Well the good news is that this takes the pressure of going into the NCAA’s with an undefeated record off their backs…

Haha. The Tennessee player even tried to foul at the end and they didn’t call it.
That was pretty bad.

They literally tried to intentionally foul at the end and didn’t call it. This is great

I’d much rather have a game like this in December. I am wholly unbothered by this loss. I thought we played tough. Scoring 50 points in a half against the 7th best defense in the country goes a long way in my book.Spaceman Spiff wrote: ↑Wed Dec 22, 2021 7:18 pmWe competed, but look, if we repeat this amount of mental errors vs any good team, we're done.
That's what worries me. This isn't much different from a potential Round of 32 or Sweet 16 matchup and we just didn't come prepared or play smart enough to win.
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

As bad as that was, at least we lost to a ranked team. Tennessee wouldn’t scare me later on. We had a bad first half and a mediocre 2nd and still hung. The whole undefeated thing probably went to some guys heads, and now the pressure is off and they can see there is work to be done

What I hate is that we got outhustled. Yeah the refs were atrocious but the effort over 40 minutes was sub-par.

On the Kerr tech - he clapped his hands, said let’s go, clapped again and smiled at the ref. Nothing else. They showed a replay and it was very clear.
Don’t blame Kerr.
Refs probably from Vegas.

Well let's go to LA hopping mad and win the next two on the road, and then let's beat the gerbils after that
Arizona State might have the most surprisingly anemic history in men's basketball of any program that you might think is better than it is.

It's the same criticism with all Gonzaga teams. When they face teams that are emotionally and physically locked in on defense, they play timid. This team is different though, Tommy is as hungry as they come.EastCoastCat wrote: ↑Wed Dec 22, 2021 7:26 pm What I hate is that we got outhustled. That’s assuming we get to play either team next week. Both on Covid pause now, unless something has changed recently.

Eh, see my post on the regular board. The sky isn't falling and we can learn and improve. What we can't do is repeat this.Chicat wrote: ↑Wed Dec 22, 2021 7:21 pmI’d much rather have a game like this in December. I am wholly unbothered by this loss. I thought we played tough. Playing a really low IQ game isn't a reason to jump out the window, but it's hard not to be bothered by playing really dumb.

We did play dumb at times but mostly flustered I thought.
Plus when was the last time we got three guys fouled out in regulation.

Great game to lose. In a hostel arena to a ranked team with all 8 of our players saying go themselves “if I only made that one play we would have won”.

Loss is a loss, there are no moral victories at this level. If Zu and C-Lo came to play it would have been different.

Look at what it takes to beat this team.

Re: (M) Game 12, Arizona at Tennessee (2021-2022)
It's hard to imagine a game of more fulsome adversity, unless physical injury were to be included, and still we tied it up toward the end. It can't be said we ever fixed our self-inflicted problems: it seemed like we kept blowing it all along, so the preponderance of adversity never shifted within the many categories of suck. It was an all-around box score stuffing of suck, except for Benn Mathurin.
The thing about refs that every bitching fan knows in his heart: even if we had fixed our self-harm, those hyenas would have been there picking at the carcass.
