Re: F*ck Larry Scott
I heard recently that there are groups (certain types of faculty) on campuses that prefer the dignity of Olympic sports over American sports.
Maybe these two ways of thinking are behind the idea of a split commissioner.

Re: F*ck Larry Scott
The article suggests that they want a business savvy person to handle the revenue side and then I guess another "co-commissioner" to handle the athletics side. This doesn't indicate an Olympic vs Football/Basketball split to me. Whoever these groups are need to realize football drives the bus and to a much lesser extent Men's Basketball. They need to be the priority for the conference. I always thought that some Pac-12 pres/faculty looked down on these sports because they tend to be less academically focused and maybe this is what you are alluding to. I think the Big 10 has proven that it is ok to be good at Sports and have prestigious academic institutions.Postmaster wrote: ↑Tue Apr 27, 2021 9:51 pm I heard recently that there are groups (certain types of faculty) on campuses that prefer the dignity of Olympic sports over American sports.

I wish I could remember where I heard it.
But yeah, look down the on money sports.
Too much focus (money) going to sports vs academics

I had rock bottom expectations, and this exceeded those by quite a bit. Seems much better than the president of a youth lawn darts league I was expecting.

Re: F*ck Larry Scott
I think the answer to this is that he will do what he seems to love to do at MGM, which is find ways to create "events" around our sports and get eyeballs on our conference.

Ding, dong...the bitch is dead. I think we can remove the asterisk now: Fuck Larry Scott. I'm okay with the hire. The most important thing is bringing in money and getting exposure. There are tons of college athletics administrator types out there. He can hire whoever he likes to can help coordinate and adjudicate the nuts and bolts issues.

I can't believe we had to put up with Larry Scott for that long. Someone deserves violence for allowing it.

Re: F*ck Larry Scott
It depends on how they're implemented and executed of course, but it's not like he didn't nail the major issues confronting the Pac.
I suppose I'm asking too much to want him to add forcing Bobby Robbins out as #4, so I'm ok with that.
Re: F*ck Larry Scott
But how do you pronounce his name?

Is it too much to hope that he cleans up officiating? Or, minimally, keeps his buddies out of the replay booths?

Re: F*ck Larry Scott
It would be nice to see him get away from the cronyism that marked Scott's time. Handling TV rights has to be front and center, though.
The Pac 12 Network debacle has dragged the revenue and exposure of the conference down so much. Job 1 has to be getting that settled to expand revenue and exposure in football and basketball.
That will hopefully assist the goal of making the Pac relevant in revenue sports. Revenue and exposure will hopefully help recruiting, retaining talented coaches and lead to results.
Re: F*ck Larry Scott
Oh, I agree. That should be number one, followed by trying to see how to get out of the lease in San Francisco, and then he can clean up officiating, which would make for a much more enjoyable product to watch.Spaceman Spiff wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 1:29 pmIt would be nice to see him get away from the cronyism that marked Scott's time. 100%. Hopefully the natural re-HQing to Las Vegas will occur pretty fast. Now that Allegiant exists, all the CCG's should be in Vegas. It's so perfect for conference championships and tourneys.ekat wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 1:53 pmOh, I agree. It would be the first smart proactive move the Pac has made in a bit to embrace gambling as well. College sports hate it, but it's the future and there has to be money potential in the right avenues.
