Probably because he never played at Minnesota?
Can't remember the player's name you were thinking of, but his dad was a helicopter parent.
And who was the helicopter mom who taught in Tucson and made her son Jeffree transfer to Kansas when Lute retired without telling her?

I’m worried we’ll be rusty on Sunday.

Rust wears off quickly when you move fast.
Arizona State might have the most surprisingly anemic history in men's basketball of any program that you might think is better than it is.

I'll be pleasantly surprised if we blow them out. I've just come to expect that bad teams will shoot the lights out against us, especially in their home gym.

I have this incredible urge to listen to some Neil Young (saw Neil Young and Crazy Horse in concert in the early 80s).

"Everyone Knows This is Nowhere" is my favorite CSNY solo album.
Although Young was nice enough to perform this from that album with CSNY

Massey has it as Arizona 77 over Oregon State 65 with the UA having an 88% chance to win.
Pomeroy says Arizona 76 over Oregon State 67.with UA having a 78% chance to win.
Sagarin has Arizona as 11.5 point favorites.
Betcha we beat all those spreads. Arizona is 1-1 ATS away from McKale. ntOSU is 0-4 ATS at home.

Just seems like it’s rare for the visitor to blow out the home team in Pac play. I’ll stick with my original prediction. Cats by 10ish.

The UA will host Washington on Jan. 25, the rescheduled date for the Thursday game that was called off due to COVID-19 issues within the UW program.

Zags miss Tommy Lloyd. Just lost to Alabama, and were losing by as many as 18 at one point.

Interesting theory. Also possible Gonzaga has just had a brutal OOC schedule and is a little vulnerable at the moment. Bama is also a very good team.Macho Grande wrote: ↑Sat Dec 04, 2021 8:12 pm Zags miss Tommy Lloyd. Just lost to Alabama, and were losing by as many as 18 at one point.

I kind of feel like our pre-season just ended and our real games are about to begin.
We are ready.
We are ready.
Re: The 2021-2022 Season Thread
I appreciate the optimism but in reality we just beat a 1-7 team that showed us that we have a way to go both in the beginning of the game and rebounding. If Kerr gets in foul trouble (think Campbell and Boogie) we might look a lot different. What I am very happy about is we do have a good offense if we are slowed down and just not a fast break team.Beachcat97 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 05, 2021 10:53 pm This team even gets lopsided road victories.

Re: The 2021-2022 Season Thread
You know what the scary part is. The Cats aren't even playing close to their potential. Still too many turnovers and missed 3s. Yet, they are blowing teams out of the gym. 2 reasons why. One is they play intense and relentless basketball on both ends of the court for 40 minutes. Not many teams can match that. The second reason is the incredible unselfish play. They lead the nation in assists/game and don't take many bad shots. They are cerebral and may be the highest IQ team Arizona has ever had.Alieberman wrote: ↑Mon Dec 06, 2021 6:54 am I kind of feel like our pre-season just ended and our real games are about to begin.

If the Cats continue to improve at the pace they are playing, and luck is on our side (for once), this team can play anyone in the country and have a chance at cutting down the nets in April. There are 3 teams who match up well with the Cats and hope not to see any of them until the FF. They are Purdue, Baylor, and Villanova.

Re: The 2021-2022 Season Thread
100%, TC...but man, am I the only one who remembers all the close wins (or even losses) to bad Pac teams in the Miller era? There were so many games against teams like OSU and WSU and Cal where we were probably 10 point favorites, and it ended up being a one possession game late in the second half. It's so bloody nice to go on the road and just take care of freaking business.TheCat wrote: ↑Mon Dec 06, 2021 8:00 amI appreciate the optimism but in reality we just beat a 1-7 team that showed us that we have a way to go both in the beginning of the game and rebounding. We drilled them in Corvallis last year too. Oregon State had the tourney run and has just been bad otherwise.TheCat wrote: ↑Mon Dec 06, 2021 8:00 amI appreciate the optimism but in reality we just beat a 1-7 team that showed us that we have a way to go both in the beginning of the game and rebounding. I mean, it's good we beat a bad team like you want to beat a bad team. The only other option is to be unpleasantly close or lose. But I do agree with the sentiment that this is just sort of performing to expected and not the game to get fired up over.
There's still a lot of room to be excited over our potential...just OSU is bad.

Re: The 2021-2022 Season Thread
I'd say that was around a B performance - too many sloppy plays. bad turnovers, missed free throws - but still took care of business so that it wasn't even close down the stretch.
That is fine against 1-7 teams and also considering this was our first true road game. While the next stretch of games against better quality opponents will be telling, we also know when we really want to be peaking. And it ain't in December.
I'm just going to sit back and enjoy watching this team and dream a little...

Arizona is one of only a dozen undefeated teams left, correct? And they play one of the undefeateds next, correct?
And the board is nitpicking about “slow starts” and “potential foul trouble” correct?

You are right, we should be talking about more serious topics.
We should be talking about how much better Benn has been playing since he lost the headband and how unstoppable we will be once Kerr loses his.

We are now a 3 seed in the latest Tournament projections. Went from no tourney to a 3 seed. USC is also a three seed and UCLA a 2. Also saw one of the weekly basketball shows and the guy had Az. as a final four team. Pretty meteoric rise.

Re: The 2021-2022 Season Thread
Oregon State is 1-7. There isn't much else to do but extrapolate our performance against them to good teams like Wyoming, Illinois, Tenn, UCLA and USC, who are 5 of our next 7 games.
Nitpicking against bad teams is commenting on what gets you beat by good teams if it continues.
