Why the hell would Gonzaga's Drew Timme return? His stock is not going to get any higher and all he does is risk injury. Crap, if Gonzaga players were on the Arizona roster, they'd all depart. Everyone damn one of them.

The frustrating part of that prediction is how it could be better if Miller got an extension and could add talent to the roster.

I know we’re missing out on a guy because he doesn’t feel Miller will be here. Nicely done Robbins!

If Miller is gone I guess Lloyd wouldn't be a bad thing. Wouldn't be happy with him gone but I'd be ok With Lloyd. I'm a big sean miller guy, but Lloyd wouldn't be the end of the world. There are far worse options
I said what I said and I mean it.
Re: The 2021-2022 Season Thread
Why should any of this surprise you???
Gonzaga intentionally recruits players (the vast majority) who buy in to staying the in the program and developing.
Miller/UA has the opposite approach. We are the "Players Program". We tell recruits that we will get them to the NBA
as fast as possible. This has led to the current "Pit Stop" mentality of the program.

I agree. Unless there's something privately known about Miller, which would serve as a much more actionable basis to fire him, you don't replace someone with Miller's track record with a guy who doesn't even have a track record.Spaceman Spiff wrote: ↑Mon Apr 05, 2021 5:35 pmEhh, hiring a guy with no HC experience...we talk like we're too good for a guy with 4 Elite Eights and then hire someone who's never coached a game?BeardownZonaZona wrote: ↑Mon Apr 05, 2021 4:35 pm If Miller is gone I guess Lloyd wouldn't be a bad thing. Re: The 2021-2022 Season Thread
That's why I think it would make sense. Few is 58. He can easily coach for another 15 years if he wanted to. K at Duke is 74 or so. Lloyd is 46, could very well be looking to take the next step in his career but Few could very well be there for a very long time. Come into a name brand school that has a core that if you can keep them around you can have a good first year. Tucson is a nice place to live and would be a pretty killer head coaching gig. Possibly haven't done anything about miller yet because we have been waiting for Zaga to finish their year first, as we could've been talking to him for a couple weeks. I think it makes perfect sense. No matter what happens with the IARP, Arizona is still a great gig and is a national brand that can recruit to a high level and compete at a high level. I can very well see Lloyd here. I'm a very big Miller supporter and would be pissed to see him gone, but I'm just saying I can realistically see that happening and it would make sense why Lloyd would be interested

Then again this administration never makes sense and doesn't do anything with rhyme or reason. Robbins is an idiot and Heeke does exactly what Robbins wants him to do, nothing. Should've signed miller back weeks ago.

If someone like Lloyd was not interested, then we have a lot more problems than I realize. Are we really at the point where we have to rationalize if an assistant coach would take our head coaching position?BeardownZonaZona wrote: ↑Mon Apr 05, 2021 5:42 pmThat's why I think it would make sense. If there's something privately known about Miller, he should have been done a while back. Keep or fire, this decision should have been done the week after the season.Beachcat97 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 05, 2021 5:40 pmI agree. If we fire him for an assistant, Robbins might be full on sabotaging the program. People for firing Miller definitely weren't talking some assistant coach.

Pretty much summed it up great. The administration here is a joke. Can't do anything right. It falls back to Robbins. I've never seen a president lead head coaching searches. It's shocking the power he has at the University. Gonzaga's Tommy Lloyd helped construct -- and is heir to the throne of -- a remarkable hoops dynasty

