UConn never even led all game, right?

I’m needing to rep all of you posting in this thread tonight... best game thread in a long long time!!!
Re: (W) NCAA Final Four, Arizona vs. Connecticut (2020-2021)
Two middle fingers to all of them.
Arizona leaves no doubt! Win or lose to Stanford, wow!
"I don't think anybody's going to count them out ever again"? I could literally hear the tears in the SportsCenter anchor's subsequent intro.
Go Wildcats! What a run! Best story of 2021, no matter what the ESPNCAA basketball complex says.

It's funny. The Stanford game in Tucson the Cats did not look good. They are a far better team now.
Stanford is a better team than UConn, and bigger. Still... anything can happen in one game.

You got it sir!
It's long past time to bring this back to the court, let's do it with a small update:
Re: (W) NCAA Final Four, Arizona vs. Connecticut (2020-2021)
They had multiple moments though, cutting to 5 early in the 3rd and then again midway through the 4th. But each time, we answered and shook them off. Really incredible performance all around.

Yep. We controlled the entire game. It wasn’t even close if you think about.
I’m in fucking shock. The thing I think made the difference is UCONN is a very young team. They didn’t have any upperclasswomen to help them deal with the pressure.

Another reminder. Aari didn’t get one vote for POY and Adia got zero votes for NPOY. Who did what tonight

No disrespect to Tara VanDerVeer, but the NCOY award couldn't have been more phoned in if coaches had to use a 1995 AOL modem.

Props to Auriemma. Gracious in defeat and not allowing reporters to miscast this game with respect to officiating.

Just admit you thought you'd blow us out without trying.

I agree with you there! I caught the first game, wasn't pretty. This team right now looks to be playing loose and stingy on defense. Plus the Team outside of Aari has stepped up making them that much tougher. Focus too much on her and that will hurt you. Excited for Sunday.Catintheheat wrote: ↑Fri Apr 02, 2021 8:43 pmIt's funny. Re: (W) NCAA Final Four, Arizona vs. Connecticut (2020-2021)
I like Geno. He’s pretty honest in his interviews and said his team was immature when facing adversity.
He did say they prepared for Arizona more than they did for Baylor so in his mind he didn’t take the Cats lightly. But his team probably did.

Re: (W) NCAA Final Four, Arizona vs. Connecticut (2020-2021)
It's easy for an experienced coach to not take us lightly, but a lot harder for 18-21 year old women to have that mindset. We've seen our men's team underestimate opponents quite a few times.EastCoastCat wrote: ↑Fri Apr 02, 2021 9:40 pm I like Geno. Re: (W) NCAA Final Four, Arizona vs. Connecticut (2020-2021)
What won this game is toughness. Outrebounding UCONN and out scoring them in the paint. There is NO ONE who thought that was even possible. Aari gets the credit and should but this game was won by out rebounding the Huskies and only allowing one shot.

Aari only getting two points in the third quarter but us extending our lead was HUGE.
That was the moment. They took away our best player briefly and the rest of the team stepped up in all three phases.

That was the most enjoyable game I've seen in a long time. It has been close to 20 years that I've been this excited for the Cats.

I'm still all amped up from last night. Pretty much kicked UCONN's ass from the jump. Saw folks on Twitter complaining about the refs helping us. That's some bullshit. We punked them and earned that win 1000%
I said what I said and I mean it.

Re: (W) NCAA Final Four, Arizona vs. Connecticut (2020-2021)
You are always going to get fans who will complain about refs. Shit, we know about that with Pac 12 officiating.
Geno was asked if all of the fouls affected how his team played. He was wise to say, considering he caught quite a break at the end of the Baylor game, that you just have to adjust and that no way, 100%, it had any impact on the results of the game.
As we know, they let a lot more contact go in the women’s game especially in the paint. And the only horrendous call I saw all night was Williams fifth foul which was a foul but just on a different player. Not sure even after going to the monitor why they didn’t change that one. I will say I was surprised Aari got a couple of those bump/ trip calls - not because they aren’t fouls - but she never got those calls in league play.
Anyway, to the victor goes the spoils!

Re: (W) NCAA Final Four, Arizona vs. Connecticut (2020-2021)
Every screen Reese set seems illegal.
AZ was so much more aggressive with the guards , UCONN was always backpedaling and that led to some fouls. But it seemed like AZ was called for more fouls in the first three quarters.
I saw people say that UCOON missed a lot of bunnies, but AZ missed a lot of shots early in the game too.

Re: (W) NCAA Final Four, Arizona vs. Connecticut (2020-2021)
UConn did miss a lot of bunnies which is unusual for them as they are such a scoring machine. But the difference last night was our tenacious/swarming defense even in the paint and the fact that their young players succumbed to the pressure of the moment.Postmaster wrote: ↑Sat Apr 03, 2021 10:48 am Every screen Reese set seems illegal.

Fans complaining about refs is normal and is expected.
This thread would have you believe the refs were on the payroll of UConn. I haven't read a UConn board's game thread from last night but without looking I would put money on them thinking the same about the refs and Arizona.
We all see what we want to see.

Nope. I have chatted with a bunch of UCONN fans here. Gave total credit to Arizona. Also mentioned Muhl (sp?) being limited due to injury hurt their usual rotation and their bigs had their worst game ever. But they are shrugging it off saying they will be there next year and it should be a different story, especially with this experience under their belt.Alieberman wrote: ↑Sat Apr 03, 2021 11:18 am Fans complaining about refs is normal and is expected.

Guess you can say that when you have 11 titles and the amount of talent they have every year.
