Re: The Weather is Crazy
The saguaros are plump.
Re: The Weather is Crazy
I've never seen random dirt lots in Tucson as full of waist high grass and weeds and shrubs before. Pusch Ridge and Mt Lemmon have a Scotland-esque green tinge to them.
i was going to put the ua/asu records here...but i forgot what they were.
i'll just go with fuck asu.

Re: The Weather is Crazy
We definitely needed this. Now we just need another 3 straight monsoons like this combined with very wet and snowy winters in the whole of the Rockies.

Re: The Weather is Crazy
Dry weekend is my fault, went to Prescott and the rain followed. Got back Sunday and played Ventana to see the greenery in person. There's a dry creek on the 18th green that has 3-4' of new sand in it. The walk to the waterfall behind the resort is closed but I found a way in and its a mess. Part of the concrete pond at the base broke and it overflowed. Tons of debris and sand came over that waterfall, I can only imagine how destructive the flow was during the peak of those storms.
Re: The Weather is Crazy
The east side got hammered by a microburst last night. 1.8 - 3" of rain over a couple hours plus hail and 60mph+ winds. Client had their entire roof blow off at Ft Lowell and Melpomene, power lines ripped out of the walls and knocked over 5 saguaros. They've had no power or AC since 8PM

Forty Niners got hit hard. Tons of tall trees down
Re: The Weather is Crazy
That's so crazy. I live by the TMC and all we had was some wind breezes up to maybe 25 mph and no rain at all, yet a couple miles away they had all that.

Re: The Weather is Crazy
Actually rained last night. Not much but. . .that might be for the best. Need a little bit at a time over a long period not. . .*flood alert*
Re: The Weather is Crazy
Visited the house I mentioned above and it looks like a bomb went off. The Arizona room roof is 150yds away in the neighbors yard and the ceiling fan and rain gutters were still attached to the beams. They lost 6 saguaros, 1 ocotillo, 2 massive palo verdes and 5 mesquites. They were outside when the storm hit and it knocked them to the ground. Going to be a 4-6 month rebuild so we rented them an RV from Outdoorsy to live in. Houses on both sides of them are fine, just minor tree damage. They said 60+mph winds but this had to be closer to 100

Re: The Weather is Crazy
That’s insane. Looks a lot like tornado damage, but I know microbursts can be just as destructive.

Re: The Weather is Crazy
Wow, that is crazy. Not something I would ever expect to see in Tucson.
Just out of curiosity though, that tiny kitchen in the last image is the main kitchen for that huge house in image 2? Or is that kitchen part of some in-law unit?

Image 2 is the neighbors across the street where the roof now lays. Image 3 is the house that was destroyed. Its a little bigger than it looks in that photo. Early 70s home and the owners are in their late 80s. Never upgraded but now they might. They do also have another kitchen in the in-law suite on the other side of the house.

Woke up the last two mornings between 3AM and 5 AM to thunderstorms. Who needs an alarm clock when you have a dog that whines at the first rumble of thunder?

Rain coming in from the northwest. I put my e-bike on sport mode and beat it home. I probably burned only 4 calories cheating that way. Luckily I can pour myself a bowl of Super Colon Blow.
Re: The Weather is Crazy
1" in 30 mins on the NE side this morning, 2-4" on Mt Lemmon and the NW got it bad as well. Golder Ranch saved 3 people already

Another crazy night of rain, we got over 4 inches in parts of the northeast side.

Re: The Weather is Crazy
In my own experience, this seems common. Are transplanted saguaros just a big crapshoot?
My sister-in-law has hinted that she'd like a saguaro in her front yard as a new housewarming gift. The idea annoys me. It seems like asking for failure.
Re: The Weather is Crazy
Since June 30 there are dozens and dozens of rain gauges all over town showing 10"+. This is just from the last 24 hours. The wash at Oreganos on Speedway overflowed last night and closed Speedway down. There were tree branches stuck in the gutter this morning

Re: The Weather is Crazy
Yea except for some obviously incorrect or poorly placed outliers, every gauge since June 15th is showing 6.5-15 inches of rain throughout the metro area.
Re: The Weather is Crazy
Another 1-2 inches of rain last night, now the 4th wettest monsoon in Tucson history

Much rain overnight and now it’s absolutely pouring right now.

Over 2 hours of non-stop lightning out west of us stretching from the rim south to Jerome. If it's not raining out there we're gonna have fires tomorrow. What a light show.

Nearly 4" of rain on Mt Lemmon turned the Marshall Gulch parking lot into a river: https://www.facebook.com/mtlemmonhotel/ ... 1539331627
Mt Lemmon Hotel has recorded 31.3" of rain this monsoon season. About to have more rain than snow last year

Show most people that bottom picture and they're going to think it's in Switzerland and not Arizona much less in Arizona only 10 miles from the desert

Re: The Weather is Crazy
That is crazy!
My yard looks about as dry as the top picture, I'm within 2 miles of lake superior and 1/3 of a mile from lake independence which is close to 3 miles across.
It is so dry here.
But the last time I remember a summer this dry, it rained almost every day in October and we got 400 inches of snow in the winter.
It's supposed to rain tomorrow, pretty excited.
Im not complaining, my well is only 88 feet deep, has the best water on the planet, is in the same aquifer as the twp wells, and would not run out til the lake level drops 40 feet. Which won't happen until the government starts reallocating our water to California.
But I'm pretty sure we would have already seceded from the nation and gone to war by then.

Arizona State might have the most surprisingly anemic history in men's basketball of any program that you might think is better than it is.

Late summer tropical systems were just as much of my growing up as Nor’Easters in October and ice storms in December. Spent many a day waiting for the power to go out… and many more waiting for it to come back on.EastCoastCat wrote: ↑Fri Aug 20, 2021 6:35 pm Well I have a hurricane heading my way. In the summer. That should put us over the record even if they measure from the airport. Rain all week and Weds may not even hit 80° for the high

It rained like crazy Saturday afternoon but I think I heard on KVOA that the airport didn't get any from that storm.