AMONG THE awards in Few's office is his National Coach of the Year trophy. And one of the names engraved on the trophy is former North Carolina coach Bill Guthridge, who was in charge of the Tar Heels for three seasons after Dean Smith retired. When you combine his years as an assistant coach and head coach, Guthridge spent 33 seasons in Chapel Hill.
Lloyd could end up as the West Coast Bill Guthridge -- and that's fine with him.
"I'll look at that as an honor," Lloyd said. "Whatever, he's not going to be in the Hall of Fame. He's not gonna be this, he's not gonna be that. But I'll guarantee if you go back, he had a huge impact on that program, on the coaches and on the players, and that's pretty awesome. If that's what I end up being labeled as, I'm really cool with that."
In other words, Lloyd isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
Lloyd (left) has been Few's assistant for two decades.
Darren Yamashita-USA TODAY Sports
It's a topic that has come up within the industry when the coaching carousel kicks off every March: Why hasn't Tommy Lloyd landed a head-coaching job? Why is he still at Gonzaga? Despite routinely torching schools in the Pac-12 and certainly the WCC with a recruiting network as rich as that of any coach in Division I, Lloyd has never even gone to another campus for a job interview.
There are a few reasons -- and one can be answered by two other people who often get asked the second question: Few and athletic director Mike Roth.
"It's not that he hasn't had an interview," said Roth, who added that Lloyd's compensation already eliminates most potential head-coaching jobs. "He's declined them."
"He's got a guarantee to be the next head coach here, so that's pretty strong," Few said.
It's more than a verbal guarantee, though, more than some sort of handshake agreement. Lloyd has it written into his contract that he's the next head coach at Gonzaga, whenever Few decides to retire.
"Tommy has it in writing from me and the president that says, as long as he's here, when Mark retires, it's your job," Roth said. "He's got a document. I've got a document. The president's got a document. Our general counsel has a document. It's his job.
That last paragraph would make you think or ask, why would he leave?

Gary Parrish came out with his preseason top-25, https://www.cbssports.com/college-baske ... els-coach/.
He has the Cats #21, UCLA #1. Here is what he wrote about Arizona:
Most of the pieces that helped Arizona finish in the top 30 at KenPom are expected back. As long as James Akinjo withdraws from the NBA Draft, the Wildcats should return to the NCAA Tournament (provided they're eligible for the NCAA Tournament).
He has Kansas #10. Here is what he wrote:
Even if Ochai Agbaji moves on, Kansas should still return four starters from a team that went 9-2 in its final 11 games and advanced in the NCAA Tournament. A top-10 recruiting class will help the Jayhawks compete for the Big 12 title.
Of course there is no mention of Kansas and the investigation.

Not sure why all these articles think the investigation will be done before tourney time. It'll probably be next summer.

Should help with the wing perimeter defense I have harping as a huge need. He was the big sky DPOY. Also looks to be a very good rebounder and a capable 3pt shooter, though not great.

Terrible 3pt shooter (30%) who for some reason loves to take threes (56% of attempts), especially catch and shoot (85% assisted). Would be an efficient offensive player if he just didn't take another three - he finished 70% of his attempts at the rim and 48% of his two point jumpers.gronk4heisman wrote: ↑Tue Apr 06, 2021 1:40 pmShould help with the wing perimeter defense I have harping as a huge need. He is not a mystery, he played against 3 pac schools last year (Ariz one of them) and did not score effeciently in any game besides WSU. He is a defensive player and a good rebounder. He has reasonable size and will be helpful against some teams like UCLA and Oregon where you need size.

Nevermind on this season guys. Looks like a 10 win season if I've ever seen one. Thanks president robbins for ruining a team that's pre-season top 15 because of your big ego. Thanks for ruining it for kids who traveled across the world to play for CSM during a pandemic and jumped through hoops to get cleared to live here and play. Thanks for running the worst coaching search I've ever seen, and I've personally watched how we conducted a football search, and this is worse. Thanks for making the worst possible decisions almost every time. Thanks Robbins. Really appreciate it man

If he only takes open, in rhythym shots, I feel like you get a solid bench piece.

I'll be interested to see how many guys stay. What happens to JT & the rest of the BB staff? I wouldn't be surprised to see the majority of the team leave. Also, forget the top level transfers showing up now

I'm not counting on Ricky Bobby to do anything smart... but at this point... I'd just keep the staff, bump Murph up to head coach.

I've gotta be honest, I hope players leave.
Part of Robbins stringing out the process seems designed to screw the players by reducing their potential destinations. Eff Robbins, I hope our players find major roles.

I hope every single one down to he last walk on leaves. Good thing the 3 incoming freshmen weren’t due to sign their LOI’s till next week.Spaceman Spiff wrote: ↑Wed Apr 07, 2021 10:29 amI've gotta be honest, I hope players leave.

Same.
Since this is a free transfer year, would expect many of the players to enter the portal, and follow Miller wherever he goes.
Miller has a mitigation deal in his contract, if fired he needs to look for a job and his UA buyout will be that much less.
He won't be out of a job for long, although I don't think there are any HC jobs open now.

I will never hold any ill will over any of our current players leaving and I will root for them all
