It should be. I can probably name the 4 probable playoff teams year in and year out. Bama, Ohio St, Clemson and Georgia mixed in with one surprise team.

It actually makes for a very boring year. The opposite is the NCAA tournament in basketball where you always feel like you have a punchers chance

Aside from Arizona being terrible, the playoff system as it is has been the main reason I've basically stopped watching college football. Why does it matter when you know the playoffs will be 4 of the same 6-7 teams every year? It needs to be at least 6, preferably 8.
i was going to put the ua/asu records here...but i forgot what they were.

i'll just go with fuck asu.

Report out today the Playoff is going to 12 teams by 2026.

About damn time.

Well if I was Oregon or Washington, I might think twice about bolting for theB1G and then never getting to the playoffs

Cue the same voices who spent a year or two worth of comments section postings zealously calling for a 12-team playoff to now pivot to impetuously demanding a 16- or 24-team playoff. As though expanded playoffs are some sort of human right.

Seriously, the endless (endless!) bitching across the college football discourse about how the playoff must be expanded (or else!) has been the worst aspect of being a college football fan these past few seasons.

12 team playoff format is another joke by the college football committee? Sure 6 conference champions and 6 at large may look good on paper but the conversation will still be said, what about the other conference champions from the group of 5.
