Re: What's for lunch?
Lol I have probably eaten lunch out a grand total of 6 times in my 3.5 years of corporate work life. My wife and I always eat leftovers for lunch and almost never buy extra food that we would eat or make for lunch. I don't know how people afford eating lunch out every day, and I'm not exactly poor anymore. Eating lunch out or having food delivered at work every day would pay for a $25,000 car payment monthly.

I had last nights Calzone...sighChicat wrote: ↑Fri Aug 27, 2021 12:03 pm Maybe the only thing I miss about working in an office is going out to lunch. I used to have literally every cuisine in the world within walking distance. Bahn Mi on Monday, Chicken Tikka on Tuesday, Burgers, Pasta, Sushi… it was all right there to appease my gluttony.
Working from home it’s whatever we had for dinner a few nights ago. And if I’m lucky it’s edible reheated. Today it was pork loin and stuffing. Who the fuck truly wants three day old pork loin and dry-ass stuffing in the middle of a 90 degree day??

You got a burger from a place named after (presumably) an Irish priest from Mexico?
Interesting…

A drunken priest with a gambling problem? Too bad he didn’t have a two pack a day cigarette habit. Maybe they’d salt their burger meat.

Re: What's for lunch?
I miss going out to lunch because it was something I could do for myself, by myself, as an experience in the world.
I like women. You can't independently be friends with women as a married heterosexual man. The only women you know are friends with your wife, or women you work with, and with whom a lunch out together could only be about work.
When you're a working man, you go out to lunch, and you get to know several women based on your relationship as a food server and a married working man. And that right there is your only possible social relationship you can really have with women. When that's gone, you're just a married working man who's not really in the world anymore.

I just have a rule about not eating at places where the branding is so intentionally confusing.
An Irish Mexican sports bar OTB that serves bland burgers is definitely off my list.

Re: What's for lunch?
Somewhere I definitely visited as a child:
https://www.carlosobriens.com/
But then again...it was the 90s and I thought Applebee's, Macaroni Grill, and the pizza place with the organ were high class (I mean, it was the 90s, people generally had no clue better food existed).
My department at work is planning a team dinner in mid
September. First time we'll all be together since March 2020. But, unfortunately, everyone I work with is a born and bred east-side T-loc who still thinks Olive Garden and Red Lobster are the nicest restaurants in town. San Diego, Vegas, and Disneyland are also the only acceptable vacations to take.

Cold plate of sliced avocado, hard boiled egg, red and yellow bell peppers with carrots to dip in hummus, yellow tomatoes, fresh basil, a sliced chicken sausage, couple slices of pepper jack and a piece of toast. Cheese cake for dessert.

I stopped by Eeggee’s and had a Pina Colada.
Tasted the same to me. It had chunks of Pineapple and Coconut like always.

Great to hear. Which one did you go to? It's been bad at Speedway/Country Club and Craycroft/22nd st. I also heard the same issues in the new Phoenix locations.

Re: What's for lunch?
At my local deli…
“What’s the Union Engine 6757?”
“It’s our version of a club sandwich.”
“Sounds good … but why are you using a sub roll? And isn’t it supposed to have bacon?”
“Would you like to add bacon? And would you like that on white bread?”
“Well, a Club usually has bacon, three slices of white bread, and double the meat.”
“Oh really? Well that will be $2 extra for the bacon, $3 extra for the double meat, and $1 extra for the added slice of bread.”
“Dude, you were the one who said it was a club sandwich, not me…”

I hope you've had a great visit, ECC! I know it will be nice to be home again.
But personally, the thought of being at Gate B flying away makes me feel sad. There's nothing like lunch today and dinner tonight every day and night in the Old Pueblo.

Thanks LH! I definitely felt sad leaving Tucson. We had a total blast while we were here. But my buddies and I said the same thing - “we gotta come back next year!!!”.Longhorned wrote: ↑Mon Nov 08, 2021 12:50 pm I hope you've had a great visit, ECC! I know it will be nice to be home again.

Btw, this is the first of 3 trips. Now in LA (to take care of some family business plus see some other friends) then on Thursday I fly to Columbia SC to meet my daughter who is auditioning for the the USC (the other USC) dance team.
I just hope I survive the rest of the trip…
