. Bevell finally got creative with some passing plays and the o-line was blocking a lot better (mostly due to Rawls opening things up with the run). They still only scored one offensive TD and the Bears held them to field goals and four punts otherwise. Their DB's broke up multiple touchdowns on great plays

On offense though, they were anemic. Forte ran the ball extremely well early, but the Bears were lining up in two and three tight end formations. Seattle clamped down on the run and that was that. Clausen did not play poorly by any means. You aren't going to have passing success when you only have one or two route runners and you got Sherman, Thomas and Chancellor (played about half the game) out there. When the bears tried to open things up, it was blatantly obvious, and Seattle opened up the pass rush for the first time all year. He didn't have any time to get throws off. When Seattle only rushed three or four, they were generally on 2nd and 3rd and long situations, and Clausen was fine, hitting his open man, only to have the defensive backs and linebackers come crashing in to stop them several yards short of the first down. All things considered, for a backup, he gave a "B" performance with no turnovers, Cutler would have gotten eaten alive that game (I know thats not saying much). Tough place to play, a pissed off 0-2 team and Chancellor came back, they were pumped. Seattle would have skunked 1/3 of the league yesterday.

The box score shows Seattle punted 4 times.

Nice TD run for Ka'Deem. You just knew that SF player wasn't going to keep him from the endzone. Deem drove him 3 yards from initial contact, well into the endzone :)

Bears quarterback Cutler's brother-in-law missing in Utah

CHICAGO (AP) - Authorities in Utah are looking for Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler's brother-in-law, who went missing more than a week ago.

A 2014 Honda Civic registered to Michael Cavallari was found abandoned in Grand County, Utah on Nov. 27, according to a statement from the county sheriff's office. Authorities have been searching since for Cavallari, who is the brother of Kristin Cavallari, a reality television star and wife of Cutler. Authorities said the driver of the abandoned vehicle was identified as Michael Cavallari from credit card receipts that led to a convenience store in Monticello, Utah, where they saw him in footage on the store's security system. Grand County is about 100 miles north of Monticello and 225 miles south of Salt Lake City.

Michael Cavallari lives in San Clemente, California.
