You would think any conference would want Stanford + Cal just due to the academics. Maybe outside of the SEC anyway.

Yeah, I’ll go out on a limb and say Stanford and Ol Miss will never be in the same conference.

And speaking of the SEC, I’m actually surprised they aren’t looking to shed some members with UT and OU coming on board. Does Mississippi State really bring all that much to the table besides home games where you can’t hear the announcers over the cowbells?

Lots of rumors and speculation right now, but regardless of whose opinion is quoted, that's all it is at the moment. As far as Schulz talking to Wilner, my grain of salt suggestion is to change the names to Bobbie Robbins brainstorming with Greg Hansen and consider how that would be received by most readers. At this point, it sounds like one thing to come out of this latest iteration of college football's evolution is a possible arrangement with the Pac-12 and Big Ten for non-conference scheduling, whether home-and-home, or games in domed NFL stadia. I can't see elevating more MWC teams, or taking cast-offs from what Bill Walton has always called tank towns, but we'll see.

I know what's in this for the B1G and Pac12, but the ACC is a bit puzzling. For the B1G and the PAC the whole purpose is they want a big cash payout from FOX (or anybody else not named ESPN) in the next few years and FOX & Co. would be mighty mighty hesitant to pony up oodles of money for a product whose postseason would be 100% aired by another network. So the B1G and PAC want to ensure there's a postseason seat at the table for at least one other network. Maybe the ACC is ultimately afraid of being poached by the SEC in the future, so aligning with the PAC/B1G would give them some protection in that regard as they'd be one big voting block against the SEC?

My guess is it will be a semi merging of the 3 conferences where they still keep their own conferences and divisions but there's some kind of revenue sharing and some kind of guaranteed out of conference scheduling where every team has two non-conference games against the other conferences every year. Maybe jointly bid on TV deals when they next come up
i was going to put the ua/asu records here...but i forgot what they were.

Number one agreement from this alliance should be to not schedule any games with the SEC until they start playing 9 conference games a year.

Just saying...

#1 issue (in my humble opinion) is the expanded College Football Playoff. No Pac-12, B1G, or ACC school should sign on to the idea until those conferences can make sure that there aren’t a bunch of SEC sycophants on the committee. While certain people may want to see 7 SEC teams and 5 “others” in the playoff, the other conferences have to make sure there is equal representation.

odds of that happening are pretty low actually since that doesn't bring the tv money eyeballs for advertisers. Most likely we'll be getting ooc matchups with Rutgers/Indiana/Wake Forest/Boston College

A mid season basketball tournament between the conferences would be amazing, split the 40 or some odd teams into three fields in Vegas, Chicago and NY. Sign me up!

Those Lute era beat downs by UNC are still fresh in my mind. Miller canceled the series and said he wanted to reschedule once the UA became competitive again, which obviously never was resumed.

Don't think this team will be ready to take on the elites yet and the ACC is full of them.

My team had to do a media plan recently for Manhattan and Salina Kansas. No one knew those places actually existed. When I mentioned that Kansas State was in Manhattan one girl said, “Wait, there’s another college in Kansas besides KU?”

I’d rather add UNLV and Fresno State if we’re just scraping the bottom of the barrel here.

That's hilarious Chi. One of the 1st places my parents lived after getting married was in Salina. Not much going on there for sure. Not a whole lot more going on in Manhattan either except for KSU. My cousin was the athletic director at KSU for a small time and stayed on for many years in the AD. Would be a lot like going to WSU as far as travel. Not sure what they would contribute to the PAC12.

I have deep Kansas & Nebraska roots so I know the area well & my in-laws are from Missouri

According to this "pundit", it's because they are tier 1 research institutions.

Well they are Tier 130 media markets. Not to mention that they are two time zones away from California, Oregon, Washington, and Arizona (half the year).

If this actually happens we’ll know that Kliavkoff’s background in entertainment doesn’t mean fuck-all.

Along with only 3 states touching the Pacific, unlike the old PAC-8 days when they all did.

During the heydays of UNLV basketball, they were a Tier 4 school and never an option. Looking now, they are ranked 258th.

Personally, I’d love to see UNLV in the PAC. All their sports teams suck pretty bad right now but the market is pretty big. And as an academic institution they are pretty bad if I was able to get a degree from them.

And if UNLV could get in, why not San Diego St? Another poor academic institution but in a big market.

If you make two adds maybe UNLV and Houston. Houston is a tier one or one of those AAU schools academically and then add UNLV. Two decent TV markets. The PAC already controls the San Diego market place so adding them doesn’t really add anything
